He's using slip angle which is used casually in tracks. Slip angle is how your tire is squeezed to the point where it slips, and grip at the same time which allow you to not oversteer in a sharp corner even if you enter it fast.

Nah. At this point in the story Takumi is very much familiar with the Impreza. It is the new technique he's trying to learn because of which he seems more concentrated and not casual.

Perfect promotion for the Impreza with Takumi behind the wheel - who doesn't want one immediately after seeing this? :-) But to be honest: I think Takumi as driver can perform far better with MR-cars like the Stratos, 037 or Cayman. He seems to be quiet the perfectionist like Röhrl (who always says that for him the 037 was the best rally car and the quattro in comparison wasn't that sharp). AWD allows better control, more traction and good drivers are nearly unbeatble on them, but RWD-masters could outperform them - they don't need the additional weight and 'help' :-D

Pikes Peak has become a totally different track with the paving. Don't get me wrong: I think that the best rally cars had and have AWD, but that's it - rally with fixed rules. Hillclimb? - Just have a look at the Judd monsters from Plasa or Meisel-Motorsport. Circuits? - NO AWD supercar or modern day Audi RS holds any track record - too heavy, too tricky at the limit (true: average drivers could get closer to the limit with AWD, but pros who are used to the limit like to have a predictable car and most AWDs tend to quickly change between oversteer and understeer; RWDs on the other hand are mostly predictable with training). Quarter mile? - I can't wait to see the first AWD top fuel dragsters! But as said - that's only my point of view and I'm aware about the power of 'old' Audi quattro (IMSA GTO and Trans Am) or the Skyline Group A or even Bugatti EB110 :-)

Takumi did get lucky in a few races if you think about it. Also, he was too stubborn back then about 86 not capable of being better than the Impreza.
