Because he was inconsistent, and for all his highlights he made just as many errors trying the spectacular instead of basic. If you compare him to Ronaldinho he took more risks, had poorer decision making and was much much less effective with his output. An the guy was pretty useless without the ball so to get the most out of him you had to compensate in other areas of the team, and why do that as a big club when you can sign players who will be more consistent, smart and hard working and have a similar output? Because he was inconsistent, and for all his highlights he made just as many errors trying the spectacular instead of basic. If you compare him to Ronaldinho he took more risks, had poorer decision making and was much much less effective with his output. An the guy was pretty useless without the ball so to get the most out of him you had to compensate in other areas of the team, and why do that as a big club when you can sign players who will be more consistent, smart and hard working and have a similar output? For a club like Bolton with a hard physical identity outside of okocha, players to cover him and not much creativity, that is fine. For a big club that can get players as good as okocha that do more then no
