- The sun and harsh weather has ruined two canvas porch swings but to today I will show you How To Make A Porch Swing Ergonomic, $120 and Comfortable! After a long day's work there is nothing better than sitting on something you build while surveying your hard work. When I designed this swing I made it so that it could be built from dimensional lumber you can get at the home center but I had a bunch of cherry I got got pennies on the dollar, I really like the look of cherry so that is what I used! You can use pressure treated lumber, cedar, or even white pine as long as you finish it promptly.

The two person porch swing has curves in the seat and on the back and has proven to be very comfortable even for long periods of time. If you download the plans you will get three files, the plans, and two 1:1 templates that allow you to print and make a template to get the curves right every time. The plans do not include a frame to hang the swing but there are plenty of options on the internet to fill that gap.

Grabbed the plans from your site. Built mine out of PT lumber. Came out absolutely amazing. Love it
Looks very nice thank you for sharing
Thank you too
Wonderful swing !! Will be making 2 of these once I am retired in just over a month. They will hang on either side of our firepit at the lake !!
That turned out looking great, Tyler! Excellent work and great design!
Fisher's Shop I’m curious how you’d go about doing a project like this. I’m sure your neighbor wouldn’t mind “lending” you some wood and hardware.
Got the plans yesterday. Could have probably done without them but for convenience.... This will be perfect for my wife's birthday... In June!!!
Oh my gosh that is one gorgeous swing seat 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙋🏻♀️🇬🇧💕
Timing, my daughter just asked me to build one. I’m doing it!!
Another great job by you Tyler! That marine-grade finish may have been nasty to deal with but, look at those results! Well worth the effort and time.
Awesome video, thanks for sharing
Hi Tyler great discription of your porch swing!! Really like your shop and tools ! Thanks for posting! Duane
From one TYLER to another, ( I was born a TYLER from OHIO)This beautiful swing is just what I want!
Yoooooo, Im 100% going to be grabbing those plans from you. I have the same swing and the seat parts is all messed up. im closing on my new house in a few weeks, and as soon as I do this will be my first project.
Very Beautiful ❤❤❤
Beautiful swing! I love your videos and the kids in the background. You also have a beautiful property to enjoy!
Awesome as usual Tyler!!
What is the length of the swing? Are the plans for a 5 or 6 foot length?
Nice work on the porch swing Tyler! Thanks for sharing the video with us!💖👍👌😎JP
Love it! Why use spade bits of forstner bits though?
Nice job man thank you 4 share
Very nice! Looks amazing and definitely looks sturdy!
Awesome work Tyler! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks for sharing the Video, excellent work, I will need to try and make one now!!!!!
Gorgeous Tyler! I could also see it with forged hardware and blackened to contrast that beautiful Cherry 🍒.
Maybe I can do that?
That cherry really comes to live with the finish on!! Beautiful bench (and very nice garden by the way)
Excelente trabalho. Parabéns!
Great job and design. I don't see the link for the plans? Am I missing it?
Cool stuff Tyler. The swing looks great! Good one.
That swing looks fantastic!
Turned out beautiful, love the cherry! The smile from your wife says it all (happiness). Can't believe how big you son is getting. Better watch out Dad, he will soon be right in there with you. :^)
I had the same mental frame swing with the swing out glass tables. I wish I would have done this with it.
Un gran bel dondolo, complimenti!
Ciao! 👋🏻 🇮🇹
Hi Tyler great porch swing! I have tried finding the plans by clicking the link, but all it is showing is another video of the porch swing could you let me know how I should be able to apply for
them. thank you Joyce
This swing frame is really nice. Where is it from?
Turned out great, Tyler! That lap joint was really not that hard, and makes those supports look nice and uniform.
Good work👍👍👍 ❤from🇮🇱
Good Morning Tyler, Thanks.
Tyler love the swing build. At the end I noticed your bird feeder I wish you would make a really nice copper top bird feeder.
Great job. Poor Sal.
