Fire a normal pressure round through the blocks and then fire the waaaay over pressure round through them and compare the penetration difference.
Brother, I know it is pure coincidence that you had that Mack truck on your channel, but it brought back some warm memories. Probably the greatest man I’ve ever known and I hope to be him in so many ways as I navigate through life. Thank you for the great video and reminiscent feelings for him. You’re the man Scott.

And you don't drone on about politics which is great because everything everywhere is politics now. It's great to come here and just see some great gun content. Keep it up man.
I have always wanted an M1 Garand. And this broke my heart to see one destroyed like you did. While it was interesting to watch, but I hated to see something I have never shot but yet still wanted one. Oh, well.
@@martinswiney2192 This was obviously a reproduction 😂 Come on dude. That rifle was in pristine condition. You really think he would do that to an unissued Gov M1? Those are worth 60-70k. He could put a kid through school with one of those. + The wood was the wrong wood. M1s were never that light in color. They always used boiled linseed oil or something similar to seal it and that's typically what gave M1s their kind of unmistakable reddish brown color.
I'm going to assume this wasn't an original for my own sanity, but even so it still hurt to watch it go boom.... Definitely one of the biggest booms so far!
I am hoping it was a modern replica. Have you considered the Civilian Marksmanship Program for getting an M1? I think they're going to be cheaper vs private sale etc, though the availability is dwindling.
@@danielgoodman3578Gotta participate in a CMP-sponsored match to qualify iirc. Which, if you don't already have a surplus rifle, basically means rimfire matches. Fairly accessible, but not everyone has the time, patience, or money to participate in a shooting match.

When I was on the Langley AFB/HQ TAC Honor Guard in the '80s, we carried Garands for gun salutes at funerals. It pains me to see such a beautiful rifle meet such a violent end. However, it's also important to understand what can happen if we don't treat our weapons properly.
@@Yuck412 When a weapon gets sufficiently worn and badly maintained a normal round can cause this kind of effect. But putting that much wear and tear on the gun for these tests isn't reasonable so an overloaded round is a good stand in.
Being laid up after hernia repairs, I found a friend. This is great. It took me a few episodes before I realized Scott is the guy who swallowed a .50 bmg breech. And here he is still punishing himself, and weapons, for our "education." I am loving this.

What a lot of people don't know is that you need to my special 30-06 ammo for the Garand you can't just go to the sporting goods store and by 30-06 there the pressures are too high. It needs to be labeled as M2 ball or specificaly for the M1 Garand.

Hey Scott, make sure you are using 30-06 ammo specifically loaded to function well in a M1. They can be finicky and some ammo can actually really damage your op rod over time and cause ftf/fte/fte malfunctions
I'd be curious to see what pressure would cause the failure. The meatballs are always extra spicy, but progressively spicier meatballs would be cool too
Aww, this one is gonna be particularly painful. What a piece of history! I'm wondering now how other guns would handle overpressure events. Maybe the BAR or HCAR?

Love this series can never get enough of this science along with the beautiful slow mo. But Scott this one really hurt my very existence and being. one of my grail guns I want to own.
What’s absolutely surprising to me is that the most failure prone part of the garand with high pressure, the operating rod, survived mostly. At least didn’t fail in the normal high pressure way. All due to the bolt giving before the bullet reached the gas port

@@barackmycat9448 i think he means Garands going boom. Theres so many vids of idiots having a squib or using sketchy handloads and turning these guns (which ARE NOT PRODUCED ANYMORE) into pipe bombs.
Since they are not produced and valuable is the point I was making.@@WendiGonerLH
As a gun guy, that was interesting and informative.
As a carpenter, seeing that beautiful walnut splinter hurt my soul.
I had the pleasure of qualifying with the M1 ,M14,and M16 , 45 cal. And using them and a few others weapons in combat during my 3 tours in Vietnam
I don't know how good or bad of an idea this is, but in these guns go boom videos, I'd love to see a bunch of ballistics gel blocks lined up in front of the gun. Fire a normal pressure round through the blocks and then fire the waaaay over pressure round through them and compare the penetration difference.
I'd just like for us to take a moment of silence in respect of the fallen firearm. It was a good rifle.. It served us well.. It will be missed.

