It was finally time for my first root touch up since bleaching my brunette hair and I think I had all these wild high hope ideas going into it…
Before I go any further, I do want to take a moment to thank everyone for their helpful feedback on my previous videos. I am really grateful for this very kind and supportive community that exists here on youtube. Definitely makes it stand out from any other social media platforms that I have been apart of. I welcome and appreciate all comments/suggestions. I am not a hairdresser, but learning as I go so your expertise is trusted.
    Ok so my plan was:
    1. Bleach the roots in the back of my head and lift to the lightest yellow. I use 7 volume bleach because my hair lifts very quickly. As dark as it is most people would recommend using a 30 volume but I am going off my original strand test in my first video and 7 volume works on my fine hair.
    2. I foiled slices of hair on the front sides (temples) since they were last and wanted them to heat up a bit and process so everything could be washed out at the same time.
    3. Took the small amount of bleach leftover ( which had also been developing for a bit of time, added in water & shampoo to make a very weak bleach bath mixture which I applied through the rest of my hair before rinsing.
    4. I made a decision to do the top mohawk section in a different bleaching session because I wanted to stop the other areas and take my time doing the most noticeable part on my head. (Joke’s on me)
    5. The next day, I worked on this new section, but only after I touched up any warm/dark pieces that needed it. I started in the front of the mohawk with some thin slicing and foils, leaving some thin sections between each. I worked my way front to back. It seemed easier to pull the foils forward as I worked. I hoped that this would create some light pieces breaking up the grown in root.
    6. When I rinsed it out , it was a disaster, orange, pale yellow , brunette all in the same area.
    7. I immediately went in with more bleach and went over this whole area again.
    8. Then I worked on a darker root shadow and tones the ends with level 9/10 mixture ( cant remember what exact tones i used) it looked
okay at first, but the next morning with different lighting my roots were orange.
    9. The next day, I went in with 8T (.34oz) and 7N (.25 oz) on the roots in diagonal vertical bands starting in front and working towards the back pulling the hair forward trying to blend the root color as much as possible.
    10. I, then, toned the mid-length to the ends with 10vv and 9GI, 10n. Left it on for 20 minutes, rinsed and styled. Hair was definitely compromised a bit.

Hey there! Finally I found someone with highlighted hair doing the root touch up lol!
My natural hair is ashy medium brown, about a level 5 and I have all-over blonde highlights.
Can't really tell from the video but what level is your natural hair? Because I also have bought the Schwarzkopf blondme products and I'm not sure whether to go for the 7 vol or 20vol on the roots. Will be using the +9 lightener as well!
Your description says you used 7 vol, so that's why I ask what level your roots are.
I'm actually brave enough to try this myself, watched a lot of tutorials, but I'm still worried about the bleach overlapping the previously highlighted hair. Do you think it will cause huge breakage when using 20 vol?
Oh and I like the idea of doing a bleach bath with 7 vol, never thought of this, but my hair is super brassy. I think I wil try this!

Hi! My natural hair is probably like a 5 or 6 depending on time of year.
As far as the what volume you should use I highly recommend doing a strand test from a piece in the back to see. You can also mix the two developers if you want something in between and when i first did my own hair i used a 7 volume when i started and then moved up to 20-30 volume as I got to the front so it would all be done around the same time.
But def do a strand test to see how long it takes your hair to get to a pale yellow! Good luck

LOL! Ended up with the exact same hair that you began with except it's darker, you have more roots and now it's more damaged! I would say next time go to a salon.

This was so baffling to watch lmao, I have no idea what she was trying to do here and she ended up with the same thing she had at the start but slightly worse! 😩

This was so fun to watch! I had a similar issue with the orange on top the first time I did mine. Today my orange is just in spots due to the bleeding foils. I’ll figure out how to do it right one of these times! LOL I found your videos while researching the best way to fix it…so tomorrow I’ll be in the bathroom all day. Until then, I am getting a lot of use out of my hats! I laughed at your collection of toners, as my collection looks like yours. I’ve spent so much on this whole “doing my own hair” process, but eventually I’ll know exactly what works right & not have to buy as much stuff. It’s all such an experiment, but it’s fun!

Haha I hate the orange, it’s still in my hair where the toner has faded off! Good luck with your bayalage !! Will be nice for fall :)

You must have spent so much on products and equipment that surely getting it done professionally would have been cheaper, right?

No, because to go from brunette to what my hair is would have been at least $8-1000 IF I could even find a hairdresser that would actually do it. I probably spent around 250$ or so which is one less than one color service. I also have never been satisfied with any hairdresser so I stopped going to salons 3 yrs ago. I am adamant about learning this myself and part of the learning process is mistakes. This was a few months ago and I am super happy with how my hair is now. Its exactly what I wanted.

Nice! Well done! The root touch up is so difficult. I‘ve been through it all myself. Started bleaching my hair by myself during pandemic and it looked fab for many months. But the maintenance was getting too difficult and finally I didn’t want to be platinum all over anymore and went to the hairdresser to get highlights again. But sometimes I miss my bright cool blond shade. 😊

…and one of my attempts led to breakage because I overlapped the bleached parts too much with my virgin hair. Looking like a birdy on the top of my head. 🙈

    • @KMMAatHome
      @KMMAatHome  2 роки тому

Yes, so I am not currently working while figuring this out. I’ll be curious when I go back to work how much I will be able to keep up with! The blonde is definitely more fun, especially because I love how colored summer clothes looks with it!
The root touchup is definitely very challenging because if you dye your whole head blonde and it’s not light enough you can just re-bleach the whole thing it’s kind of hard to keep doing that on a root with the previously lightened hair without overlapping!
      !

That’s funny about the little bird hairs.. that happened to me too and I just pluck them out when I see them which is probably the entirely wrong thing to be doing
