    Where did you get your stainless steel 3/8”? Thanks!

    • @AroundtheHouse
      @AroundtheHouse  4 роки тому +2

      Thanks for the comment! I bought my hardware at Home Depot. Here are some links to the items I used:
      3/8 in eye bolt - homedepot.sjv.io/RMjKv
      3/8 in rod coupling nut - homedepot.sjv.io/7vrD5
      3.8 in Nuts - homedepot.sjv.io/LMq5o
      Fender washer - homedepot.sjv.io/xg3my
      3/8 x 8in carriage bolt - homedepot.sjv.io/kr3kV
      Some of the links are not stainless, but I was able to find the stainless counterpart in the store. I've also updated the description with the full material list. Good luck with building your porch swing! 🔨

    Improvise, adapt, overcome. You did a great job if you can apply these 3 words to every project you do there is virtually nothing you cannot achieve as a woodworker. Keep going that’s how you teach yourself and others just don’t give up Improvise, adapt, overcome. The project might not turn out exactly like you planned but usually nobody will know but you.

    Your attention to fit and finish and your willingness to take the time to make things right when things are going exactly to plan speaks volumes about you as a crafts person. Using the floor of your “One woman shop” as an assembly area is a good option on a level floor, if I may offer a suggestion, buy yourself a high quality set of knee pads, your knees will thank you 😊 in a couple decades from now. Well done job that swing looked beautiful where it was installed!

    Oh dear! That seemed like a lot of extra steps. That dowelling part I am pretty sure you could have cut a groove the entire length, mortise and tenon style. Just cutting a quarter off the slats on each side would do it. When I built a swing the Taunton Press book mention that no glue flexes with seasonal movement enough. One has to plan it for mechanical fasteners. Good video though. My next swing will offset the hanging hardware away from the armrests, with possibly an adjustable backrest on one side like a chaise lounger.

    • @AroundtheHouse
      @AroundtheHouse  4 роки тому

      You could definitely use mortise and tenons. Thanks for the comment Andrew 😀

    Yes...made the mistake of building our swing out of pressure treated lumber and now the pine tar seeps out from time to time and if you set on it, it sticks to your clothes. Then you have a sticky mess to try and clean it off and nobody wants to set on the swing much/now.
    The plan is to replace the seat and backrest with cedar lumber. Lesson learned.
    Nice build.

    • @AroundtheHouse
      @AroundtheHouse  4 роки тому

      Oh wow, this is a really helpful comment. I briefly thought of using pressure treated lumber and didn't even think about that. Thank you so much for helpful tip. Have fun building 😀

    • @johmarproduction
      @johmarproduction 4 роки тому

      Why buy cedar and then paint it? The paint should keep it protected, no? Plus, I read that buying cedar is really no guarantee anyway because a lot of what's sold is sapwood and doesn't have much decay resistance anyway.
