A lot of students struggle with their expenses, I think it'll be nice to be ahead of yourself and just write a list of expenses you might have and do a quick math on it to see what's up, things like transportation fees, lunch fees, books you need to buy for your lectures, university fees and so on.
Its not her fault she's born into slightly better circumstances than many others but her struggles are going to be the same as other students she's just showing you how to be prepared it makes sense
@@trina415 I dont think this person meant it as a critique to Ruby, but rather as an extra advice, since Ruby herself has talked in the past about keeping up with her monthly expenses by wrinting them on notion.
Something I like to do before the academic year starts is plan out my "ideal week". So I'll put down all the moments where I have lectures/seminars and other appointments and then I plan around those: When am I going to do my reading or assignments? When do I want to go and workout? When will I hang with friends? When do I have time to clean/reset? It's not to say that I have to adhere to this "ideal week" every single week, nor is that absolutely possible, but it's really nice to sit down and be able to think what you'd want to do with your time. I think it's a nice way to see what your priorities, goals and intentions are for the next semester and it creates a tool to hold on to once the academic year starts :)
My second most given advice is setting a standard time that you use to unwind- something to look forward to. My partner and I call it anti-adulting night in post college life, but it is the same as a college student. Pick a time every week where you dedicate to not doing anything responsible or for self-care. Sometimes it’s just an hour on Sunday morning at the coffee shop reading a fun book, or it’s a few hours Wednesday evening to watch TV or a movie. This does a lot to reset your brain.
That time during August when I tend to spend slightly too much time watching your videos because I know school is going to start soon and autumn is going to start soon and I want to start my cozy season before than because I’m impatient is so otherworldly. As embarrassingly nerdy as it sounds, I am admittedly so excited to begin school and studying again and watching your videos makes me feel so much more pleasant about it because I don’t feel weird for enjoying studying. I like watching pieces of myself through other people, it is so comforting. And I love the little community of viewers to because you all seem so wonderful!! :D
“If my channel no longer serves you then I would encourage you to unsubscribe. I wouldn’t take it personally.” Wow you’re one of the most humble UA-camrs ever and I respect you for that
I would also schedule my (bi-) annual health checkups (dentist, gp, gynaecologist etc ) before the academic year starts. Also get your bike fixed, cleaned and checked. Another thing I would suggest is buying a bunch of birthday cards and stamps ahead of time and already make a list for Christmas/birthday gift ideas. These small things like going to the Post Office or finding gifts can cause a lot of stress when you don't have time.
I don't know if you'll see this but the playlist on screen at 7:37 is the exact one I've been listening to recently! was a nice surprise to see you were too :)
The only thing I see you missed Ruby was the importance of daily exercise. I wish I had known how much it would improve my life in my late teens/early 20s. We spend so much time in desks/ behind laptop screens/ TV screens/ tablets/ playing video games/ driving that we can forget to include it as part of our daily life. Good luck and the best of everything for those heading back this semester.
@@nony_mation I wasn't talking about Ruby I know she always shows herself going for walks and jogs. I just thought it made a fun edition to the list. One of those things I wish someone had told me post Secondary School, because it does get harder the older you get to fit exercise in.
I make my students do a mind map if they are lazy or if they are sat doing nothing. Or I ask them if they have anything else they can be doing as a mentor I think it’s important to keep them active during quiet times even if they may think I’m a bit of a cow I’m not, I’m just thinking of them In the long run
On your reset checklist you might want to arrange it in order od what to do. For example, first tide, then dust (top to bottom) and then vacuum/hoover. If you dust everything onto the ground when you've already vacuumed you'll have to vacuum again.
I did a clear out and found crayola washable as a very good calligraphy tool and affordable. But yeah as student, with a limited space, digital planners are the best bet but its not as sexy as paper crisp planners.
Definitely take a few hours to be totally offline and give yourself the space to think through all your priorities. Especially when it comes to non-academic things, what do you want to focus on in your life in terms of hobbies, skills, relationships, socializing, or spirituality? How do you plan to work that into your life on a daily/weekly basis?
