- TLDR: I am not a hairdresser, just a diy-er. This was my process documented inspired by other youtube tutorials.
Part 2 of this whole process when I realized it wasn’t light enough: • Part II: Brunette to B...
After watching some UA-cam channels especially my favorite, Brad Mondo, I feel empowered to go blonde and do it all by myself at home.

Process: made a root bowl (R) & midlength/end bowl (ML) for each section. I started with the root and then applied the mid-length. In hindsight, I’d start with the mid length and then go back to the roots/ends at the end of the back 3 sections and at the end up the front 3 sections? Not sure.
1:2 ratios used
Section:#1-3 back sections:
(R), 80 grams bleach, 160 grams 7 vol plus a few drops of STB
(ML) 80 grams bleach, 160 grams 20 vol plus ph plex #1
Section #5 front middle:
(R) 40 grams bleach, 30 grams 7 vol and 50 grams of 20 vol plus a few drops of STB
(ML) 40 grams bleach, 80 grams of 20 vol and ph plex #1
Section #4 & 6 front sides:
(R) 50 grams bleach, 100 grams 20 vol plus a few drops of STB
(ML) 50 grams bleach, 50 grams 20 vol, 50 grams 30 vol and phplex#1
Toner Process: I applied the toner first to my roots and hairline, horizontal, then in vertical bands on front sides. Let it sit , then pulled the toner through mid-lengths and ends, keeping it on for a total of 30 minutes.
Toner Mixture: 1.5 oz 7A + 1.5 oz. 10A and 1oz of 8N and 8oz activating lotion: - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
The fact that you did a strand test puts you ahead of most people who bleach hair (stylists included). Your application time wasn't that bad either considering the length of your hair. A platinum card(full bead foils) can take hours and we'll just wash some sections out sooner.
Don't feel bad about the roots either because not only do they process faster from your scalp's heat, but also because the hair hasn't fully keratinized/hardened.
and extensions rarely lift much because 9/10 they're pre dyed with very strong pigments that won't bleach out completely.
The result looks good. The roots arent too bad and the color is really pretty and looks great on you.
Thank you! I really tried to thoroughly research before just buying bleach and slapping it on my head. Thanks for answering my question about the timing of it too. It seemed like my hair could handle it and starting with a lower developer in the back and increasing the strength as I moved to the front worked well. Im happy with results, i just touched up my roots yesterday and I ended up stopping before I reached the most visible part and will do that part today, so I can take my time and also touch up any spots I missed.
This was by far the most relaxed and calm hair bleaching video I have ever seen. No drama. Well researched. Good end product.
That’s so funny! Im a relaxed person 😊
And thank youu Sarah
our research, technique and observations are so adept - Im so grateful for the comprehensive detail. I love dying my own hair and like you, usually spend more on quality products & aftercare, than I would appointment with professional colour technician.. go figure! It’s just so much fun!
I think your hair looks stunning in the final video!
Thank you and Yes- with my virgin hair, I was a drugstore shampoo and condition girl! I put zero products in my hair. When I would go to the salon, I never left feeling super satisfied about the money I spent. I hated the curling of my hair and over the top styling to the inches that were removed. I cannot even tell you how many times I would come home from an appointment and head straight to my shower and wash my style out! Now I’m obsessed with the products. I see what a difference they make. This has been my creative outlet lately and I am so proud to tell people who are shocked to see me blonde that I did it myself:)))
Blonde looks amazing on you 😍😍

@@KMMAatHome Awww tell me about it it’s taken me over a 6 weeks to go from black to blonde in total I’ve used 8 colour removers 6 blonde box lighters with onega plex added in a couple of blonde colours and one semi permanent colour aswell also I’ve used the fanola orange shampoo and provoke purple shampoos and conditioner also blue and purple hair mask it’s now a golden blonde and my hairs still there 😊😊😊
You look so good as a blonde
Thank you!
You were so prepared. But lol the kiddie comb
Haha , I’ve come a long way..
Best to just use warm water and a little baking soda. Then use a miracle oil to condition through the week. Repeat the earm water wash but each week do the baking soda. Your hair gets weighty again. But brush every night thoroughly to get natural oils down the shaft.
With your skin tone and eye color brunette is for you, perhaps some copper highlights
The Barbie brush 😂😂😂😂. I purchased the same Blondme products and it only cost me just over $100 and that included Toner ... and I got it from a hairdresser supply - I’m in Australia.
Lol It was the only “wide tooth” comb I could find at the time. She was so mad when she saw the video🤣. And yes -same, about $50 for blondeme bleach w developer and toners about another 10-15 including their respective developers. I definitely just purchased more than what I needed because i had no previous hair equipment (hence the barbie brush) and I also just wanted to be overly prepared. I bought the different developer strengths too because this was the first time I was working with lightener. I also realized later when I bought a scale to properly measure product that I was using way too much lightener and could have stretched those canisters a lot more- I think I went through almost the whole 16 oz in this video!
It looks incredible ❤️🌹🌈
Thank you ☺️
How long do you recommend leaving bleach on? Mine always ends up so brassy even after 45.
Oh gosh I dont know!. The timing is confusing.. i just constantly check my first pieces .. making sure they dont feel stretchy. I then just watch for that pale yellow (inside of banana peel color). Im also willing to rinse off early and do another session if it is questionable! Wish I had a better answer:)
Depends on your base, hers is not too dark. If you're dark it may take two rounds of bleach to get to a level 8 or 9. It will always be brassy or yellowy that's why toner exists. It's just the natural pigments on your hair
Bleach your hair twice, just make sure you don’t use 40 volume developer
Yes low and slow will lead to less damaging ( low volume/ leaving on longer/ doing more than 1 session)
Sections sections sections!!! 👳🏼♂️
Sections are everything- wish i was better at doing them!
Blond is not suited for her skin coloring. Doesn't let her eyes pop, dulls her complexion. As a colorist i would not have recommended this choice.
Am I a ding dang ding bat?!? What’s STB? 🤷♀️🤓
Edit: whoops I guess I should’ve watched the video just a bit longer! My bad! 😳🤦♀️☺️
It works so good!
Would've been cheaper and more successful to go to the hairdressers. After buying all the product. That's what I'm starting to think from all these vids. Good outcome though.
Yes perhaps! Its not even the initial bleach thats hard / problem.: its the upkeep.. the roots were tricky to do and once you have different sessions, you will have different processing (hard to avoid as an amateur) and then run into color corrections- which is difficult to fix. Lessons learned but I haven’t completely regretted it yet!
@@KMMAatHome So frustrating. As going to the hairdressers gets expensive too. My daughter dyes her hair and she's natural light ash blond, the color others want..and dyes it black or pink!! Then cuts it...so I bought her wigs in pink, black and streaky golden brown. She's 22, she wore them a couple of times.
I think I'll do a few of streaks mixing the 7 and 9. Then theres no regrowth. Thank you for your reply. I hope we find solutions soon or a good hairdresser lol. 👍
Hahaha oh man! Wigs are an excellent alternative! 🤣
