    I should have watched this a couple weeks ago. I have all the cross problems going on, but it's too far gone to go back now. It's a learning experience & I'm going to love it when it's done.

    Nice! My very first sweater used tonal wool and I was doing the twist method along one side and I can definitely see how it's less elastic and even a tiny bit shorter along that side. Thanks for this tutorial!

    Thank you so much for this! I was trying to knit my first sweater and I did about 15 inches hated it and tore it out at least 6 times and then gave up. I'm so glad that I found your video because I really want to knit that sweater. I'm going to find my yarn and cast it on right now.

    Once again many thanks for sorting out my dilemma 🤗 There was quite a bit of colour difference between a couple of my hand dyed skeins and I was beside myself. All sorted now and once again thank you for your explanations of "why🤔" Please take care during these challenging times. Rita

    Great demonstration as always! 😊 I can’t thank you enough for sharing your expertise and making our knitting lives easier. I was about to start my first sweater knitted with hand dyed yarn, and wasn’t sure whether to cross the yarns when I changed skeins or not… now I don’t understand why some people cross them 🤔. Big hug from Barcelona ❤️

    Excellent video. I used Method 2 in a project with wool I’ve had in my stash for close to 35 years. All balls were the same colour but I’d purchased different dye lots. Long story.

    Thank you for a great tutorial. I like that you showed the RS and RS of the fabric. I just began a sweater that is knitted entirely with the WS out so you turn it inside out at the end. This jogless join will not show on the WS, which will looks nicer and lay nicely.

    Susan youre the best! You have made my knit life better : ) Thank you for taking the time to share your knit knowledge so clearly. I was wondering if you would happen to know about brioche helical knitting? I started a top down, one-color, brioche, knit in the round sweater with hand-painted yarn and I would love to blend the yarns with a helix technique but not sure if its even possible (considering brioche is a two row pattern) Thanks for your help and creativity!

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  4 роки тому

      I have a video on working 2 color brioche in the round. You could use the same technique of dropping one yarn and picking up the other at the round change - here is the video - ua-cam.com/video/oeZEOL0GOag/v-deo.html

    Am I correct in assuming this only works when changing colors every row and not every 2+ rows? Suzanne you are amazing? I’m SO happy I found this channel and your Off the Cuff channel. You are an OUTSTANDING teacher! Thank you sooooo much!

    Dear Suzanne, what is te best way to do short rows in helical knitting or in 1 by 1 stripe round knitting? Thank you so much in advance . It seems I can't find any videos about that nowhere. Thank you so much for your teaching.

    Thank you for this great video! Can you please explain the pros and cons of this technique versus the method in which three stitches are slipped when transitioning to the next row? Is one method better than the other? Are the results the same? Thank you!

    Thanks again for another great video. I've just finished the yoke on my first colour work sweater and I'm using helical knitting now for alternating the skeins. However I've just noticed that there is some German short row shaping to finish the yoke. How do you do helical knitting for short rows ???

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  4 роки тому

      You can not change yarns during the short row section. It is just the nature of the beast.

    Hi Suzanne,
    Thank you for sharing this technique! I am in the process of knitting a top down raglan pullover in the round with hand dyed yarn that has a purl row every 6th row of the pattern repeat. Would this method work in this instance? Also can I start the alternate skein a few stitches away from the BOR marker? Thanks!!

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  2 роки тому

      Yes and yes, Marley, excellent question! You can start skien a few inches from the marker would be fine. ❤️

    Thank you so much for your wonderful tutorials. I am about to start a pair of socks with two skeins of hand dyed yarn. I will need to alternate the skeins so that they will blend better. Would you suggest that I change skeins not at the beginning of the round but somewhere else in the knitting. I was concerned that this method might not work at the intersections of my knitting. Thank you!

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  4 роки тому

      It really doesn't matter where you change the skeins, just be consistent.

    Your videos are so very helpful. Can you please clarify….I am knitting a sweater in the round with hand dyed yarn, do you suggest alternating skeins every round?

  • @maryannc7223
    @maryannc7223 2 роки тому +1

    Thank you so much! I’m trying this technique as I am working a sweater with two different skeins of “no dye lot” yarn. The gauge is intentionally very loose so twisting the yarns showed and the stretchiness was off, like you showed in the video. I am very happy with the helix technique but I am going to run out of yarn 1 before I run out of yarn 2. Is there anything special I should do in the transition to to only yarn 2? (I started the helix in the armhole so the beginning is hidden but the end of yarn 1 is going to be mid-sleeve and -mid body. )

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  2 роки тому +2

      Great question. When working with two skiers at once, it is actually better to start the skeins staggered so that you don't run out of both at the same time. I actually work with the first yarn for ½ skein, then add in the second skein. Then when the first skein runs out, I start the third and so one.

    • @maryannc7223
      @maryannc7223 2 роки тому

      @@SuzanneBryan Thank you, Suzanne! I sort of accidentally found the answer to my own problem when I forgot to pick up the other yarn in the helix and found there was absolutely no “jog!” It’s still nice to know to have it confirmed that it doesn’t require a special technique.

    If we are working. Rib and want to alternate
    Do I want to make the switch between two knit stitches vs after a purl stitch
    I am working a 3 x 3 rib and it seems I am getting a hole.. I was doing the twist method but want to switch .
    Did I need to start with the non twist originally or is the purl that’s causing the issue

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  3 роки тому

      You should be able to switch at any point. Do not twist the yarns. That is what causes the hole. Try it on a swatch.

    My brain is misfiring...something serms missing. I did this method in error on my sides in knitting round sweater n it left little gaps between the first and last st because they never were connecting. Help my brain cause its not wrapping around this. Thanks
