    Many decades ago we spent a week in Paris. My husband went to work every day and I walked everywhere until my feet complained and I got a taxi back to the hotel. I bought lovely silk for my wedding dress near Sacre Coeur.

    Still have fabrics that I purchased in Paris back in the 1990s. Tissus Dam was my favorite, very high end and expensive. Doesn't exist anymore.
    This is a great tour, thank you.

    Just found your video and I'm so glad I did, as my husband and I will be heading to Paris for a month in September and never thought of buying fabric and now I will. The timing is perfect as I just found a fabulous seamstress where I live. Can't wait to go fabric shopping in Paris and thank you for making this video - so informative!

    Great info on fabric shopping in Paris--my favorite place to find really unique pieces. I wanted to mention a couple of places that are a bit pricier--both in the Montmarte area near Sacre Coeur, as well. My fabric budget is tight, but these two are lovely for just picking up a super special trim or sewing notion. The first is Frou Frou--right around the corner from Tissu Reine--cutest place!! Lots of quilting fabric as well, thousands of buttons in those fun plastic tubes, and gorgeous knitting supplies, too. The other is Mokuba--a japanese trim shop---walking in the door literally takes my breath away! The minimalist way that the ribbons and trims are arranged on clear walls of rods is just beautiful!

      Thank you for sharing these shops too! I didn't know about the Japanese trim shop and it sounds very intriguing, I'll have to check it out!

    Thank you for your lovely video. It was really interesting to follow you through the various establishments, and learn all about them. In our Country, we have a wonderful textile supplier called "Waste Centre", and they colour code all their textiles, making it very enjoyable to visit them. because visually it's really beautiful to see each colour and it's various shades and tones, whether printed with patterns or plain. They do also present them in categories of kind of textile, for example upholstery is separate from curtaining etc. Wishing you many hours of joy and success.

    Love the fabrics you purchased; especially the silk -- one thing I've learned is if you see something you later think about, you should get it; you won't regret it! Also loved the clothes you made that you modeled. You are a real seamstress and that's a talent.

    Thank you so much Sarah Naomi for mentioning the BRENÉ top 🫶 ! I love all the places you mentioned and didn't about Tissus de rêve !
    I like to go to TissuMarket but it can be a bit more expensive (18 Rue du Sentier, Paris 8).
    I would also add the "Modes et Travaux" shop. I believe this is the same as Coupons-Saint-Pierre but the location is different (10 Rue de la Pépinière, 75008 Paris) and they also sell patterns. Have a beautiful day 🌞 !

    I live in the South of France and we dint have many fabric shops in my area, and now that Toto is closing its even harder! I go to 2 good shops when I go to Toulouse but Paris is the best, wish I could get there more often! I love Reine and Marché St Pierre and there is a fab tiny haberdashery store near Marché St Pierre. I also go to Tissus Laīk which is on a tiny street, my friend Pascale has a fab range of Indian printed cottons, many ither cotton fabrics I use for the products I make for my shop plus loads of upholstery fabrics and gorgeous cushions and quilts.

    Wonderful guide, thank you. Makes me want to visit these shops (I live nearby). For non-Europe/UK people, it's probably worth making clear that the ground floor of a building here in France is called rez-de-chaussée (RDC). The 1st floor (premier étage) is one storey up (not the ground floor level). I hope that helps :)

I didn’t think there were real bargains anymore, to be honest. But of course I did buy something 😊. My tip for you is Mahlia Kent. I visited her store for the first time and came home with two beautiful fabrics. I didn’t buy of the bolt, just from the remnants, because her fabrics are expensive. But also unique. Real treasures. Greetings from Amsterdam.

    Funnily enough, the first thing I noticed when clicking on the video was, how typically 'French' you look.
    I would have never guessed, you're from the USA, originally. The striped, boat neck top, minimalist jewelry and natural makeup/hairdo are all so classically French. Or what the internet likes to present to us as 'typically French', haha.
    But anyways, I envy you the shopping opportunities! We're down to one proper fabric store, here in Cologne, Germany. Plus another one that mostly specializes in home decor fabrics and a small corner in a department store. With the most boring selection of fabric you could imagine - it's like they don't even try.
    I'm the kind of person who gets inspired to sew by seeing (and buying) beautiful fabrics, I don't really enjoy ordering online.

