Good info. Did a borehole at our new property at the beginning of the year and this is what I learned and what it cost. Also got quotes from three places. The one company had drill packages that includes the drilling and the casing pipe only. The other two companies quote drilling per meter and casing pipe per meter. Two of the three companies also charged a setup fee. I went for the company that charged 320 per meter for drilling and 600 per meter for casing and no setup fee. I checked references of this company and all were very good. I then did some research in the area and asked people in the area that do have existing boreholes what is the depth and yield of the holes. This will give a good estimate of the expected depth that you will require (Important this is just an estimate) Drilling started and solid rock was reached at 21 meters so 21 meters of casing were installed = R12 600 First water hit at 25 meters More water at 35 and then 40 meters. Driller said this is strong water but I asked to drill another 5 meters to create more space in the hole (a sump) Total depth 45 meters = R14 400 The drilling took about 5 hours to complete. The drilling in total cost R 27000. Here is the hidden costs: All the drill cuttings needs to be removed and cleaned. I did this myself but you require help and a trailer to remove it. (Worst part about drilling) Pump installation: This is an area where consumers need to be very careful. There is people that does pump installations and take advantage of people and their lack of knowledge regarding boreholes. They will tell you they first need to pump the hole dry to establish the yield and what pump is required. R 2500 for this. Secondly they will tell you, you need a 1.1kw pump and this will cost R18 000 including the installation. Don't fall for this crap. If you want to use the borehole for domestic purposes then check your average monthly consumption. In my case we used about 2000 liters per day with irrigation. So I expected to get at most 3000 liters in a 24 hour period from my borehole. I bought a .55kw borehole pump kit that include all you need to do the installation excluding the pipe. This pump is suited for a hole of 55 meters. (As you go deeper you will require a stronger pump. Good place to buy pumps and get good information is at places like Obaro or NWK) This cost me R4800 and I did the installation myself. I already had a 2500 liter tank and pressure pump so I connected the borehole to this tank and automate the filling by means of a smart pump controller and float switch. The pump controller provides protection should the hole run dry or an electrical issue occur. The controller and float switch cost R2500. Also had to buy a manhole cover and did the construction. Cost about R2000. Keep the following in mind: Borehole water is not always clean water. You need to have the water tested if you want to use it domestically and completely go "off grid" from municipal supply. We were lucky and unlucky. The water is clean in terms of no bacteria and safe for human consumption but its not visually clean. Lots of sand and mud in the water so water is very discolored. The water is also hard which is not good for pipes, taps and geysers as it will cause severe corrosion and/or scale build up. This required a water softener system and water filtration. Additional costs: Water test = R650 50 liter vertical filter filled with activated glass media (Pre filter on the borehole line before entering the tank) = R6000 Big blue three stage filter system (Post tank filter before entering water softener) = R2400 50liter water softener system = R9000 Fittings, valves and pipe for installing filters and softener = R4000 This filter and softener combo cleans and softens the water to the point that the water is clear and no corrosion or scale build up occurs. Note: I did this installation myself. A quote for this filters and softener combo including installation came to R32000. Be careful as again companies take advantage of people and they will install oversized valves and other items that brings the cost up. The labor rates are also insanely high. So in total my borehole cost me: Drilling = R27 000 Borehole Pump incl manhole construction = R9300 Water test = R650 Filters = R17 400 All fittings required for installation = R4000 Total = R58 350 Again this does not include any labor as all the installation work was done by myself. So yeah take these additional items into account. Each borehole is unique and will have different hidden costs. Make sure you shop around when considering a borehole and check online references before making a decision. Also remember a borehole is like a living thing that requires care and maintenance. No company will tell you this. With a tank system use a valve at the inlet to the tank to throttle the borehole pump. My tank will take about 4hours to fill from empty as it pumps at about 10 liters a minute (2500 liter). The pump at the depth can pump 50 liters a minute but the borehole cant produce that much and if the pump runs open it will run the hole dry. This is not good for the hole as it will start washing the hole out. This can lead to rocks dislodging and then sealing the hole off and you will end up drilling a new hole. Secondly I add about a quarter packet of pool "shock it" every 6 months to sanities the hole. As said borehole water is not always clean and algae and other coliform growths can form inside the hole. This will keep it clean. That is my learnings and tips. Is the borehole worth it. 100% yes. No more worries about water outages and no more municipal bill for water usage.
Thank you so much for opening my eyes I have been wanting to have my bolehole re drilled but not sure where to go coz of fear of these scams May I have your number so I can also get the right people please

For our lodge we have a sand/carbon filter and a water softener. About 10 years ago we paid R 100000 for the complete system. Nice soft drinking water from all taps at our house.

Good afternoon mam how does the borehole water work does it give you a endless supply of water can it supply if for instance you have maybe 10 apartments with maybe 10 families living there please can you tell how much water it can supply a day
I think it can be able to supply a large number. You’ll just need a bigger tank maybe from 10000L and a pump that’s able to pump water quickly from underground to the tank plus a pressure booster so that the water going to the households can have sufficient pressure. But I’m sure people dealing with industrial boreholes can give better advice.

