Sowell doesn't believe there are lasting consequences of 400 years of white savagery and oppression. He doesn't believe in epigenetic trauma. He is the savior of those plagued by white guilt.
igongi ~ Yeah, i couldn’t agree more with him & his wisdom of words. He reminds me of the famous TV show in Great Britain called the black and white minstrel show
This man is so much like my father, who told me when I was a young man seeking my “first real job.” I complained that I didn’t get hired, because I was black. My father stopped me immediately and said, son, you didn’t get the job because you don’t have the skills. It had nothing to do with skin color. He went on to say, that he wouldn’t hire me for the position simply because I didn’t have the experience needed, although I had the education. He scolded me and said: “make skin color the very last reason to use for not getting something you want.” I’ve lived by that motto ever since, and I’ve taught my daughter to do the same.
Even if you are wrong and skin colour really is the reason you aren't getting the job, the only path forward is to try harder and get better skills because there literally is no alternative. All you can do is all you can do so the reason why becomes basically irrelevant.
I'm white as snow and live in 99% white country in EU. And I will not hire you because of colour if I don't know you. I never have this concern before and I will genuinely not care about race, but after BLM in Usa and I get familiar with victim blaming from black and liberals blaming everyone except themselves, I will try to stay away from this coult as far is possible.
“In a democracy we have always had to worry about the ignorance of the uneducated. Today we have to worry about the ignorance of people with college degrees.” ~Thomas Sowell
That’s what my Chinese cousin tells me when she defends China, she said how can a billion uneducated farmers vote? I said, well are you going to wait until they’re still uneducated, but have college degrees and believe they’re educated? Wild
If this was released and the date was never shown. People would assume it was about today's politics, because nothing ever changes. No one you vote in makes changes for the benefit of the people. They only do things to benefit themselves and their friends, stay rich and keep the 99% poor and tamed, chasing their own tails fighting about who is the more terrible party. Ridiculous and also sad people think either party cares for them completely
He exposes the many lies of rhe democrats and their media. Therefore, I have trouble finding Anyone who has heard of him or Candace Owens or Star Parker or any conservative, especially black. If they have heard of them, you start hearing the insults.

People like Camille Paglia and Christina Hoff-Somers thought they beat them. They just did a tactical withdrawal, got stronger and came back with a fury.

His personal story is inspirational. Born in 1930 in North Carolina, raised in Harlem, high school drop out, Marine Corps, night school to graduating Magna Cum Laude from Harvard in 1958. Jim Crow to Ivy League by way of high intelligence and hard work. No wonder conservatives admire him so much.

