I personally think twin-charging a engine is better than a supercharger or twin turbo and if youse do decide to twin-charger the engine mark sure to put a clutch on the supercharger so that it does drag on the engines power at high rpm
Bearing tangs are not there to keep them from spinning. Bearing crush is what holds them in place. The tang is simply to locate the bearing during installation.
Love the Jag 4.2 i6, we had an XJ 4.2 when I was in my teens, what a car. Ours needed paint but otherwise the body was dent/rust free and mechanically she ran like a top. Plenty of grunt and so smooth.
Cool video, enjoyed that!! Nice to see a bit of detail. Bottom end looks very strong, keen to see just how big the Garret is and what it ends up powering
We i used to build big HP engines, i would always select engines that had been sitting outside for years (302 & 351 Clevelands, Intech 6's, Buick V6, 250 Crossflow- Aussie engines). Would go out of my way to buy engines from down south (NSW, Tasmania etc) where it snows; these weathered engines once cleaned & built, never gave an issue as they had been "seasoned", never suffered cracked blocks or heads, never any leaking issues (even with 38psi+ of boost).
Why does Fernie keep advertising Redbull (sponsored athlete style) but they blur out Castrol from Tom? Is it just because the show is sponsored by Liqui-moly?
There will be a clause in their contract with Liqui-Molly that says they won't promote any other suppliers of products they make which will force them to blur things like Castrol
I watched this and should be marvelling over the engine, but all I can think about is how many people watching this know what a chanter is... You should've gone all in with a full set of bagpipes!.. ;-)
The Scottish population Myselef included, will know what the chanter is and from what part of the pipes it’s from but most of the English population wont
Beautiful work! I hope Emma brings in a lot of money for charity. I'm curious though, how much would all that restoration/rebuilt work have cost a normal person coming in off the street?
I have an XJR6, and they are an absolute BUGGER to work on. At least in the car, there is zero access. All the fiddly bits are under the intercooler so you have to access from underneath. But you do get 4.0L, more than your standard Japanese straight 6. And when its working it goes like a train.
Keep that cam cover well hidden or it may be ending up on the AJ16 in my Silk Cut purple XJS race car! Surprised this motor isn't bound for a racer with your ties to Swallows and now working with Tom too, surely you should keep it supercharged, plonk it in an X300 and join the party 🏁🏁🏁
Only thing to say. If use gasket selent. Let coure. One week before starting. If selent is hard. Will never be in the pickup in oil pan. God bless mate. Mick au. ) grand father from there. )
Turn Yuki into a high downforce time attack monster! It would be great to see it do grip driving! And then turn it into a drift car and then turn it into an off-roader I will watch all of it!
I wonder if you could turbo the thing instead of supercharger, like one of those 2JZ Turbochargers. All in All, I think you should put it in something interesting. Like a 350Z, or an E30.
I've got an X300 supercharged lying around. I bought it to put back on the road but now thinking about putting the engine in either my 66 E Type or my 69 420G
Gotta love a shop who's primary electrical system is extension cords tied to socket boxes. Where I live, the nanny state forbids extension cords for this type of use.
It's just beautiful but what should it go in, something crazy like a spitfire to get an absurd power to weight or something more sinister like a Mark II or later sedan?
Exceptional build, as expected. With a valve and plug cover that Jag would be proud of. What instrument is that? bagless bagpipe? Just nit picking really. Keep in mind to not spin a crank unnecessarily and minimally(to check for binding only) before the caps are on. The bearings aren't actually round until the main caps are torqued. The bigger issue is spinning the crank spits the assembly lube out and thus can make for a dry start, unless you prime the oil pump before first start. Crank set in; 1/2 turn in both directions, 1-2; caps on and torqued, 1-2; rods in and torqued, 4; once cam chain is on to check for valve/piston contact. Specifically thick assembly lube is designed like greasy oil that will prevent damage in build testing and the 5-10 seconds before the engine gets oil pressure. It dissolves into the oil which is generally changed at 100km of driving.
If the plan is to take on some of the legendary Japanese engines, why not throw the Jag engine in a Japanese chassis? Plenty of cars out there that would pair well with this engine.
Whack a big ol snail on it, and stuff it in Vauxhall Carlton estate and give it a purple Silk Cut Jag inspired livery. You know it would be good.
We can still tell tom is wearing a castroll logo on his shirt 😂 props for realizing it during filming.
yep 0:35 if it wasn't obvious before
It’s better advertising for Castrol them bluring it. It’s draws our attention to it and we all know what it is. 😂
The funny thing of bluring it is that it draws more attention to it.
I believe it's Castrol.
Castrol is what jlr recommend
Top man Tom what a guy to spend his time and money for a charitable cause that saves lives ❤
I love how they blurred out the Castrol on Tom's jumper, right as he was standing next to an unblurred Castrol container at 3:38

Love the tom lenthall love, boys a diamond in the rough
Put it up against an Aussie Barra 4.0L straight six
that engine is very much like the sohc, the cam drive looks identical lol
