Mike! I bought me some French fries today and caught 15 bass, biggest being about 4lbs using this technique!! No one else caught anything. Who woulda thought a French fry with a nail weight in its arse would be so effective. Thanks man!!!
I've been fishing this technique all summer long and have caught 2 6+ lb Largemouth from under trees. I LOVE this technique. I even rig a 5" Senko style bait like this and fish with a baitcaster. It has the same action!
Appreciate the tips brother and get um next time. I've never been much of a spring fisherman but with these tips will surely help. I tend to catch big ones when it's tough late summer fall winter the tournaments where everybody whacks em 20 pound sacks halfway down the board not me but when it's a struggle like your city limits fishing and such that's my time when I'm up there. Fishing the northern open on the James River here in a couple weeks
Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.
Thats also why i love a Berkeley general just t-rigged the first fall it falls like a wacky but once it hits bottom twitch it up and it has a backwards fall
Ike, I’ve made a couple small modifications to this rig with some success. Biggest tweak is I use larger-sized snell/salmon egg-style hooks instead of standard offset ones. I run the hook thru the worm to about 1/3rd down the body and then Texas rig it. You are 100% correct, btw. This technique is no joke. Been a game changer for me last year and so far this season. Thank you for sharing this as always. You make us PA boys proud!
Great tip dude. Imagination is the WONDERFUL aspect fishing. Being creative is one of the greatest part of fishing. Become a kid again and imagine what your lure is doing down there and that a big Ol’ bass is looking at it. Be that kid again.
Look into “Flying Lures” if you like fishing these backwards swimming type rigs. 👍 Ive kept a few in my box for years and they are great for this type presentation.
Scissors make a square bottom on any soft plastic... then I super glue a 3/4" .062 diameter screw eye in the bottom and attach a size 1 or 2 Colorado blade with a split ring , no swivel... it works great..
I can verify this is a killer rig all year round. You can actually up-size it and use it on a baitcaster with 10 pound line. For the bigger version I will use the Z-Man big TRD and a VMC half moon Neko weight. Size 1 or 1/0 worm hook. Caught 2 of my biggest fish on this rig drifting in a kayak with a lift and fall motion of the rod just like Mike says.
Always love your content. I gave a big whoop and holler the last time I caught a fish and my wife said I sounded like Ike. I said, I'll take that as a compliment. Appreciate you and the time you take to bring us some tips
Every bass I caught late summer last year was that rigging technique but with a 5” senko. Pull it up slowly, and let it fall backwards. Damn I don’t feel like such a novice now😎. Thanks Mike!
Really cool trick and video! Is this effective in dirty water as long as you have an isolated target(stick-up, stump, etc)? Thanks for giving up the gold! 😃👍🏼
Thanks for the awesome tip and video! I've always fished French fry worms weightless Texas rig or wacky but I've never tried it with the tail nail weight. Definitely going to try this the next time out. I already have the VMC neko weights and finesse hooks ready to rig this up.
I didn't think to check because I did not think that they sold it I thought you would have to buy it online or through one of the fisherman's site but I found out that Cabela's sells it's so thank you I know you would have responded but I found my answer happy fishing
@@kevinobrien5360 Cool glad you were able to find them. I'd purchased mine previously from Tackle Warehouse online. I've purchased VMC stuff at Dick's before too, but not all their retail stores have a fishing section.
@@johnhanselman6371 yes sir, it does! Simple little tricks and techniques to common baits can be a game changer at crucial times when traditional methods are not working. I personally have not applied this technique yet… But we will be doing so this weekend.
I figured it out, in college I had a professor that lectured in the same cadence as Mike, I kept wondering why do I find this familiar and my wife comes in my man cave on night and says Mike is loud and to turn it down she couldn't sleep, she says its like when we were in college taking notes in this one professors class, and she was right and he did this so no one would fall asleep in his classroom 😴 Mike iaconelli did you have the same teacher? Lol! If angling is ever offered as an elective at the collegiate level, Mike is the man for the job, 3 credit hours elective!
Awesomeness this is like version 2.0 flying lure from the early days 😀 I always wanted 1 never can find them now awesome thanksive never used a leader line though
I just bought some mike they only had junebug ,black and methylite i got them all of course.. I have a question why do all the powerbaits with glitter smell different then the good strong smell???
I’m not saying I luv this technique 🤫. But u can try casting past cover, skimming it over the top and letting it glide back/down under it... 🤫. I definitely didn’t land the bass in my profile pic like that. Which was the first bass with a new rod😎
I like it when you give up your secrets... not so much when you give up mine😂 I actually hand pour my own French fries for personal use, I call them 'fish fries' haha
I have a Shimano Semetre 3000 Fl real with a 7-foot medium-heavy fast tip Saint Croix fishing rod I have never heard of a real being categorized as a 20 or 30 or if is a 40 I don't know what this real would be classified as.

Have done this using baby brushhogs. Texas rig starting between the twister tails and the nail in the big end. Works great
Mike thanks for all you do. I read your book years ago and it has impacted my life in ways you will never know. Thank you!

