Great video! I bought an FYLINA tyre compressor which I fought was good until I realised I was getting random results from it! I seen the Ring compressor and noticed it had won auto trader 2019/20 best compressor so looked on UA-cam and found your helpful review! Having read some of the comments and seen that the plug may have been changed, I’m tempted to give it a try!
I got the RTC400, from screw fix, l tried it on the car park before leaving, because l read a few reviews about this problem. Thanks for the video, it'll help lots of people 👍
Mine arrived this morning, they have changed the plug, it is exactly the same size has the one in the video but now has 2 springed earth tabs on the sides rather than the one what's in the video but the plug does get warm after inflating a tyre from 0 to 32 psi, It's a lot better than my old inflater so I'm happy with it.
Some cars do NOT have a Cigarette Lighter Socket. They usually have a 12V socket SOMEWHERE in the car. My 12V socket on my 2009 Mercedes SLK is located in the passenger footwell - very awkward to get to. My first RTC1000 I bought (in May 2020) had a stupid connector end (not like the normal ones) and it would not work in my SLK socket....no power. Ring have changed the connector (not sure exactly when) but my second device arrived with a more usual looking plug-in connector end. Now works FINE for me. After it seems MANY Customer COMPLAINTS about the previous connector, RING have (rightly so) changed the connector end, so they should not be getting complaints (or customer returns) of what is a SUPERB tyre inflator which was being let down by the non-standard connector. I hope RING replace the current "screw on" tyre connector to the much easier push in one with a flip-bar fastening. Perhaps they will with their next released batch? Well done RING!! This unit is now a true success for you.....BUT....RING....now change the screw on tyre connector to make this perfect - and perhaps be able to claim to be the best unit out there for its price!!
Ring have listened to the feedback and have changed the plug to one that works. So all new models being sold shouldn't have the same issue. Glad it's working for you, enjoy 👍
Yes I suppose if I was given this unit for free or it had no warranty I could probably swap the plugs over, however I've since gone for a much better machine from a different company
@@UKWildHiker3250 i went for this. so much quieter than the ring, heavy duty feel to it aswell. currently unavailable though www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B078LYX5YF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_1KKWM3X5RGHS6Q350B0V?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
See my comment above. RING have CHANGED the connector (not sure when). Today received the RTC1000 with a "standard", usual 12V connector fitted!! SUPERB Unit now. Hope this - and my above - comment help.
Thank you very much for the heads up and this video, I was going to purchase the RCT1000 but have now got the RAC635.
thanks for watching, you won't go wrong with the RAC635 it a great all rounder, Its got a really nice bright display aswell 👍

My recently purchased RTC1000 appears to have a different 12v plug, perhaps Ring updated since this review. Very happy with the unit.

They have changed the power plug now
Just bought this one. It seems they now have the original connector.
That's great to hear. I would probably get one then but now they have a new smart one connecting your tyres to your phone through Bluetooth apparently

Working on my golf MK7 no issues.
If i had the problem you have.
I would cut that old plug and rewire on the new pump. 10 min job .

Could you not just swap the 12v connector plug over ?

@@mic400uk Good point, Which one did you go for?

The plastic near the tip of the plug has melted, swap the plug over from the old pump
If that's what has happened, I'm glad I returned it
I ran into the same problem on both my cars.
Yeah, sorry to hear about that. Reading by other comments, though, it looks like Ring have fixed the issue with newer versions
You'd hope... no? think the idiots at ring would test their products beforehand? The same thing happened to me, luckily I had a 12v extension lead.
so put simply its no good
if they changed the plug back to the smaller one, it would probably be awesome, but with the dodgy plug it's as much use as a chocolate tea pot
