Regarding “everything”, I have an H4 recorder. I recorded daily life, such as conversations in the car when my son was young. I thought that I had sleep apnea. I recorded the audio of my breathing overnight, for several days. Loaded the file into my audio DAW software. I could see that I breathe normally throughout the night. Definitely “everything”.
Perfect! I always liked the F3, but the lack of 3.5 mm input for my wireless lav set held me back. This one has all the features I need for small productions.
This is going to be a best selling recorder for Zoom. However, I'm wondering why there're no real reviews even after it has been launched. Other than BH, and of course Zoom's own launching videos, we can't find any reviews from creators.
32-bit sounds great; not setting volume is the holy land. But when you record near the noise floor and add gain, you increase the noise floor as well. Why not have a volume control as well? You don't have to be too precise; just set it well enough not to get a noisy recording! (I really dislike the design of the new zoom line, but that is not important)
I’m glad to learn about this before ordering the H1 essential. This is much more useful. Odd that it’s $50 more expensive though. You’d think that including microphones in the H1 essential might cost more than a couple of XLR connectors.
@@Ozpeter That's can't be the reason, should be the same a/d converters. H1 essential doesn't have xlr inputs, don't think of this as 50 more than h1, think of it as 50 less than h4, for that 50 you are trading in the built in mics.
@@CameraNewsDeals H1essential and H4essential specs quote higher self noise preamps than the H1 XLR - not by much but it would appear that the preamp is not the same.
It looks like a good all rounder device capable of providing adequate results in multiple scenarios. Really the name says it all. I suspect it will sell like hot cakes!
I'm really interested in this form factor, and ability to record via IOS which could be helpful for certain shoots. Timecode would have made it perfect, but seems synching via waveform will be needed. I also am thinking I can plug my CMIT shotgun directly into this and attach lyre to the H1's 1/4 20 thread, and maybe even a boom pole if its on a C-stand.
Interesting for some people I'm sure. Especially at that price point of around 150-160 bucks, but not for me. I love my F3 too much and also have a H1n, H1e, and H6. Interesting unit all the same, even though it has that typical odd Zoom design.
I just checked the specifications on Zoom Corp. It has a noise level of -122 dB. With the preamps creating that much noise, I would never even consider this for any content creation.
😂 The H series XLRs have been stuck at -120dbu for like 10 years, they just refuse to upgrade (an extra -2dbu doesn't count). The H series is just entry level gear for music creators. At least the F3 and F6 exist..
This has almost the same EIN as the old series zoom H4 H5 and H6 witch is unfortunate because that is considered noisy, i wish this has the F3 preamps otherwise this is the most convenient of them all with COMBO jacks and 3.5 mic/line level Input and 32 bit of course
I am a content creator, but I am not a professional one. Which option is better? F3 or H1 XLR? I will use it for interviews, podcasts, streamings... Greetings from Spain.
The new Zoom H1XLR Portable Audio Recorder for Video does not support X/Y, mid-side recording. Great suggestion - perhaps in a future firmware update. >Mark
@@BandH Please pass it on to Zoom if you can! I realise that I could actually record an MS pair using this recorder, but without a playback / monitoring matrix it would sound rather odd until I processed it in a DAW. Many years ago I actually got the guy at Naiant to build me an MS monitoring headphone amp - but it's one more thing to carry, and right now I'm not sure where I put it!
Interesting new products, but Zoom need to start including rechargeable batteries to their new models, those AA batteries are not practical even with the rechargeable options. And they need to release a model like the Tascam, with a multi-interface hot shoe for direct sound recording in 4 channels straight to the camera. That WITH the additional micro SD file would be great
I actually really like the inclusion of easy to obtain replaceable AA batteries. You can just swap them out for instant charge, not have to continually plug in to the USB-C to keep it charged, or wait while it charges. AA rechargeable batteries are great, and the recorder accepts all available AA types: Alkaline, Lithium, or NiMH
@@wmwragg I have rechargeable AA batteries for my Zoom H6, they lose life span quite easily, that’s why I would personally prefer a specific battery for Zoom products. I imagine getting a couple of those wishful batteries (like doing with a camera) could be more convenient for long recording hours. Just my opinion. Thanks for sharing yours.
I suspect far more people record audio for video without timecode - sure, the bigger budget videographers do but they will already be using bigger budget recorders.
@@Ozpeter Not necessarily true. You can use an adapter, even if the use for which it was designed is that with the use of XLR cables