Pew research polled Americans to identify the most racist ethnic group and the group that blacks identified as “the most racist ethnic group” was … (drum roll) … Blacks. They indicated that racist blacks are quick to pull the race card at any and every opportunity. Thomas Sowell's "There are no solutions, only tradeoffs" is one of the most profound truths I have ever heard that explains so much, I wish some had told me that decades ago.
That's like talking about the so called "Debt" the government has created on the people. IT REQUIRES EVER MORE DEBT IN ORDER TO TURN. THAT'S HOW A DEBT BASED MONETARY SYSTEM WORKS.(But it's at the taxpayers EXPENSE)(Unconstitutional)
@sterilepickle544 Politicians almost always sell proposed changes as "solutions", but nothing is all-upside. There are always downsides. There are always unintended consequences. So that must be explored to know if the tradeoff is worth it. The most well meaning changes forced bluntly and widely on society more times than not make things worse. It's a warning to be wise and thoughtful of how we execute our demands. Hearing the other side and debate is practical to exploring tradeoffs.
@@ArloPignotti ok I understand so basically everything down side regardless of how good at first they be, so it’s wise to always think thoroughly of the options you are thinking of taking before taking action on them. The elite tend to take the option with the quickest and most satisfying results instead of building things up slowly with careful planning which “fixes” the problem temporarily but causes more problems down the road, sorta like a quick bandage.
I learned this in Business Management at college, which is why I love this man for reminding me of the basis of life on this earth - the freedom to choose!!!
I have learned so much from this wonderful man, mostly in having a much broader perspective on multiple fronts, developing a big picture view instead of zooming in on a pinpoint and believing that’s the entirety
I’m 57 years old and I never could come up with an answer to the question, “Who would you most like to have dinner with?” I now have that answer. It would be the honor and privilege of my life to spend an hour or two dining with and listening and learning from Thomas Sowell.
I would rip him up and down to the point of speechlessness. I would tear every argument down to the ground. How dare this man accuse intellectual elites of thinking they are smarter than others.
Their lifestyles is the #1 reason for the outcome. They work at McDonald's all their life, then are mad they don't have a nice house and car. Well yeah. You worked atcdonalds by choice, you chose to be poor by working at McDonald's
@@prestonhanson501 I mean to be fair tho if they get up in management, sure they'd be working at McDonald's but making some bank. But if you're flipping burgers and never going higher yeah you're gonna be poor forever.
Sowell has a great quote which expands that line: "The first rule of economics is that there are no solutions, just tradeoffs. The first rule of politics is to ignore the first rule of economics."
@@Rajaat99 Not true in all senses or contexts though. For instance, if the rich gets richer due to increased productivity (instead of stealing, via taxes or other means) that usually means that the poorer people get it better as well, everything else equal. This is a fact most socialists ignore. They often belive its always a tradeoff, economically. A zero sum game. (Although not even Marx or Engels said it was that simple.)
@@Rajaat99 It's usually increased due to new or enhanced production methods invented (or new "technology", as many people say today). Sometimes due to a new scientific breaktrough or discovery. Some major such events historically could be when we discovered how to plant food, later how to (genetically, without knowing it) manipulate the plants to give better yields. Or when the English invented the steam machine, or the French invented the automated sawing machine, or the Germans and later Americans invented the modern computer, and so on. The practical applications of all these scientific discoveries and technical inventions sure usually meant some trade offs, but they still *solved* major problems! The vaccines being another example of that (mentioned in the video), saving millions of lives. So Thomas Sowell's thesis is much more true in politics, wars, or perhaps in isolated economic terms, than it is in technology and science, or even culture. I still agree with a lot of things he says, indeed, but *just* trade offs was too simplistic.
We also flooded East Palo Alto with police. I was part of a five county task force that placed three and four times the normal number of cops on the streets so the law abiding locals could see they finally had some protection from the thugs. We had pages of names and pictures of people with warrants and parole violators so we could sweep them off the street. The average response time for calls dropped fpr a half hour to two minutes. We stopped every car with a vehicle code violation because many of them either had warrants or had been committing crimes. Within two weeks, EPA went from multiple gunshots on the streets each night to maybe one or two, and we got to those, in many cases, before the person firing the gun had a chance to hide it. People were once again out taking evening walks, and kids were once again playing in the parks. I know from personal experience that defunding the police is a terrible idea.
Thomas Sowell addressing in the 1990s the SAME issues that persist in 2021. Sowell is talking about, the Leftist elitists, “who ignore the facts or evade them.” Organizations, the “the leaders” of black movements like Jesse Jackson in the 1990s, BLM today, get rich on “symbolic” programs. Nothing changes but they get to feel superior and that they’re on the “side of the angels.” But, nothing changes, and BLM are now millionaires. Conservatives care about black communities. Sowell says there are no “solutions.” We want real answers to help the “majority of the population in black communities” who “are not criminals.” If the activists would work with us we’d be able to lower crime, poverty and murder rates. But, they’re getting rich off talk, symbolic programs and demonizing the Right.
I love the way Thomas sums it up at the end - If people take responsibility for their actions, there is no room for the anointed (and the anointed can't have that).
@Ludwig MIses The government machine thrives when we believe in their manufactured boogeyman. When the current boogeyman is found out, or close to it, they'll move on to the next one. As a country we need to stop fearing, take responsibilities for our selves/family, and demand the government to protect our liberty.
The difference between peoples is culture. Underneath (below the cosmetic variations), we are the same based on a shared genome. The best advice we can give humanity is to begin adopting elements of the most powerful culture until they merge (a multi-generational project). I would recommend the one that has boot prints, used car lots, and abandoned picnic sites on at least two celestial bodies. They are the ones looking to the future with the most intent to get there.
But being responsible for oneself comes from a realisation that one is responsible for oneself. Not everyone has reached that realisation, even in adulthood. Usually the realisation of individual responsibility kicks in in young adulthood, providing the growing individual(s) are not been brainwashed to believe they are not responsible for their self, and providing one does not damage one's own psychosocial development, for instance with drug use which halts one's psychosocial development at the age when the drug use commences. It is not as easy as just telling people they need to take responsibility for their self. They need to have acquired that realisation, and they need to want it too, that is, not shy away from it. People shy from all sorts of things, and there is no greater burden than the burden of freewill and the responsibility that goes along with it, so it is no wonder that so many would rather deny the existence of freewill and responsibility, and instead resort to blaming others or circumstances. And even if they do accept responsibility, they also need a certain level of intelligence to solve their life problems, for intelligence manifests as problem solving ability, and life is becoming more complex and difficult for those with lower intelligence to manage. So I do not think the problem is as easily addressed as Mr. Sowell here suggests.