I'm dead inside. I dream of owning a m1 garand and scott just blew one up...heartbreaking.😢
Brother, I know it is pure coincidence that you had that Mack truck on your channel, but it brought back some warm memories. My late grandfather was a diesel mechanic and salesman for Mack Trucks for over 30 years. Unfortunately, 3 years ago we lost him to pulmonary fibrosis. Probably the greatest man I’ve ever known and I hope to be him in so many ways as I navigate through life. Thank you for the great video and reminiscent feelings for him. You’re the man Scott.
I love your channel for so many reasons. Obviously ballistics tests with rare weapons is just awesome. The jokes/humor are delightful. You clearly know your gun safety. And you don't drone on about politics which is great because everything everywhere is politics now. It's great to come here and just see some great gun content. Keep it up man.
I love that the colab with the Slo Mo Guys has given us even slower gun explosions! Can't wait for the next one. Great vid as always, Scott!
Blowing up that M1 Garand like that was sacrilegious!!!
I have always wanted an M1 Garand. And this broke my heart to see one destroyed like you did. While it was interesting to watch, but I hated to see something I have never shot but yet still wanted one. Oh, well.
Cmp has stock and is the cheapest you will see
Get one if you can. They are great rifles and Scott should not have done this.
Well it was a helluva explosion though.
It's not like it was *the last one*...
You and your dam explosions, they never get me, but today that one did !!!
That explosion at 10:00 made me jump in my seat 😂
lol me too
It gets me every time lol...
I've had the pleasure of shooting an m1 garand before, and the legendary "ping" definitely lived up to the hype.
I can definitely tell by Scotts smile-o-meter that he really enjoys his toy crane, lol.
I'm going to assume this wasn't an original for my own sanity, but even so it still hurt to watch it go boom.... Definitely one of the biggest booms so far!
It probably was an original m1 as there aren't any companies making modern ones
That M1 Garand Exploded like a crate in half life 10:19
Start sending me those guns instead of destroying them. I would love to have an M1 grand. Keep doing what you’re doing buddy. Much love to you.
As a Marine, I’ve always wanted an M1 Grand but can’t afford one. Sad to see one get destroyed.
I love this channel. I appreciate the testing and what you are doing. That said, I shed a tear for the loss of a good M1. I have 2 small cranes that I took off the road last year if you're interested Scott.
When I was on the Langley AFB/HQ TAC Honor Guard in the '80s, we carried Garands for gun salutes at funerals. It pains me to see such a beautiful rifle meet such a violent end. However, it's also important to understand what can happen if we don't treat our weapons properly.
Putting a bullet with like 5x the amount of force than the bullet you're supposed to use has nothing to do with treating a weapon properly.
My Dad (God Rest his Soul) is a WWII Marine Veteran and he loved his M1, and he missed it. And from his stories, I know he would have cried after watching you destroy a good M1.
As a member of the civilian marksmanship program I cried a little when you detonated that beautiful rifle
Yup me too.
“Cried a little?” I’m a member of the CMP and GCA as well, and I’m disgusted. If you haven’t noticed they aren’t exactly making more Garands. This doof should be ashamed of himself. But he’s got like 3.8m subscribers? That just tells me that he hasn’t been pulling crap like this very long or he’d have zero people watching.
@@alantripp6175 heh it was jaming a lot soooo
@@reliantbelial2341that's because of the ammo not the gun. The M1 uses a specific 30-06 round,a regular 30-06 jams in them fairly often. This gun was perfect, was.

