After testing this mod I can tell that I managed to have the same volume with the pedal both ON or Off, as I can anytime returne to previous settings with the volume boost. I didnt listen to any altering of the output sound. I am so happy with this mod!
would you be willing to do a tutorial video on how to do these mods? I've searched everywhere but have not found a single video, you could be the first!!! lots of views to be had for ya
Thanks. I did not know how to do it myself, and there is NADA on the web about how to do the volume pot. I'm sure Owen, at Owenelectronics will be more than happy to help. He also loves the WH10 as it happens - so he has a lot of time for improvements. You're right though, the boost is a PITA!
You have to get the spray inside the conical (circular tin shape) part of the pot. There are little gaps - get the nozzle or extension nozzle right into any one of the caps inside the circular tin and spray away!
If anyone is interested: the successor Ibanez Wah (called Weeping Demon WD7) already has a volume pot besides the Q sweep pot. I'm not sure if you can achieve the same sounds though, never tested them side by side.
yeah, you could remove it and put softer sponge in there like I mention in my video. You could also open the pedal up and raise the switch mechanically by 'screwing it up' higher...
Over extending how? There is a few more degrees of turn in the pot even after removing the foam. You'd be surprised how small the swing range is in a wah - especially this one. There is no danger of damage.
It's not what it's for anyway, I spoke to Kevin Wilson who makes the modified V2's, apparently it's there to stop the pedal from shorting out on the metal back plate.
nope - it's there just to soften the 'click' when you push down. Otherwise it would be too 'instant' if you see what I mean. It's the same with most wah pedals - they all have that little piece of sponge.
If you look the pot with the 3 lugs pointing at you and the rotary part looking at your face, the 1,2,3 lugs are named from left to the right. The first lug is supposed to be connected to Ground. I left it unsoldered and there is no problem. The second lug (middle) is connected to the jack output.(thats where the R30 was supposed to be connected before the mod) The third is connect to the circuit board output. (actually is connected to R30).
After searching and reading much stuff on the internet, I managed to do the volume pot mod this morning! It was hard to find the exact mod around, so I googled "how to put a volume pot in a pedal" or something like this that I dont remember to find a general solution on this volume boost "issue".
HI - no, you don't spray the long pole - there is no mechanical connection there (or very little anyway). Inside the pot there is a wiper and it goes across some wire coils. You have to spray inside the cylinder to get to it. There will be little holes in the cylinder, or just spray all around the cylinder and eventually some cleaner will get inside. You have to take the back of the pedal off, and also unscrew the PCB if you are having trouble. It's a pain the ass ass, but a labour of love...thx
With my second Ibanez WH10 I ran in the same problem as you did, as it doesn't touch the switch. But you've got it wrong: The cheap black plastic / rubber stripe is to be removed before use. At least I think that, cause when you look at the manual you can't see it there in the graphic. :) But before I got that, I made the block which touches the switch higher with tape haha :)
hmmm, I guess about £30-£40, inc. postage to Owen Electronics. The Wilson TenSpot II is an option too, but from what i've read and heard online, they don't seen identical.
It turned to be easy because the only thing to do is to solder a Potentiometer (I used 100k) at the Output part of the pedal and place it at the place of "dry out" jack. In my case, I have already done the TB mod so, I soldered the three lugs on the pot like this:
Can you make a video explaining where exactly to put contact cleaning spray in order to clean the pot and get rid of the scratches. I took the back plate off and I'm scared to unscrew the circuit board cause I'm not a technician...
Thanks for the reply! Do you mean I should get the nozzle underneath the circuit board at the side and try and get it into one of the little openings on the tin (which are very difficult to reach this way) cause I was advised elsewhere that I just need to spray the long iron pole-thing of the pot which is obviously in the middle when you take the pedal's back plate off...Awesome guitar btw! And it sounds great!
great mod! ...did you ever come across the blueprints for the volume mod? ...I want to do it my self here in canada cause it would take way to long to send to UK and back. ...I just cant find the plans anywhere online.
The DS2 is going into a Lovepedal Eternity clone, on a slightly overdriven setting. The DS2 needs to go into an overdriven amp or pedal for best tones (IMO)
I was always wondering why everybody complains about the volume boost...? I mean it has a purpose when you ad it to a solo during a song to stick a bit more out of everything... But now I realise that its only a problem for people who play in there living rooms alone. These pedals were made to play on stages. The Black ones made in the 90s dont have this boost. I never use it. only the grey 80s one.
This is true. You can always add an overdrive after it to solve this problem too. The main point is that as the boost increases, so does the sweep. It is important to keep it maxed for best effect
I recommend you write to Owen at Owenelectronics. He's a great guy and will let you know how to do it. There are no blueprints online that I know of... cheers
Does your unmodded WH10 bypass steal a good portion of volume (not only treble), too? When I plug my guitar directly into the amp the signal is stronger compared to the signal with the wh10 in the signal chain.
Hey man, I've heard I can lift a few Risitors or Caps to get better bypass tone? I want to do the TB mod but for now I was just wondering if you knew what the internet is talking about? Apperntly they are the Resistors and/caps that weren't in the original?
I think there is only a few little diodes that are added in the v2, but I did not hear the difference. Don't worry about it - the V2 is 99.9% the sound of the original
Hi , I tried to TB my wh10v2 by your script but the signal is working only when the pedal is OFF ( I cant hear anything when the pedal is ON ) . What col be the problem ? and how you coose the chronical numbers on the 3pdt switch ? TNX (sorry off the bad english..)
hi, i want to add true bypass to my V2, looking at it today, am i right in thinking im going to have to remove the input and output jacks from the board itself
think i can see another way now instead of removing the input and outputsI think I just create a link on the 3pdt where you would have the jack input and the board input, just link the pins
Nice vid, I am VERY interested in adding something similar to your volume control on my own wh10v2. You wouldn't be able to direct me to some resources regarding this would you? I love this pedal so much, but this volume boost has got to go.
Most of what you say in video is so true about this wah. Unfortunately I've had it with it.. it's annoyed me and disappointed me so much that instead of making the mods I just wanted to get rid of it and look for something else. If you add up the price of the mods to the price of the wah, it doesn't come too far off the price of the Ten Spot II.
You'd think they'd pick up on the pedals huge problems... I've sent my WH10v2 back, but it may not be refunded. If I'm stuck with it, I'm gonna get someone to modify it for me. I couldn't do it myself, don't trust myself.
Not sure... $240 (£157) for a ten spot II to the UK. £70-£80 for a WH10v2. £30-£40 for mods. I have £50 beer money spare, and a cooler looking wah, that is the real deal. Better for me on this maths.
It's probably just my laziness kicking in then. Ha! I'm so disappointed that they couldn't have done all of this in the original WH10v2.. I mean they're pretty noticeable problems..
it depends - this is what I say below: $240 (£157) for a ten spot II to the UK. £70-£80 for a WH10v2. £30-£40 for mods. I have £50 beer money spare, and a cooler looking wah, that is the real deal. Better for me on this maths. - but I get the feeling the ten spot will last longer... c'est le vie.
sorry mate - I just followed as per the diagram. I'm really not a technical person. You should sent it to a repair shop - it will only cost 10-30$ I guess.

