One canning channel I watch said you should never have empty jars on your shelf. Once you have a few, pressure can water. You can use the water if you need the jar. Makes sense to me. Sterile water would come in handy in a medical situation if necessary…the Nurse in me agrees
Always thought people were joking when they said they were going to can water. Hmmm . . . I guess maybe not. Well, you learn something every day. Thanks, Modern Refugee.
I never thought to can rain water..I canned water many years ago when I dudnt have enough in my canner so not to bust my jars from to much space. Thanks for the info..You make soap too..gosh..your wife is some lucky to have such a skilled husband like yourself.
When I'm canning anything and I don't have enough jars of food to fill my canner (water bath or pressure), I have started adding a quart of water to can. Only problem is down South anyone who sees a quart jar full of a clear liquid, they think it is moonshine.
Great suggestion to those who don’t know. I got 4 cases of sterilized water. 👍. Never thought of rain water. Edit: opps…4 quarts and 6 pints. Guess I better get busy! Lol…😀
I am a huge fan of canned water too..for your viewers: .the USDA in the form of the National Center For Home Food Preservation (NCFHFP) approves this method for long term water storage and recommends WB canning water for 10 mins in a WB canner for sterile water (more/longer for different elevations) I like that you added some time for rain-water and that you prefiltered. Great job, lots of folks should have sterile water on hand...as you know it's not just for drinking/cooking we can use it for wound cleaning too. stay cool,
Agree. Water will be important. Rain water is the best!!! Oh man. Had to run to the bathroom. 😂 Laughed the whole way! My water is very mineral heavy hard water, too. I distill mine first and the use that.
I thought about doing this with my extra jars, and if or when I needed my jars for food the water would be used for canning, no waste. Great video, have a blessed day
Never really thought of canning water since we are in a well but for sterilized needs it is a great idea. Thank y'all. Have a blessed evening. Have to say though my first thought was y'all a bit late for April fools😂

any time i am canning less than a full load, i add water jars to finish filling the canner. that way, i use no extra fuel to can them. also, rain drops are formed around a particle of dust or other particles in the air. so they are pretty clean, but do have some particles that could be filtered or settled out even if captured directly. just sayin'.
Great idea. We have filled jars with filtered water, had not thought about canning it for long term. Would love to see some soap making videos using the rain water. Thanks!
We make all our own laundry detergent, saves a pile of $$. If you haven't already done so, would you consider doing a segment on your soap making recipe?
If I'm going through the trouble to process water for storage, you can bet I won't be using it for anything other than sustenance, You can make soap with rainwater that has been filtered, it's not for internal consumption. You're going to want every bit of potable water you can get your hands on.

Maybe a dumb question. The price of lids is still kind of spendy here. I’m assuming that the lids would be only good for one time use even with canning water? I hesitate using generic brand lids in general, but if it was for water it might be safe. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, wisdom and talent!
Supposedly once you water-bath or pressure can something, that lid isn't supposed to be used again. It doesn't matter what you canned in the jar. That has no bearing on the heat and pressure on the lid.
Thanks for the info about using rainwater for soap making. Question: do you need to boil this water when you open the jar or is it good to go? I should think it’d be fine but wanted to check. Thanks MR. Good vid!

Yep. Unless they're in the know. Put a "W" on the lid. After the first time, they'll never make that mistake again. 😆

I've never thought of storing water that way... thanks MR 😎👍

My grandparents had a organic farm and store in the 70's .
They had quart tin cans that someone made a label that read "dehydrated water". Lol😂😂
I've got 3 cases of 1/2 gallon jars and a deep stock pot. I should can water in them.👍😄 I'd rather store a full jar than an empty jar.
Didn't ever think of this. Great idea. Thanks MR.

Canning Water ? You Blew my Mind with this one ! I thought I was advanced ? Time to reevaluate
Half gallon jars work good too.

I dehydrate my water. Takes up less space.
Good idea.
Wouldn't you have a problem finding it when needed ? 😮😊

@@mauimixer6040 No. I just label the jar. I’ve never been wrong cuz everytime I add water it rehydrates right up.

I was just thinking about canning water as my dad just gave me two boxes of old canning jars.

Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink.
Even better than rain water is natural spring water, or well water that has rocks adding minerals to it
I will do this if I can get suitable shelving up.
For the effort I would simply buy bottled water. From the 👍. Best

Nope. It's already been boiled in the canning process. You're good to go!
It’s good right from the jar. It is sterile from the hot water bath canning.
Thank you.
I’m Thinkin’ ?
Can I ask: what's the difference between just storing water in the jars and water bathing them? Does water go bad? We have filtered water.
It would sterilize the water. In case anything is in it.
@@ModernRefugee Good point. Thanks!
So 20 mins for quarts but how about 1/2 gallons? Thanks.
10 more minutes
Add 10 as long as it’s tap water.
Apologies for the follow up... and for gallon?