4 inch worms slay! Never not catching fish on 'em - great video and love the energy as always

I wish powerbait would make the havoc backslide. That bait was amazing.
Scissors make a square bottom on any soft plastic... then I super glue a 3/4" .062 diameter screw eye in the bottom and attach a size 1 or 2 Colorado blade with a split ring , no swivel... it works great..
It’s honestly similar to the Tiny Child Rig but with a slightly longer soft plastic worm/senko

I used this one sprucerun today and caught 9 bass up to 4lbs 15oz. Thanks mike
Saw Ike fishing this technique on Clearlake, he caught a few good fish.

Enjoyed the info, God bless you!
Used to get that same action with the Flying Lure. Bedded bass hated that thing.
I 100% thought you were crazy for this, but this thing killed it for me on the lake.
Every bass I caught late summer last year was that rigging technique but with a 5” senko. Pull it up slowly, and let it fall backwards. Damn I don’t feel like such a novice now😎. Thanks Mike!
The old Havoc Backslide was really good for this.

French fry worms always slayed I’ve been throwing them for probably 10 years durning the spawn
Thanks Mike ..great tip
It's the stick bait version of the old flying lure. Worth a shot!
That lure crushed some trout for me back in the 90s.. 🎣
Bingo...i couldnt remember the name..and I knew if i looked...it would be in the comments somewhere.... Thanks
The bass ackward worm 😎works great in the cypress roots!
I've been doing this with the Zoom Centipedes for AGES. Never tried the Berkley ones. I'll have to put an order in soon!
Great Video adding this to the arsenal
Me and my dad already invented this rig on our own!!! We use Gary Yamamoto Senkos instead. We call it the Torpedo Rig.
Awesome tips ....greetings from Miami Florida
Love it Going to a knew lake this weekend I’ve never fished I’m pumped about fishing new water But I’m trying this out
I usually tail weight a curly fry from arby's...alot of action...little cheese sauce doesnt hurt, either
Hey Ike you ever get a trick worm and split the tail of it? Smashes fish where im from.
Richard Gene the f I shin machine just did a video on that one. Looks like a killer modification!
@@tonythelovegunI watched the same Richard Gene video. Looks good.

Loves the tips and advice bro your a legend thanks big Ike
I used it yesterday in spruce run add did great
OMG that's crazy I fish that on a gambler power Ned and a Tex.rig tube in that color. Got a win on Toledo bend in local club tourney on it last month.
Great tip, Ike.
Chartreuse is the perfect color too!Looks like a chartreuse worm that fell out of tree!Smallmouth Candy!
Awesome information. By the way, Ike Live is fricken great. That jeopardy game last time was hilarious. Can't wait for the next one.
Mike always givin up the goods!
Top secret bait = Havoc Backslides. Still using them for fishing docks & overhanging brush. Down to my last handful. Have any to sell Mike???!
Thanks Mike! That looks like a winner.

Watch TacticalBassin - UA-cam, they have lots of underwater videos catching bass.
It is almost like the flying lure !!!!!

Glad you enjoyed it
Will be giving this a shot at Clearlake this weekend. 🍻
Love the neko skirt for bed fish
What bait should I use for summer from annabel
I just bought some mike they only had junebug ,black and methylite i got them all of course.. I have a question why do all the powerbaits with glitter smell different then the good strong smell???
I found with the skirted weight the bass would attack the skirt and just take that.
Thanks for sharing this great info, Mike!
Hi Mike, what's your favorite color french fry worm for clear water?
Great tips on this channel. Simple yet effective fundamentals. From a new subscriber, thanks🙏🏼
What happened to the havoc back slide?
That's great Mike would you fish that rig in Lake Fork?
You gave this tip back in the day on your "city limits" tv show..
Great tip
How do you purchase VMC brand products?.
Any chance of knowing where I can order the Berkeley Powerbait Lugworm. Your lead with Tackle Warehouse is bad. I called them and no such bait there
Like the flying lure lol
Hi Mike congratulatison , lets try your finnesse option Chauuuuuuuu.
Thank you!
Why did berkley do away with the backslide?
I’m not saying I luv this technique 🤫. But u can try casting past cover, skimming it over the top and letting it glide back/down under it... 🤫. I definitely didn’t land the bass in my profile pic like that. Which was the first bass with a new rod😎
great information thanks for the tips!
Hi Mike I've got some french fries in my old arsenal I believe I'll breakem out now fr ur tip deuely
Correction bugs me doing typos reel.
Where do i find this french fry worm?
Like a Texas rigged flying lure, but streamlined and with a good weedless hook. Good stuff Ike!
I'm going to Beef It Up and use it on a baitcaster
Why did Berkley stop making the back slide!?
Great,thanks.
Thanks for giving my secret bait up
Def trying this!!!
Great tip, thanks!
I like it when you give up your secrets... not so much when you give up mine😂 I actually hand pour my own French fries for personal use, I call them 'fish fries' haha
Not that big a secret Ike! Some of us remember the back slide worm! Still have a few packs left.
Thanks for the info

Ned Rig or Neko works just as good

I'm going to give it a shot good old French fry
That’s what she said

Gonna have to try this for Smallies on the beds.
Flying lure.
