    Brilliant - I've been using Boomr Bags for a while in my monotubs but have never tried fruiting straight from the filter bag. That could be a real space saver for me.

    Hey there! I’m thinking of getting one and wanted to know the recommended ratio of substrate bags to grain bags! Thanks!

    • @NorthSpore
      @NorthSpore  3 роки тому +8

      Hey Isabel! One fully colonized 3lb injection port grain bag can inoculate up to four Boomr Bags. A 6lb pre-colonized grain spawn bag can inoculate up to eight Boomr Bags. That said, the higher the ratio of spawn to manure substrate the faster the colonization and more reliable it will outcompete any mold spores that might make their way into your monotub, bag, or mushroom bed. The cleaner and more sanitized your inoculation space, the more you can stretch your spawn!

    How do you keep slugs off your beds?

    • @NorthSpore
      @NorthSpore  3 роки тому +2

      Mushrooms grow quickly, the trick is getting to them before the slugs find them. Sprinkling diatomaceous earth around the borders of your bed is also an effective organic method.

      @@NorthSpore They eat the pins before they can even get to a size worth harvesting. DE is a good call, but Seattle weather washes everything down and keeps the slugs happy. lol Thanks.

      @@Katarjana most years in Maine we have the same issue, but not during this drought year... Maybe some sort of impermeable shade cloth or tarp with DE and some periodic watering to make sure there is adequate moisture in the bed? At least you get those WA foraging seasons! jealous!

    How long do you think the Boomr bag last safe and pasteurized if left untouched in box at average room temp? I have grain not quite ready to spawn, but I already have my bag.

    • @NorthSpore
      @NorthSpore  3 роки тому +3

      As long as the bag itself isn't compromised at all (punctured, handled correctly) it should remain sterile until you're ready to inoculate for a year or more. If the bag has been compromised, you'll be able to see mycelium or contaminates growing on the substrate. If that is the case, don't use it and we will replace!

    So I want to use this between two different tubs that are colonizing at different speeds, so basically I’m splitting the manure between growth sessions.
    When I use it but not all of it, do I re pasteurize the unused substrate? How do I do that?
    Thank you

    • @NorthSpore
      @NorthSpore  Рік тому

      We don't recommend this. Once a bag is opened, it should be used immediately. Attempting to sterilize again isn't advised. For one thing, the bag will get weaker, but it is possible.

    Question, did you use perlite or vermiculite? A certain species of mushroom most are probably here for which I aim on growing needs a a lot of water. I plan on growing the spawn in a bag and then using a monotub. You seemed to use nothing in the monotub besides the substrate.

    • @NorthSpore
      @NorthSpore  2 роки тому +2

      Hello! Some growers recommend using vermiculite to case monotubs but new research into the connection between vermiculite mining and contamination from asbestos should give pause to this practice. Coco coir works equally as well and is a safe alternative, that is what we use in the video and what we recommend!
