LAFAYETTE: Welcome to Lafayette, Louisiana, and today we’re going to eat at Laura's II, what is easily one of the best Soul Creole food restaurants in the United States. They are famous for giant stuffed turkey wings which are about 2 pounds each, okra stew, and rice and gravy. Let’s see how the turkey wings are made and let’s eat!
I arrived to Laura’s II in Lafayette a little early in order to meet with Madonna. Madonna’s Grandmother, Laura, had a restaurant originally in a different location, and so that’s why the restaurant is called Laura’s II. They serve a variety of Creole Soul food, including a variety of rice dishes, stewed and smothered vegetables, bbq ribs, and the most famous of everything - giant stuffed turkey wings. The turkey wings are stuffed with a blend of spices including cayenne peppers, then seasoned fully with red pepper, and then boiled in a baking pan for 3.5 hours. The result is ultra tender turkey wings that are slightly crispy and gooey all at the same time. The sides dishes, including the rice and gravy and rice dressing (dirty rice), were outstanding, as was the smothered okra.
I can not emphasize this enough, it was probably one of the best Soul Food meals I’ve ever had in my life. Don’t miss Laura’s II when you’re in Lafayette, Louisiana!

That real my favorite was Moko in Jamaica
Wow! Mark is finally in my home state. We have the best food here!
For those struggling with the silence or lack of detailed explanations please understand us southerners do not measure and calculate when we cook. It is genuinely from the soul and most of us learn recipes by sight and taste only. That kitchen has a rhythm to it that no amount of explanation can capture. Thanks Mark!
Thank you very much!
After seeing this show I want to visit too 😂😂
Its called muscle memory. She's been doing that since she was knee high to a tadpole.
No doubt about it. SW Louisiana has some of the best food in the world.

Mark is so likeable and sincere. I love how he attacks the food with giant bites. His metabolism must be off the charts.
I think bringing his wife along helps with activating the metabolism 😅😅😅
I personally think it's all the hot peppers & hot chillis he eats😂
I find him extremely likeable. I'd love to have he & his family as my neighbors.
worked in Lafayette for 8 years ran 6-10 miles every morning so that I could enjoy the awesome cuisine at night yummy
As a Louisiana Creole, this video had me grinnin' from ear to ear. I knew she was gonna get you with those wings! Thanks for trying our food :)

We visited Laura's II a couple of days ago after seeing this and it was delicious! The Turkey Wings were already sold out for the day but we had delicious BBQ ribs, fried catfish and fried chicken with the rice dressing, yams and baked beans. All hot & yummy!

Sooo good.
Watching this for 2nd time along with 2 other episodes from NOLA. hungry is an understatement.
Coretta, how far did you travel to get to LauraIi ? I'm glad for you.
That opening shot of pulling apart A TURKEY WING WITH A PLASTIC FORK! - My heavens, you sold the show with ONE SINGLE SHOT. Bravo Mark!

They are always there with him but I never see them eat anything. I realize he is the food blogger but it would be nice to see his wife and son eat once in a while.
Haha his wife got the jackpot with mark. She's travelling free of charge with him... and she is getting plenty of food for FREE!! Smart girl 😂😂😂

Tried Lauras 2 for the first time today and i must say I give it a 12 out of 10 on the ratings. Good service and mannerism in their establishment and that alone with the great meal makes you welcomed in a family type of sense !!! Definitely going back soon 🙏🏽
Thank you Mark, I've watched this video few months ago when I was in 🇨🇦. Just moved to lafayette and didn't waste time to go there. And told her about it. Oh my God the food is amazing and she gave me plenty more 😍 yummy 😋

It is so important to feature these Mom & Pop Restaurants and I say that out of Respect because it is the foundation of what is considered American Fine Dining and it is important to celebrate local farm to table ingredients. Thank You for Your Diplomacy in presenting food, travel & history on all levels and all cultures.
Mark, you brought back memories for me. I haven't been back to Lafayette and the original Laura's since 1981. Now that I'm back in Texas, I must take a trip to Louisiana. Thank you for your show.
I died laughing when Mark was speechless after his meal. Eating soul food will make you so tired when you are done. He is not kidding about canceling any plans you may have after a hearty soul food meal.
sonya continued ”meal. i once canceled plans to a fine restaurant.” #markweins #secondo
The food looks so good and you can tell that it is from how Mark digs in, his reactions, and all of his yummy sounds. The wings and ribs are good to the bone!

I ain't gonna lie, all that food looks incredibly delicious!! 🤤

Turkey wings are the best
ua-cam.com/video/WgC_rnVyyv8/v-deo.html...
I regularly cooked turkey wings for my kids when they were growing up, such an affordable source of protein, when on a tight budget. I'm from South London, (Brixton/ Peckham) back in the day you could easily get 2-3 large turkey wings for a £1 and 5lbs of chicken wings for £1.30, both very versatile.
Mark that's a great Southern Comfort Food experience. Those Turkey legs were so tender and the okra stew looked richer than the Gumbo soup which I love. My dad loved making Gumbo. The ribs were cooked just perfect and falling off the bone. Just you're reaction over the rice stuffing makes my mouth water. Monique and her staff are wonderful cooks. Well learned from her grandparents and her mom! Reminds me of my mom's mom who cooked Southern comfort meals herself this was just wonderful.
I can just imagine how good it smells in there! Just reminding you of grandma's kitchen, on a Sunday after church!!!🥰
Now you see why we in Louisiana, especially here in Lafayette, are a little "over weight." We love our food, the mixes of cultures in how our foods are prepared and seasoned...and the "nice" people...we welcome all.
😂💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥
it's all that roux :p
Nothing wrong with a lil fat in every meal.. that means nature loves u
I think you misplaced your parenthesis.. It should be over little. We are a "little" overweight. lol. Probably because every recipe starts with butter. Love it here though.
Mais, we make enough food for everybody and make sure none of it goes to waste XD

Okra is a southern food, and if you are a true southerner you're apt to call it "okree". It's not found much north of Tennessee. Here in my area of northwestern Arkansas it is found only in the frozen veggies section or pickled in jars. In the deep south it is a common fresh vegetable in the produce area. Okra is a member of the Mallow family, closely related to cotton. The pods must be very young to be edible, otherwise they become woody. I just made myself hungry for pickled okra, and will add it to my shopping list now. Great show, as usual, my brother!
I absolutely enjoyed watching this episode because it brought back memories of last year's Christmas in the US. I really enjoy watching Mark eat, I am sat here in North East England salivating!!!
As an American who loves food and food TV, I sometimes get jaded or bored with seeing certain places highlighted because they are either run of the mill or I’ve seen them a million times. As a Black American Woman, this episode gave me all the feels!!! This reminds me of my mother, home, the warm hugs you get after Sunday service or the discipline you get at Sunday school. It hits right at my core where there are no measurements… you just stop shaking on the seasoning when you feel the ancestors pull at your arm. LOL. Such a great job, Mark and team. I’m vegetarian at the moment but I would slap somebody if that turkey Wang (because that right there is not simply a wHing 😂) was put in front of me… okaaaay!
