Welcome to the Letterman UA-cam Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. And for those of you who like Miscellaneous, you may very well find some Miscellaneous here.
Elia Kazan had just received an honorary Oscar that year. Hollywood may have finally forgiven him for naming names - but Dave did not forget!
Kids, google "McCarthy era".
Absolute cheers to the late, great Alan Kalter. He was truly one of the absolute best.
I wonder how many folks back in 1999 got the Elia Kazan naming names bit. It's an even more obscure reference now, bless the Letterman writers for thinking enough of their audiences to not underestimate their intelligence.
We were taught about the communist witch hunt in high school, & the Kazan thing had many articles in the news at the time.
@@amydawn2730 True, and yet I'm convinced the Leno Tonight Show wouldn't have had a bit like this. Dave always skewed to a more intellectual demographic.
"David Letterman sends his regards." Writing. Directing. Performance. The holy trinity of comedy.
It's better to have Elia Kazan and not need him, than to need Elia Kazan and not have him
Also known as the “Lou Rawls Principle”.
The Kool-Aid bit was classic.
Once they busted up that Kool-Aid stand, those kids were thinking, “Oh, Noooo!”
Please post Richard Simmons "GoGo Cart"!😂 He was a great sport on that set up!😊
Time to close up the old CBS Mailbag for this week.
We'll be right back with Ron Howard.
that kazan bit is killer, that audience is a bummer
The kool aid stand bit is a classic.😂
Now, that's very funny. Why can't late night TV be like that anymore? Wait. Nobody can be like Dave or Johnny. Never mind!
There is just nothing even close to this now.
Wait a minute, they sowed an Audi A4 @3:02 ..that's not a Passat!
The outfit/suit Dave is wearing, (including the tie) is S T U N N I N G
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤ dear dave and all hiiii❤
1:25 strange, the first letter has a date of "10 Feb 1996", yet this is from March 26 1999. It's unlikely that's a typo on the letter, because if it was from 1999 like the others, why would your finger slip all the way from the 9 to the 6, especially when there are three 9's in a row. So I'll assume the letter is legitimately from three years prior. Did a writer keep this one in his back pocket all that time? Welcome to another exciting episode of "things only I care about"
That makes it EXTRA funny!
Yeah, that wasn't Elia Kazan. It was Alfred Hitchcock.
Passat - $16,998!
Oh wow I missed this when it aired. Brilliant way to take down the great director and hypocritical back stabber Elia Kazan.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 good
R.I.P.
Alan was so under used.
The list of names is about as funny as a grave.
😂❤👍😇🙏🏻
