Bunker Busting and Bluefish Blitzing in Sandy Hook NJ

After a few weeks of incredibly frustrating fishing in rough waters the ocean finally calmed down this week. With fluke season a week in a rearview mirror all I could do is set my sights on the start of the fall run and target stripers, albies, and blues. It was a slow start to the day, but then I noticed a large set of ripples in the water......the ocean came alive with wave after wave of Bunker schools getting blitzed. The fall run is officially ready to kick off with schools of bunker busting all over Sandy Hook, NJ. Quite the sight to behold, and a fun day with a rod in my hand!

Great surf fishing vid! I fish Sandy Hook beach almost every week during summer months. Haven't run into bluefish boil in awhile. Fun fish to catch!!

What’s a good bait for bluefish? Every time I go to sandy hook I always catch flounders, searobin, or nothing
Bunker strips. Smaller bluefish. Any kind of fresh fish.

Gotta support the local NJ fish channel, LOL. Been to Sandy Hook a few times this year and all I get is shad. Not even blues.

What time do you get out there?
Christopher Solis depends on the tide. Always try to catch the three hours before incoming. Got there at 11 that day. But also try to align the trip with the sunrise, up by 3:30 out the door by 4
now what i do at the hook when blues hit the bunker one dead stick the bass pick up the scraps i do ok with that give it a shot

I go there a lot and every time I go for striped bass and use any bait i get picked up by a horseshoe crab they are so annoying

I also think the rod technique should be more upright and perpendicular to the fish rather than sideways, regardless of camera issue. But I do like the run and gun approach here.
It would be great if you didn't drop as many 'F' bombs.