@@MaySmithereen yhuu that quote made headache ,over 100k for a borehole😭 I got a cheaper quote from a company in Gauteng but I’m afraid to use it. Worse I really need this water.
The borehole water has to be tested and the right filters placed for the water to be entirely safe for consumption. We haven’t done this part but plan on doing it. For now we use the water for everything else besides drinking. Once boiled I consider it safe 😅
@@xireninsights ok thanks. There is one neighbourhood close to Cape town in a remote industrial area. Because of high cost of living, students do rush to that area for affordable accommodation. Most of students use borehole water in that area. I witnessed, one house installing borehole water within a couple of hours, the house had borehole water running for students. I found out that the owner spent about R30K for the entire installation process. My questions still remain whether that water is safe, especially in that industrial zone. At least you doing it for yourself and water safety is likely to be one of your main goal. I would like to understand the safety part of borehole water and necessary testing needed. All the best with your project
It's easy in the sandy areas in the Cape. You don't even need a drilling machine. If you are practically inclined you can do it yourself. Water table where I live is about 3m below surface. The water is acidic and has a very high iron content - good for gardening but not for household purposes.
What the heck!..these people mean business. R100 K for a borehole and irrigation system 🤦♂️ that is mos a government tender. My borehole cost me less than R5000 in CPT. A float switch for R1200 jesus. If i were you, i would've collected municipal water into my jojo tank and pumped it into my house and collect rain water for irrigation. But you can afford why not keep the economy going.
I’m seeing a couple of comments about how cheap it is in CT. But here in joburg there isn’t much rain. So rain water won’t be enough. And we’ve been experiencing extreme water cuts from the municipality recently which wouldn’t be sustainable. But it’s a once off investment which will yield savings later on.
Im in the EC my property already had a borehole when I bought it, i dont hear new installers complaining about the cost. Those are GP, KZN, NW, L and MP costs.
Well done. From your quotes I didn't see anything related to water quality testing, or I missed it? Does your borehole water meet water drinking standards or you use it for everything else besides drinking it? We normally assist people with borehole water quality testing to make sure it's safe for human consumption
Yes water testing was not included in the quotes but after the installation was done they wanted to take it for testing at R3800. But for consumption we’re already used to buying water.
groundwater quality is very important, therefore it's important to find out first whether the water underground in your area are not contaminated/polluted before drilling. Gauteng and other areas in the vicinity of the mine dumps has contaminated underground water due to chemicals moving through aquifer and polluting groundwater. Some of the groundwater are not suitable for gardening, irrigation, consumption etc.
I think it’s possible, as long as they can find a water source. The yard at my parents home is not that big. They drilled the borehole on the garage driveway.
I'm still surprised by Capetown. Perhaps their borehole depth is shorter. I actually enquired from local providers regarding the wide difference between GP and KZN. And they all said pretty much the same thing, I DON'T KNOW HOW THEY DO IT UP THERE🗿

Who did you buy your land from a induna? insilo? tribal authority? Do you have to pay annual taxes?
No it’s an estate… so we pay levies to the estate + monthly rates and taxes to the municipal + mortgage to the bank
And ontop of all that you have to pay the town council taxes for 0 services .
Yeah. What choice do we have 😂
One choice is to become self-sufficient, not easy, but possible.
Can someone recommend a borehole company that is cheaper that I can use in EASTERN CAPE.
Me and you both, because the quote I got was absolutely ridiculous
@@MaySmithereen yhuu that quote made headache ,over 100k for a borehole😭 I got a cheaper quote from a company in Gauteng but I’m afraid to use it. Worse I really need this water.
Hope you come right
@@xireninsights where is the borehole company you used situated? I want to ask for a quote?
How safe is borehole water for daily human consumption: drinking, cooking, showering etc
So how do I know that my water was drilled up to 100m not 40m
I really don’t know hey 😅 we just take their word for it
Erm, Bayaxoka. I Iive in Cape Town. It cost me R4800.00 a few years ago just before the drought eKapa, and now we have just had torrential rain...
Yoh that’s very cheap… wish I stayed in Cape Town 😔
Cape Town has higher water table, that's why it's relatively cheap
Me too!
The challenge is water from the municipal and lack of rain this side.
Please share the company you used
Im in the EC my property already had a borehole when I bought it, i dont hear new installers complaining about the cost.
@@xireninsights awesome !
Well Explained
groundwater quality is very important, therefore it's important to find out first whether the water underground in your area are not contaminated/polluted before drilling. Gauteng and other areas in the vicinity of the mine dumps has contaminated underground water due to chemicals moving through aquifer and polluting groundwater. Some of the groundwater are not suitable for gardening, irrigation, consumption etc.
@@jabulanisello9116please furnish us with your water testing company details or website
What’s the cost for the filter?
That depends on the water some systems are inexpensive when water is good and some are a Lott more
Hi thanks for this information. I have a question do you think it's possible to get a borehole in a small yard
I think it’s possible, as long as they can find a water source. The yard at my parents home is not that big. They drilled the borehole on the garage driveway.