If ones crimes are in the name of good or helping those who are oppressed, in the face of an unjust system of laws, then, is there still a problem with that? To me the saddest thing is that the "anointed" control government! Without that control, the couldn't implement their assinine policies! Not that your idea is wrong.
I continue to expose my Principles of Economics students to the wisdom of Thomas Sowell. I also assigned his book "The Vision of the Anointed" in a liberty course for college seniors. Students clearly eat it up. Sowell is the master of critical thinking.
Every so often I stumble upon this again, and rewatch it. It never ceases to amaze me how pinpoint accurate Thomas Sowell is regarding the anointed mindset, and the destruction that flows from it.
"I'm not tough, life is tough...I'm merely trying to acquaint you with those facts". This here is so profound...there are 2 types of people...those that are paralyzed in the "life is not fair" mentality and blame & expect others to save them. And then there are those who accept it but, understand that it is their responsibility to rise above that and pull themselves up by their own bootstraps and actually do the work. There will always be obstacles but we have to rise above them.
Thomas Sowell is brilliant. The facts he presents are thoroughly researched and from an objective perspective. I’m always learning new things when watching his videos.

This is the best Sowell video I've watched - so far. Not only does he speak the truth, he's able to back it up with logic, facts, concrete examples and outcomes. And, yet, none of his wisdom and intelligence seems to be able to break through the noise of the left.
Something I love a lot when listening to such a giant as Thomas Sowell is that he talks with evidence from a lifetime of thought and study without being lost outside the real world, a temptation to common with intellectuals that create or believe a fantasy that only exists in college books. There is not ideology behinds his words but both intelligence and experience. Is a sad fact I only knew about him when a commentator thinking I was a left leaning individual point me to Thomas Sowell, I will be forever grateful for that mistake because this great man of our time is being hidden by media.
I just discovered Thomas Sowell 30 minutes ago looking for books on basic economics. His is a Genius. I know he recently had his 91st Birthday. I wish millions could learn about him and how he understands human behavior is driven by incentives and costs and that the Government needs to let People make their own decisions on how to live.
" I wish millions could learn about him" Millions do. Look at the views on his UA-cam videos. UA-cam has done wonders for the proliferation of his ideas. I'm super thankful for it and so are countless others. Look up the recently passed Walter Williams as well. He's not far off Sowell.

Truth is like that...
It seems to be more relevant today.
Can you explain what exactly that means?
“There are no solutions, there are just trade offs.”
This is profound and true.
Sowell has a great quote which expands that line:
"The first rule of economics is that there are no solutions, just tradeoffs.
@@herrbonk3635 Yes, but the statement is still true. Increased productivity is still a trade off. Why was productivity increased?

Sowell says there are no “solutions.” We want real answers to help the “majority of the population in black communities” who “are not criminals.”

@@nidhishshivashankar4885 Cool story, but what does the data say? Because fad diets are a bad idea, regardless of who says it.

