As a political science student I feel like a web series suits better to portray Emergency. Emergency was caused by alot of things taking place in the backdrop and in front. Alot happened during the period and most importantly it change how India viewed poltics afterwards.
One needs to explore Indra Gandhi's entire political career and upbringing prior to Emergency to really understand the situation. What happened during the period require a nuanced approach... How some parts of India were affected more than others, what people went through, media censorship, situation of opposition leaders and internal workings of the party.
yeah netflix will cover those missed out things after 30 years when BJP is ruled out of the system, and demand for documentary on BJP and Modi will start rising

A lot of people who witnessed the Emergency are still alive. It is not some prehistoric saga that is being adapted.
Adapting a true event that is so fresh in memory is a daunting task.
It would require a very strong research work and robust script.
The topic is very promising and I am hoping it delivers. Not only Kangana, but Bollywood too needs to bounce back.
Keeping fingers crossed that it doesn't become a one sided lazy propaganda.

Emergency is a very sensitive topic and a very personal one for many families. Hope we will get to see the reasons, effects and consequences of that action. My grandfather once told me that the period of emergency was like, so much was happening but at the same time nothing was happening. It was the loudest silence.
I hope the treatment is nuanced rather than just vilifying individuals for political clout. I fear the same because we live in such a polarised world!

Think of it as a job, everyone should experiment and try to see how they deliver on their own terms. Especially a woman, in a movie world which barely has scripts celebrating a female character equally if not more. And if you think if finances, yes a good movie will bring money. But if that means staying a side chick with limited screen time, probably that’s a bargain she’s wished to do and kudos for that. Not just Kangana but many PC, Deepika, Vidya Balan, Tapsee have tried starring in movies that is not weighed by the hero they are paired with. Let’s encourage the move.

There is a sect of people who are concerned about storytelling, acting and representation. I personally like and admire women directors, cast and crew. Am not saying everyone should and does watch movies with this motive. Also, yes, if work is good then only it is a good experience watching something online. But am tired of watching a 3 hr movie or a 3 season web series told through the make perspective, and I would like more characters to be explored via a female perspective because women are and will remain an integral part of society. Please keep your hate with yourself, and no where any “woman card” is played, every one has the right to be the central character and get opportunity to be the best version of themselves. Be it a man or woman!! And if I don’t want to see women playing side chicks and item girls, I don’t have to be apologetic about it. Movies need to be made, starred and created on women, celebrating good, bad and gray in them! It doesn’t just limit to lead actor, it pans to direction, script, crew etc too.

Ask any proper tamilian, like me, who grew up when Jayalalithaa Amma was alive and in power, they'll tell you Kangana was absolutely miscast in that role go watch any of her interviews you'll see how completely different she was in real life as compared to what kangana did in the movie.....

There were masterpieces in Bollywood which were disaster on box-office but it doesn't make work of artists inferior. Kangana has set the benchmark which is dream for most of A list actresses in Bollywood.
Just watched the Good Luck Jerry trailer, and IMO Janhvi's dialogue delivery seems the same as that of her other movies.
Kangana is what happens when one's ego gets ahead of one's art.

I'm worried about the treatment. If done well, it can really account for an interesting film. Curiosity will be at its peak if done with earnestness!

Why is it surprising? The movie is likely catered to the general public's sour sentiment regarding Indira Gandhi. A genuine portrayal should suffice to validate said sentiment, but as you said one can only hope it doesn't end up like Accidental Prime Minister

@@TriedRefusedProductions I believe that there must've been something on the script that was controversial about the figure she's portraying and thought that this will be a negative PR for opposition party because considering her political views, after criticizing the party and the main figures for years, suddenly portraying them in a somewhat positive light wouldn't be favorable for her. Hence, she chose the script of most controversial moment of the then Prime Minister.

With kangna, it's the same issue women all over the world face, the moment she becomes a strong personality people go silent and takes a neutral stand, so what if it doesnt convert into a box office number? U cannot deny her exceptional acting chops and delivering such varied content, the kind of movies she is doing, no one in the industry has currently guts to take on. Not everything is about box office, those times have changed.
No...the times haven't changed......when was the last hit movie delivered by Kangana....She portray herself as a strong and independent women but come across more as Narcissistic personality. She has the acting talent but when she tries to be a filmaker and director, she always fell short. Also not to be rude but women oriented movies doesn't translate to money making because fan following is important. That is why Telugu and Kannada movie which are still largely Herocentric are doing extremely well.

Personal thoughts- Though I’m not a fan of Jahnavi Kapoor but I must say that she is quite ambitious and has the drive to do more story driven cinema unlike Sara, Ananya, Tara, Disha who are mostly into playing eye-candy roles.
She has drive but the acting and diction just dont improve. I remember what a massive letdown Gunjan saxena movie was. I had so wished someone more deserving was in the role.

Janhvi is a good dancer, she uses her own voice for characters and she have really beautiful eyes. But the problem is only her eye brow does the acting part. When we talk about improvement of star kids Athiya Shetty is the one who comes to my mind. Her film with irfan was so good.

Actually it's the truth. Jhanvi has lip fillers and face fillers also apparently. They restrict movement of face. Which is why you will never see her able to emote well.

As for Jahnvi Kapoor, there's a lot of room to improve but she's been lucky to get Sairat remake in form of Dhadak n now Coco. That's where the playing field n nepo talks get fuelled.