@@xireninsights thank you so much. You just got yourself a new subscriber 😊
Thank you 😊 ❤️
Thanks 👍
Welcome 👍
Welcome 👍
Good 👍
Thank you ❤️
Which province
Gauteng
For R20 is boreholes can make.
KZN prices are crazy..... Expect 75K minimum.
That’s extreme. Was expecting it to be more expensive here in Gauteng or even CPT. But seems like CPT is cheaper
I'm still surprised by Capetown. Perhaps their borehole depth is shorter. I actually enquired from local providers regarding the wide difference between GP and KZN.
And they all said pretty much the same thing, I DON'T KNOW HOW THEY DO IT UP THERE🗿
They found water at 70m for us, it's not cheap
Its not expensive in cape town
Wish I was in Cape Town. In Joburg it’s overpriced 😭
@5:44 I would have assumed these guys with the quote are scsmmers.
Please can you share their contacts
Good explanation en very impartant subject just made m subscribe on chanel
Thanks and welcome ❤️ 😊
Limpopo was 40 000 in 2018 i don't know now it was 60 metres
Yoh borehole ain’t cheap. Thought in Limpopo it’s cheaper. I’m sure it’s even higher now since that price was 7 years ago
*HELLO XIREN, THANK YOU DEAR FOR SHARING AND MORE SO IT'S EDUCATIONAL FOR ONE TO HAVE AN OVERVIEW HOW THE PROCESS GO ABOUT. I AM MOTSWANA LIVING ABROAD AND I HAVE PLANNED TO DRILL A BOREHOLE WHEN I COME HOME. YOU HAVE ENLIGHTEN ME ON WHAT I SHOULD PUT IN MIND FOR THE PROCESS OF A BOREHOLE DRILLING. THANK YOU, I APPRECIATE YOUR TIME AND EFFORTS TO EDUCATE US. //BEST REGARDS* ❤️🇿🇦❤️
You’re welcome I’m glad you found this info helpful ❤️☺️
Never thought its this expensive yoh
I was also shocked. Thought it will cost R25k😅
Johannesburg water, providing air but charging for water.
😂 you can say that again. It’s like since they stopped load shedding now they’re into water shedding.
Boreholes are very expensive in SA
Ridiculously expensive 😅
Not in EC and WC.
Who does your taxes?
I do my own taxes
They Robbed you, it's R10000 in the NW, some place R7000
That’s so cheap. Places do differ I guess. My parents in Limpopo spent around 15k almost 20 years ago 🤷🏿♀️
Other places is R70000, depending. They check different places around the yard.
Water table in Cape Town is high
Where in NW??
I stay in Rustenburg
Can you please give us the contact number of the drilling company
It's not about having water on the land or not. In the NW west it's rock non-stop, mining area. But it's still cheap. It's just depends who you met.
This sounds like the perfect business to over bill customers😂
A business idea for you if you still haven’t ventured into one 😂
yooo thats alot for a 100M borehole , but good info
Yeah it’s too expensive. In my mind I thought borehole won’t cost above R25k 😂 but ey😓
@@xireninsights yoo did my 60m for 15k
That’s very affordable. How long ago was that and which province? My parents’ borehole costed around that price, 25m but that was 20 years ago.
@@xireninsights 4 years ago in limpopo, but no pump i did my own installation. pump i got for 3k
@@xireninsights now things are expensive..
For 5 year we are still without water, but R48000 gone. Never seen water...a hole still there
Sorry about that 😥 Not fair
Name and shame that company. 😕
My mom paid R900 in 1998😅
My goodness 😅 wish things were still that cheap. She did herself a favour because a borehole is a lifetime investment.
If I could just find my time machine😅
We need those 1998 prices back 😭😂
Borehole water is healthy than tap water from municipal
I agree. Municipal water is chlorinated and the state of some water reserves where it’s pumped from is very dirty 😅
@@xireninsights sometimes it is urine
More money more honey
Yeah everything needs money
😭😭
Yaaa meh but naa I have done three boreholes in my life one for my farm one for my mother and last one for my family what is said here naaa
I’m sharing my experience. Are you also in Gauteng?
Not to mention the fact that you're in SA so they can easily tell you they drilled 100m while it was only 50m.
True 😅
Speak for your GP/L/MP/NW town SA is too big to use experience of an individual or a handful. Im in the western region of the EC and i dont hear horror stories. You cant see when they take the measurements or verify that yourself? Smh.
100m 🤔 maintenance of that bore whole will be expensive.
Actually not maintenance on a holle is minimal a good pump will last 10 to 20 years
You can't just give a cost of a borehole!! It depends on the land and if you are higher or lower land..this is my bread and butter,we do most of the boreholes in jhb
I’m giving my cost (my personal experience) obviously it will differ with another person’s experience. Have you done a video on social media to market your services?
Hahaha.lol
One thing about borehole water?? H.E.A.V.E.N 🤌🏾🤤
