THAT IS BECAUSE IT IS NOT PROPERLY TAUGHT IN SCHOOL, IMHO. American history and our govt is taught like a series of facts, but the heart of the story-----the cause they were fighting for---has not been conveyed, and therefore, the Declaration has no meaning for people. It is sad that Americans don't know our history, what the constitution is, and how the Bill of Rights protects each and every one of us. What an amazing story, new and unrehearsed, America, a Republican democracy with THE RULE OF LAW PREEMINENT AND A PRESIDENT WITH EQUAL POWER TO THE JUDICIARY AND LEGISLATIVE BODIES. Washington, who was asked to rule for more yrs than he wanted, refused to be called"king" and willingly relinquished power. It never ceases to amaze me the beauty and majesty of our country and our govt. To see Anericans disparage it, destroy the flag, curse and vilify America makes me physically ill. And yes, that includes Trump, who demeans and demolishes America and Americans, especially veterans at every turn.
It’s because women were allowed to vote and then scum were allowed to take over the country. By the way, I’m Gary‘s wife and I’m a woman and I do not believe that women should have the right to vote nor should they ever occupy any place in the federal, state, county or city government, and we need to get rid of all the bureaucracy in this country.

I actually live where all of this happened in Philadelphia. I think a lot of young people know many of them owned human beings. So they get judged for that as they should.

The fact that the USA that is singled out for having slavery in our past is ludicrous. Even in the present throughout the world slavery abounds. Those complaining about the distant past in America when slavery was legal should instead work to end the current slavery still practiced in other nations. Yet here they are harping about many of our Founding Fathers being owners of slaves. In their time it was common and not illegal. If not for the genius, sacrifice, and dedication of our Founding Fathers the United States would never have been created. I agree! Heroes like this aren't common! We recently watched the 2024 movie Bonhoeffer that depicted a man similar to our founders in greatness of purpose. These are inspiring stories and individuals!

What great courage and foresight it took for these men to band and stick together to declare America free!! Sadly, so many of them didn't live to see their dream of freedom come to fruition! I've reflected on what I remembered of it numerous times since with little recollection of all the details, but I'm going to save this and rewatch it on occasion. The sacrifices, inspiration and dedication of our forefathers MUST NOT be forgotten nor categorized as unimportant or insignificant.
I miss Paul Harvey and his "That's the rest of the story." This was a most sobering account of the signers of the Declaration. God bless them all. And may we live worthy of their vision and their great sacrifices.

I Revere them for what they did! It brings a tear to my eye! I tear up with gratitude and reverence, and I tear up with sadness for the place we find ourselves in, our country has lost its way and we share in the blame for allowing it to get this bad! Quite honestly, this has been an eye opening in depth history lesson for me and now I truly understand what independence day is. Thank you so much Paul Harvey. This is the kind of history that should be taught in all schools in our nation so everyone truly understands the sacrifice these men made in actually creating our free country. Quite honestly, this has been an eye opening in depth history lesson for me and now I truly understand what independence day is. I grew up listening to Paul and I miss hearing his voice and the stories he brought to life, shed light upon.
These brave souls who gave their all… so that we could have freedom. God Bless them all. And Paul Harvey too!