@fyufiy Ditto, he is one of my red pill patrons. I also have to credit Larry Elder, Jordan Peterson, Douglas Murray, Candace Owens… I feel so much better on this side.
It should never be about left vs right. Thats just a game to divide and label people. We should all be free thinking individuals who sometimes lean left and sometimes right..
Sowell… pure genius. Why don’t more people listen to his words of wisdom?
Because most politicians and academics are in the cult of Woke.
Because the msm has most ppl under mind control
So well, just like his name.
The media makes a concerted effort his words don't reach the average person that would benefit to hear from him.
Because about half of what he says is true and the other half is ultra-rightwing fantasy.
26 years on and what Sowell said in 1995 about the anointed applies even more now than it did then. The fact that he is so little known speaks volumes about the power of the liberal media.
Man I'm 26. Where were going as a country is a dark place.
He's so unknown because his views are difficult to understand by undereducated people. Therefore, it's easy for people with an agenda to ignore him. The fact is that most of the problems he addresses are more complex than his answers. For example, "There are no solutions, just trade-offs." That's too simplistic of an answer.
@@MoeinthePhilippines quest. does water make things wet ? answ. yes ! - simple but undeniably true.
he's basically saying its not a perfect world. perfection is G-D buisness , not ideology nor politics nor " idealism" good wiiled pragmatism , kicks a#s against "idealism" every day of the week.
Almost 30 years later, and this STILL describes the democratic party to a "T". The analysis was right: with leftists, it isn't about the specific policies or even the major issues of the day, it is about this blatantly false sense of superiority, this false vanity. The left are no more than air headed imbeciles who try their hardest to look smart. They dress their arguments and ideology in emotion, but they are completely devoid of facts and reason. Which is why when emotion fails for them and reality slaps them in the face, they don't know what to do, there is no "plan B" for them.
The way he breaks things down is amazing. So much wisdom and common sense, yet he can communicate it in a way that everyone can understand. #Legend

My high school English teacher used Sowell’s essays/books as the pinnacle of a perfect writer. She fervently disagreed with every point he made (after all, she was an indoctrinated state agent working in a government building called school) but it was through the manner he stated his claims, refuted countervailing narratives, and at the ease in which one could follow his arguments. Glad to see Sowell still cranking out more books and interviews.
I'll give your teacher credit for not hiding him, the way most on the left do.

You are not Thomas Sowell, you fraudulent creep. Go away.
Three cheers for your teacher seeing the good in one of her political opponents-it's nice to confirm that some of the anointed aren't completely blinded by their politics.
@@jonaskoelker Blinded by her politics she was, but steadfast in her willingness to listen to opposing viewpoints that tested her preconceived notions. Oddly enough, I appreciated her candor and enjoyed her intellectual stimulation. Never would she allow fellow students to regurgitate talking points like they do on cable/main-stream media. With her, you could babel about any of your opinions. Her’s always leaned towards the left, but you were *never* entitled to your own facts. Maybe this is why she was so enamored by Sowell?
On another note, I don’t remember my time in school being so divisive as it seems today. Who knows? Maybe if I was instructed in today’s woke environment, I’d would be marching to “end white supremacy”. I guess my former English teacher wouldn’t agree with that take either. Seeing people’s political stances back then, I know we were somewhat divided, but not merely in the manner we are today. That’s why I don’t assume most people see themselves as “the anointed”. Rather, we are all too fast to speak and just as slow to listen-especially with viewpoints that aren’t our own.

No solutions, only trade offs. This is the best and only answer that actually works. Love this guy.
It's really a short sighted answer since obviously the world and human society has undergone tremendous change since the opening of the capitalist era that began in Europe only about 500 years ago.
@@kimobrien. "Short sighted" but true...after all, the simplest answer is almost always the best.

Nixon's simple solution to the decline of the dollar and demand for gold for weak dollars was the "temporary" suspension of the gold standard. That was fifty years ago. I was 6 when this interview was done. We lived in the poor part of town neighboring another town which had major gang problems with drugs and shootings. Dad was stuck working for a crappy chemical company and mom was dealing with assholes from her job at a public tv station. They didn't beg the government for help; they saved their money and we moved to the countryside and they got much better jobs. These days we are doing well. Parents are retired with money in the bank and 401Ks along with getting social security while I (now 33) am working overtime at a job that is needing more workers but people seem more than happy with welfare from the government than actually working.
That last statement is very true. You could say the same about what is happening in England, speaking from experience.