Dhaakad was "ignored" as it was a bad movie and this movie might be ignored if it is a bad one as well. Instead of blaming people and hero worshipping our heroes i suppose it should be the other way round. Blame your actors and actresses if they perform badly or make bad choices, hold them accountable otherwise they will keep doling out stuff like Dhaakad and touting it is "Hollywood-standard wowww" lol

I really liked Kangana in the little of what i saw of Emergency trailer. Only she can carry this off.
I doubt him now 😂 he said bhool bhulaiya 2 is soo good while he scrutinized dhakad....but but but having watched both of these movies I felt bhool bhulaiya 2 is such a dumb movie with no sense and also didn't like the script except the climax but in the other hand I really enjoyed dhakad even though it's not the best.... atleast it made sence and was shot beautifully with amazingg acting.
After that review of his it really made me think deeper about his reviews!! specially for Kangana 😉
Tabu was the saving grace and it is good just for what she brought to the movie. Hindi remake and sequel has butchered the original malaylam to a point that it went from psychological drama to horror comedy.

No doubt Bhool Bhulaiya part 1 is wayy more amazing then this one....but comparing Bhool Bhulaiya 2 with Dhakad is soo stupid! I must say wayyyyyyy better than bhool bhulaiya 2!

Dhaakad was fun movie...just that the promise was much grander...it promised a good action movie and it indeed was.
There are always two approaches to playing a role based on a real life person
Either you can imbibe the spirit of that person without mimicking the body language or vocal tone(Farhan Akhtar as Milkha Singh, Sushant in MSD)
Or
You may do the both, imbibe the spirit and emulate physical or vocal attributes. (Emma Corrin as Princess Diana in Crown)
Both approaches are great.
Anupam Kher imitation of PM Manmohan was a case when he didn't channel the internal dilemma former PM must have faced
Minus her tantrums and her personal life, she is no doubt a brilliant actor,and if the movie is made unbiased, it sure has all the elements of being a cinematic experience, cause no matter what your ideology is,indira ghandhi was a larger then life persona

I wish Kangana would at least ACT in less narcissistic roles, even if she does the otherwise in real life! This topic should have had a better actor who would not caricaturise the complicated leader like Indira ji. An actress who is so deeply influenced by her political stance that even her Instagram stories are in praise of the ruling party, will deliver an influenced performance only. She really needs to work with better people but dont know if better people would prefer to work with her (Hansal Mehtas recent interview comes to mind).

Whoever has played Indira Gandhi before has only and ONLY focused on getting the look right. So I disagree with you completely here. Kangana has worked on the nuances and mannerisms of the person she’s playing which is important for a biography. Without making it a cheap copy (something that Vance counted on as she is directing, acting and the story is also written by her). She is a powerhouse coz there’s no actress today who’s pushing the envelope in Bollywood in terms of what she’s doing.

Don't agree with Lara Dutta part in Bell Bottom. No one was expecting her in the movie. And the movie was not about her anyways.
Meryl Streep played Thatcher and had to adopt her body language. She also did the same for Julia Child character in movie Julie & Julia. If Kangana doesn't adopt the body language it will not be Indira Gandhi but just another lady.
Don't agree with the comparison with movies on Modi and Manmohan. Vivek Oberoi is literally jobless. Anupam Kher does any OK roles offered to him. However, Kangana does a lot of studying of her characters and she has written the story for this one. It's her money on the line and she's going to give it a lot of time as it's her Full directorial debut under her home production.
She also has Respect for Indira Gandhi's greatness. However even Dumbledore called Voldemort Great. This might be a Daenerys Stormborn power hungry role which will divide the audiences.

I like Kangana as an actress (not at all as a person), Her look was amazing in the teaser but the acting felt like a weird mimicry, especially in the last bit of the trailer, she was going extra with the face twitches.

I'm shocked to see the kind of transformation n voice modulation kangana did for madam Indira gandhi's character truly truly marvelous n great skill we can expect only for goddess of acting queen kangana only. Emergency is going to be a great risk for kangana. Looking at her personal life and views this film will have a very polarised audience. I am in the middle so i really hope her acting and the storyline is nuanced

Kangana is no doubt one of the most talented actresses ever had in bollywood, keeping her politics and personal views aside, but her look of Indira Ji somewhat falls flat if you compare it with that of how lara dutta performed in bell bottom....may be she will surprise in the actual film or even in the trailer, let's hope for the best!

This film looks more like a personal venture for kangana. The way her real life motivations have overshadowed her acting journey, if she's trying to spread an opinion through this movie rather than telling the complex story of emergency, I think it will be the final nail in the coffin for her career. Plus, whenever there's a movie on such a sensitive topic, especially one that has many opinions, conspiracy theories and doubt surrounding it, i think the right way to tell the story is to not take sides and not lean towards any particular theory. I mean show what we know for a fact, but let the ambiguous things remain ambiguous.

I personally found Jerry's trailer to be entertaining and engaging and promising a good effort from Jahnvi , she has shown a lot of improvement from Dhadak , with each of her films she is just improving , she is not doing films just for the sake of being relevant or consistent but actually choosing roles out of her comfort zone to improve her skills. Her effort is genuine and its time that people dont diss her just because of her privilege , according to me amongst the many of the starkids she seems to be the one who is willing to take risks and hone her talent! I agree with you completely. Kangana has successfully isolated herself and building her image around controversy has done nothing for her professional career. The fact that she is writing, directing and producing this film only makes me skeptical because if manikarnika is anything to go by, Kangana will not be able to resist writing herself into every single scene of the film. She can not be an island. As for Janhvi, I think she still has a lot to offer, she's still growing, I liked the trailer though
