Manasquan Inlet, looking for Spanish Mac's and blues from the jetty, as well as fluke. My man DC Darly joined me for a fun afternoon!

I’d cast parallel just outside of the outer rock line as the big fluke will hug structure and smaller fluke will lie in the sand.

Did you customize the guide. Looks like the last one nearest to your hand has an extra spiral

I love fishing there at the Inlet. There are fish of one sort or another almost all the time. The downside is that the rocks and jacks are dangerous a hell and they slice line like a razor.
It was just great to watch you and your buddy catching fish in the sunshine as I sit here on this New Year's weekend and the snow approaches.

I’ve pulled some big fluke from that spot as well as a lot of midsummer bass in the dark there

Fishing the wrong spot in August. I crushed the fluke (with many keepers) in August on the other side and about 500 years to the west. Also caught many keepers well into September at the same spot.

When do you think is the best month for fluke on the manasquan?

I’ve fished the Manasquan (both the inlet & river) for fluke consistently the past few years for fluke. First let me say that I define the inlet as being anything east of the Fisherman’s Monument on the Pt. Pleasant side and obviously the river being anything west of there. Specifically just west of the entrance to the Pt. Pleasant canal. I’ve caught fluke up to #5 back there early on. Around mid June I’ll start fishing from the wall at the inlet. Very, very rarely do I get skunked-thats not to say I always catch a keeper but the short action ( and sometimes the shorts are just short) can be very good. Once the ocean water warms and become clear in August it can get good. And when there is mullet present it can get very good until the season closes. There are certain spots along the wall that always seem to hold quality fluke. Most people over cast the fluke. It’s been my experience that the bigger fluke are always within 12-15 feet from the wall. In fact, I caught a #5.5 fluke by just dropping down tight against the wall.
I always bring a 2nd or 3rd rod with me with at least one rigged up with a small metal as I’ve caught numerous bluefish, bonito, false albacore & spanish mackerel this way fishing the inside the inlet. I rarely go out on to the jetties on either side.