Absolutely perfect’ cool
thanks for sharing!!!
well now that is a fancy swing
Awesome sauce!!!! That be one dope swing
You are the best
This is a great video. The link doesn’t seem to be working for the plans. Is there a way to access them still? Thanks!
What's the thing you rotate called ? At 08:38
Beautiful swing. I love the swings that have the curves. So much more comfortable. I cringe when I see someone build a square shape swing. I just wanna tell them, 'Are are bodies square? Humm no.' The link to your swing plans are not there. Did you move them? Thanks for your video. Thumbs up and new subscriber here. You did a great job! Love it!
Can I use these plans for a porch swing that hangs from beams?
awesome
Where's the metal stand come from?
What eyebolt size did you use?
this is awesome! question: from a structural point of view, why is the second eyelet in the center, and then fed through the hole that drilled behind it (vs) put the second eyelet on the back corner? I am not well versed in woodworking (learning!), but my first thought was that the chain would rub on the arm inside the drilled hole. thanks!
It’s a pretty odd place to put it for sure.
Lovely!!
What size drill bit did you use in the seat support notches that would allow for the router to get in there?
Awesome as always Tyler. Keep it up man. Upper Peninsula or Lower? I’m from Michigan too so I’m curious.
Doesn't everything in your garage get covered when you spray in there?
I’m going to guess not or else he would put plastic up or something. I’ll hazard a guess the small aerosolized particles that don’t land on the piece may dry before they hit the floor/any thing else? So everything may have a (white?) dust on it that he blows off everything when he’s done?
LOL yes. Overspray is real.
Hey Tyler,! Great job on the porch swing. Curious, what would you charge to build and ship that exact swing?
Very nice
Tyler, I bought your plans and was considering a modification. Is there any reason you can think of NOT to make the crosspieces longer and have it extend past the seat? In this way the chain doesn't have to be threaded through the arms. I've seen some swings that have that feature and I like it better. That's not a criticism of your work, just a personal preference on my part. TIA. Mark
Hello
The plans in metric or imperial? Thanks
Good Morning T. I am in the process of putting my shop together and one of the big problems I have is material handling. I like the cart you have that you can put your sheet goods on and it will pivot and is at the height of your table saw but what do you have to store your sheet goods?.
Hey Dave. Against the wall by the door (right when you enter the shop under the lumber rack) there is a space for plywood to lean against the wall. I don't keep too much on hand so it hasn't been to bad to get to the stuff in the back.
Very nice! Will you have to reapply the varnish once it goes through one of those Michigan winters?
Thanks.
Great swing! If you made another one, what do you think you could sell it for?
About 700 easy.
Tyler, what a small world. I grew up in Memphis, and my Mom still lives in Armada. Hey, where can I get plans for the porch swing? I could find the link?
Never mind. Found it!
You should update your list of materials. The back supports require 2 x 8 x 8. They don’t fit a 2 x 6 x 8
Can Confirm
I agree, just bought the plans and came back from buying the 2x6's to find out I need 2x8's.
How do I get the templates and plans in paper or email form
Whats the thickness of chain?
wow, do you know how much cherry wood is now, i just cant afford it, mine is going to be pine
you should try to get a spray sock for your head they are hot but amazing just like your full face respirator once you go there you'll never go back . ps awesome video
Can anyone tell me where I can get these lids for the paint containers?
Thanks
Still don’t like that chain through the armrest. I’ll have to come up with something.
I am concerned with the eyebolt connection. The force on the bolt is perpendicular to the grain and will act as a lever to split the the 2x timber length wise. The weight carrying capability of the timber in this configuration (through the thickness of the board) is only about half the strength if the eyebolt was installed through the width of the board because the wood fiber (cellulose) is twice as strong as lignin. If installing the eyebolt in this way isn’t a option then the timber needs to be reinforced on at least one side with a gusset (metal or plywood). It would be better to use a through eyebolt with a nut and washer than a lag style. Remember that dynamic force is much larger than static force and the weight may not be centered so a 300# person sitting on one end and swinging could bust that thing up in a hurry.
Bien
🙌
FYI the templates are smaller than 1:1. If you don’t adjust, nothing will fit.
