    About Simple Little Life:
    This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
    Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
    Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

      Getting such a beautiful knife made by Jeremys hands AND the corresponding (!) making-of video?
      Holy smokes, lucky you!

    I love this for two reasons: first, it's a great design and looks really good. Second, I have watched the first video you posted and I can see improvements in your craft since then. More attention to detail, and better systems to achieve your goal. Great stuff. More please :D

    I knew a knife maker back in high school who also did impressive work. One time, he carved Michelangelo's Creation of Adam across two knife faux-ivory handles. One had Adam reaching out a teeny tiny finger to God on the other, complete with billowing robes and cherubs. I said "they're so delicate, I'd be afraid to pick them up."
    He simply said "yup. mostly, people just want a pretty knife to look at. So I made them something to look at."
    ...which is just a long winded way of saying, with your skill, you'd probably do well making miniature replicas ( or blunted "letter openers") of video game blades and hitting the convention circuit.

    The recurve came out nice, maybe try a compound grind next, it fits that shape pretty good. Still haven't figured out which I like best though... I've gotta try that swedge idea on the horizontal, I don't know what it is about swedges, but they always sike me out. I mess them up everytime... How do you like those G10 pins? I bought some a while ago, but always forget i have them. Hope all is well, have a great weekend

    • @Simplelittlelife
      @Simplelittlelife  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Dave, much appreciated. I have a heck of a time free handing swedges too. Those are carbon fiber pins and I really like them a lot. I like them because they grind perfectly flush with the scale material and you never have to worry about over heating and stuff like that. I prefer synthetic pins to metal ones 👍

    Thanks for the awesome video! Couldn’t have come at a more perfect time as I’m grinding a recurve myself. Question: can you please do a video of making a kydex sheath for blades that have curves? Also I’m terrified that that drill press is going to catch the blade and rip your arm open. 🤓 thank you so much for the inspiration and keep up the good work!!

    • @Simplelittlelife
      @Simplelittlelife  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you! I would but I'm making a leather sheath for this knife. Maybe next kydex with a curve I should film it. I was worried too! That's why I flipped it around and just held it with my fingers so I could be out of the way if needed. 😆👍

  • @jjppres
    @jjppres 4 роки тому

    Looks great and man is it sharp as always. I do have a question this time. Why such a thick steel? In the beginning of the video when I noticed the thickness I was fully prepared to see you thinning it out a bit. I was very suprised when you didn't. Not a bash at all. Just a question. I've watched every video you have ever done on this channel and usually see you match the steel thickness to the particular knife you are making. I do the same except for when I am going to thin it out unless forging then it really doesn't much matter.