      I used to live in Berlin and Karstadt Hermannplatz had a really nice fabric department as well! But the one here in Cologne is just sad.
      They have some nice quilting fabrics, but they're like 18€/m for 1,10 width fabric, so I don't even look at them. And the rest of the selection just completely lacks any 'showstoppers'. I feel like they would do better specializing in some kind of defined clientele. Like predominantly offering special occasion fabrics. Lingerie making. Whatever. Something to draw people there. Doesn't help, that they're all the way up on the fourth floor and the staff is completely disinterested.

    • @Sarah_Naomi
      @Sarah_Naomi  26 днів тому +1

      I get that often, it's funny you saw that too! It's one of the (smaller) first things that had me thinking I should stay here when I first came over for my studies - the more natural (compared to the US) makeup and hairstyles just correspond to my personal preferences better (not that there's anything wrong with wearing makeup or hair differently)!
      I'm sorry to hear that you're down to one good fabric store for sewing clothes, eek! I hope it survives and multiplies!

    That was so interesting. I live a couple of hours away from Paris so rarely get to buy fabric in person. However I do use Coupons de St Pierre and Tissus de Reve. I have got some really lovely stuff from Coupons de St Pierre but I think you have to be very careful as they sell a lot of polyester or polyester blends and they don't always list what is in a blend. Nevertheless I still keep up to date with what is new there and jump on it if something lovely comes up. For instance I once got a gorgeous linen jersey fabric at a very low price, so it is just a case of keeping an eye on their site.

    I live in the tropics where the temperature is mostly warm. I only like natural fabrics with no blends. Basically cotton and linens and sometimes silks for evening. I love pique because it does not crease much and always looks elegant and cool. I have travelled a lot but now at my age it is not that easy. I want access to online fabric shopping. I am not familiar with that method of shopping but i can learn. Please send me information on this.

Neither are the best for either price or quality. I looked at a couple of your recommended online sites for the shops you listed. It didn't look as if they ship to the US. I’m glad you liked it, thank you! No, I don’t really keep up with sewing magazines and pattern collections, I almost always buy and sew individual indie patterns because I find the sizing and instructions to be easier to work with. How about you?

      @@Sarah_Naomi I buy magazines and Patrones as well as its French version Couture Actuelle are my favorite. They are a perfect fit. I don’t speak Spanish and have a bare minimum knowledge of French but I find their patterns easy and very doable. I wonder if you tried any French pattern brands? Do you know which ones are most popular?

    Hi Sarah, can you recommend any shops in Paris that specialise in (or sell a wide range of) quilting fabrics?

    • @Sarah_Naomi
      @Sarah_Naomi  20 днів тому

      Hello, No, I don't quilt (yet!), so I'm not familiar with the quilting fabric shops here. However, I did see a selection of fat quarter bundles at the Marché Saint Pierre shop and they have a wide variety of what I think are quilting cottons, so you'd probably find some nice quilting fabrics there!

    Thank you for this video. I like your boatneck top, and have already purchased the pattern. What type of fabric is your top, and where did you buy the fabric? I plan to order other patterns, the Donovan skirt and cami.

      Hello and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I made the boatneck top out of a slinky viscose jersey from the French fabric shop Mister Tissu a few years ago. I hope that helps and happy sewing!

    Really needed this for my upcoming trip to Paris. Thank you Sarah ❤. It will be my first time in Paris. Where would you recommend I stay where I can easily commute to these locations? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      You’re welcome! Oh, that’s a hard question, there are so many great neighborhoods in Paris, it’s hard to get it wrong! I would avoid any very touristy or busy areas (like big train stations or super-central Paris) and for a great neighborhood with easy access to the shops I mentioned, I would recommend staying in the 11th arrondissement (near Bastille, République and Oberkampf) in the east. I hope that helps!

    Here in Switzerland, fabrics cost a lot more and there are hardly any fabric shops. Wool, sewing thread, buttons and accessories are also enormously more expensive and 40 euros for 3 meters of your favorite fabric would be completely impossible here, it is not offered that cheaply. I think it would have cost three to five times as much. You can dream of such prices. Unfortunately, everything is extremely expensive in Switzerland, and this applies to all areas of life. Buying online is also only possible to a limited extent because Switzerland is not part of the EU and the delivery conditions are not the same.