The fact Scott is wearing his Just Stick A Thumb In It shirt while giving himself Garand Thumb is the bow tie on a neatly packaged gift.
Hi Scott,
I live in Northern Ireland where you cannot even own an air pistol without a special licence.
Love all your videos . Always a breath of freszh air in this suffocating society. As an avid gun fan without any firearms available, I look forward to all your videos. Thank you
Try to move to USA you will love the freedom they still have here
Come legally to the US. Our liberty is always under attack from both political parties, but here is the one place you can always have your guns. When I was younger I idolized England, Scotland, and Ireland. Would still love to visit, but could never live in a place with such a boldly out of control government. The US government is bad enough.
You don't require anything to come America
If you ever visit the USA, seriously let us know. I guarantee someone in whatever state you visit would love to take you out for a day and let you shoot whatever you want. I doubt it would be Missouri that you'd visit, but if it is, I'd be glad to take you shooting.
Such a great video series but so painful to see such a wonderful gun get destroyed 😢
i only halfway agree. any other m1 id absolutely agree, but that thing was jamming a lot and it looked like each wood part was from a different gun... a franken-m1
@@JerryLeeLewis-1 or because theyre rebuilt from parts that arent exactly the same. sometimes is not worth re-tuning the gun or repairing the gun.

The explosion footage makes me sad. That was a beautiful rifle!
I knew a guy this happened to. Brand new out of the box Springfield Armory model. Damned near killed him. Blew a piece of the op rod into his brachial artery. Fortunately he survived. Unfortunately he lost his battle with depression and took his own life a couple of years ago. Springfield sent him a new rifle but never did say what happened.
I’d bet it was a barrel obstruction from the factory. May he rest in peace
What a lot of people don't know is that you need to my special 30-06 ammo for the Garand you can't just go to the sporting goods store and by 30-06 there the pressures are too high. It needs to be labeled as M2 ball or specificaly for the M1 Garand.
@@sgibbers17Either that or buy a modified gas port for commercial ammunition.
@@dannyhull8007 I’ve shot nothing but commercial ammo out of my Garand with an adjustable gas plug. 180 gr hunting ammo, 150 gr ball, 165 gr match, and no issues
@@dannyhull8007 Yes. Either way you can not just buy a Garand and put standard 30-06 ammo in it. You need special ammo or use the modified gas port. I'm just glad that a coworker of mine pointed it out to me before I received my Garand.
Now that's the best intro I've seen here in years.

Feel bad such a classic had to be destroyed. but Science can't be done without sacrifice! It's interesting to see how the Receiver and Barrel basically held together as one part, and how the trigger effectively sheared off the gun! Love your vids as always!
The Army Ordnance Department and the CMP has already verified that 58,000 is the limit. No need for him to ruin a classic military weapon to do this video.
looks like a modern clone, not a historical piece.
@@rogerd777it's a modern clone; they make them to this day. the finish isnt nearly worn enough to be a classic, and Scott would never destroy a real historic piece willingly.
@@rogerd777 it isn't about testing the pressure limit, it is about documenting what a failure could look like with this specific firearm if a spiked cartridge / mis-loaded cartridge were loaded and fired and this is the test criteria because scott is a survivor of a overpressure round turning a large rifle into a near death experience.
@@rogerd777 ODCMP says 100,000 not to mention all others that haven't returned to the states yet.
Hey Scott, make sure you are using 30-06 ammo specifically loaded to function well in a M1. They can be finicky and some ammo can actually really damage your op rod over time and cause ftf/fte/fte malfunctions
Yup and don't forget to use grease on the op rod track

Fun fact in real life nobody was actually able to hear the ping sound in combat
Funny how a 30-06 going off inches away from your ear will do that.

But what about the split muzzle?
I'm not too into American WW2 Weapons, but one of these Few I respect as Most as a Veteran Old Man is the M1 Grant. And Seen it Blowing and Tearing off apart like that just broke as the Same my Heart.
It is not Right. It was not Right even on Experiment Matter.
It kills me a little bit every time you intentionally destroy a rifle, but that venerable old rifle did not deserve that.
This is truly the definition of irony. This video loaded today and my RN-50 will be delivered on Monday. Thanks you so much. I have waited 2 years for this rifle. Love everything you do!
Be careful! Remember, no SLAP rounds! Lol.
To each their own, but seemed like a really nice M1 Garand that shouldn’t have been needlessly destroyed.