Im pretty sure that foam is there to stop the pot from over extending, if you remove that it might damage it

You could dremmel the top of the switch for a mm or two, maybe? Tight fit for shure!

awesome! i need that volume mod, almost bursts my ear drums with the ds2 and big muff behind mine

Great Video and great sound man :) But, What do you think about the Wilson Ten Spot Wah II ?

Thanks for the video, what is the name for that foam so I can find it to buy. Thanks
Nice solo tone man! Besides wh-1 and ds2, what equipment you used to do this recording?
hey! i just bought one and that black thing behind the switch don't let me turning off! should i remove it?
Does your unmodded WH10 bypass steal a good portion of volume (not only treble), too? When I plug my guitar directly into the amp the signal is stronger compared to the signal with the wh10 in the signal chain.
can't remember how bad it sucked tone when it was unmoved - it was pretty severe though
Hey man, I've heard I can lift a few Risitors or Caps to get better bypass tone? I want to do the TB mod but for now I was just wondering if you knew what the internet is talking about? Apperntly they are the Resistors and/caps that weren't in the original?

Mine distorts intermittently while playing, should it do that. Or does it have to do with the volume boost?

so how exactly is the volume knob put in and works? thanks.
Where can we buy a new one pot? Cant find the same around the web.
like putting the true bypass?
you could put this pedal true bypass (ibanez wah10v2)??
My WH10V2 becomes quieter when the pedal is pushed down to a very specific level, any idea what it could be?
Same issue here
how much did the mods cost you alone?
You'd think they'd pick up on the pedals huge problems...
I've sent my WH10v2 back, but it may not be refunded.
If I'm stuck with it, I'm gonna get someone to modify it for me.
I couldn't do it myself, don't trust myself.
I love john frusciante, I love his wah, I love this wah, I love your wah, I love u for this video and thank you u for making it!!!! :))))))
see in my video description for a link
Hello Mr.Turboparrot, I'll send an email to owenelectronics, i really need that volume mod for improve this pedal. Thanks alot.

Yeah, it's a damn shame people can't think to innovate a little every now and again. Who's working for them anyway, right?!
de-oxit on the potentiometer, or a new potentiometer
could be a bad potentiometer. I'm no expert.
yes, this one has been TB'd. see the link

dunno - ask Owen at Owen Electronics. Everybody just ask Owen at Owen at Electronics... LOL