I graduated this year meaning that this year marks the first time I will be out of education. I am currently looking for a job, but I do find this video helpful! Though I am not resetting for anything academic, but I adapted tips from this video to fit my own needs. Resetting just sets up a new routine and clean space for a better headspace :)
Before I started university, I used to get all my books organized and read them beforehand so that I would be well-prepared for the lectures. I even printed out my course syllabus and what stationeries which I needed so that I would be ready for my courses.
Working as a Polish teacher, being head teacher, im normally spending much time with my students at school. This encourage me to plan my weekend reading, i have approx.35 Saturdays to spend on reading, and to plan going outs on Sunday, like filharmony, theatres, cinema, some events which I can expect. Also some of my plans change due to some obvious every year seasonal school year duties, but we teachers should balance our growth and our students growth;)
I love your comment and how you are talking about purposefully focusing on enriching activities for yourself. Teachers are in one of the most demanding professions and especially need self care! I am always impressed by people who can communicate in more than one language - ignore the haters.

Hello Ruby, would you make a video on your Oxford readings? It would so lovely to see how you prepare the readings and what tricks you would use in case the reading is not easy. You could even rate the modules from least to most favorite! :D
One thing that I would recommend adding to the "Sunday Reset Routine" would be the creation of an offline backup of important folders/files on the computer, especially the ones concerning uni. I have been doing this with my main folders for quite a while now and found it to be a reasonable compromise between being "up-to-date" and "not-too-annoying".
Oh, Oxford looks so beautiful! I'm glad to be living vicariously through you once again. My dream life would be to be studying in a place like that, every day, FOREVER.
I like to make sure my shoes are polished. I have a perfume that I like - which is uplifting or comforting. Set up my planner. Clean and organise my space. Being an English literature teacher I 'm super curious to know something more about your modules at oxford. Hope u share something more detailed about them. I kinda sense a new adventure might be exciting and daunting at the same time and that you might feel a bit nervous but Knowledge is essential to keep anxiety at bay and ur a pro when it comes to organising, decluttering, resetting and the like. So be proud and enjoy your upcoming adventure in oxford. I wish u all the best ( only be careful when u go punting😂)
I would love you to make a video all about healthy eating at university: recipes, nutrition advice, how to make things, meal planning, shopping, meals, snacks...
this has literally come on the perfect day! i just got my schedule for the new school year, and i can't wait to start school and start learning in a classroom again
For setting up into a new school or just the season, I always like to make a list of books I would like to read. I don't necessarily have to finish them all (I do this every January, too) but just have a TBR list ready so in down time, I know what I want to pick from, rather than waste time staring at my bookshelves and getting overwhelmed in trying to pick something out. Same with making a personal to-do list; places I want to go, things I want to get done, even movies or shows I want to watch. Again, just to have ideas handy so I don't spend time dwelling on the decision and just get on with it, if that makes sense!
I do that too with the books I'd like to read thoughout the year. I prepare a little list on December and so when the time comes to pick a new read I consult that list. It saves up much time.
For a lot of people the paradox of choice and having so many options can be overwhelming and stressful. I love the strategy because you still do have some choice about what you want to read and flexibility but you still can be more intentional, rather than just quickly making an impulsive decision and wasting your time and then getting upset because it is stressing and overwhelming you. Awesome idea😊

I have a database on Notion where I keep recipes I've seen online and saved the link to the recipe and a photo of the dish. My page is set up as a few databases under different headings like breakfast, mains etc.
Great tips Ruby, thanks.
Thanks Ruby :) Now I have the motivation to actually *do* this stuff 😅
I love your videos and Ruby and have always wanted to purchase one of your planners, unfortunately to ship to Canada costs more than the price of the planner itself. Will this one be released online so I can download it instead? Keep up the great work Ruby :)))
This is a fantastic video! I cleaned out my work desk as I watched/listened :) Will you be doing first two weeks daily vlogs again when you head back to school? Just curious :)
Why everyone has such a problem with the title of this video? Guys, relax lol
Great video, Ruby! ❤
Wow, Just in time!
Hi, ruby! I'm interesting about the video device. Thank you!😊
