Just got mine from reverb.com didn’t come in the best of shape, but your videos I hope, will bring it back to perfect working order. Thank you Dave, cheers!!
i'm definitely having some trouble fixing mine all the way, in the toe down position it makes an odd sound especially on high gain settings, and also when going back and forth it makes some weird sounds. not sure if maybe that's just part of this wah or the pot is really a bit dirty. update: I was able to completely remove the scratchy sound when rocking which was annoying. however there's still a bit of a 'decay' sound when the toe is put all the way down. it's kind of like when you use a digital reverb or delay with a high gain setting, that sound. sort of like a scratch. i think it's the pot being dirty. i tried using some duster on just the lever, which immediately put dust in the pot and made it worse. but when i cleaned it with both contact cleaner and compressed air, it took away most problems aside from the toe down scratching. so hopefully i can fix it! thanks again for everything :)
Gday Dave, I have wh10 v1 and I've been following all the steps you've shown until it comes the board removal. I try to move it up and to the right but it seems like the dry out doesn't want to move (yes I removed the nut) and I'm too scared to use more force. Have you encountered this issue before? Thanks, joe
Not with the v2 but its possible, because the v1 is plastic the casing could of shrunk around the jack. As a result i'm not really sure how to remove it.
I hate messing around with circuit boards but it's gotta be done!!!! Great vid and can we expect more on the maintenance side of gear? Plus when are you going to do more periscope?
+smiley42 Unfortunately it does. Especially with the WH-10. You can expect more of these videos very soon indeed. As for periscope, I'm not sure if I'm going to carry it on or not. Theres not a great deal of interest. We'll see. Thanks for watching. :)
so my pedal is only making the scratchy sound in the toe down position. i was able to clear up the scratching when moving the pedal but not this. any ideas?
Hey, I want you to do me favor, that would be great. So, from my ibanez wah pedal, a mysterious spring fell off and I don't know if it's from the pedal or just some random spring. What I'm trying to ask here is where to put that spring. I would like to see your response to this. Thank you for reading this(If you did)
useful vid, thanks bro. I'm having an issue with my V2 (and i'm not sure if it's just dirty pots); lately when i play it and rock it back and forth my sound (not just the wah-sound but ALL of it) sometimes disappears for a split of a second. This happened mainly in the toe-position. Could this have to do with the pots being dirty or something with the switch? Since you seem to know this pedal pretty well, do have any idea?
I'd say try to spray it like in the video. For me it didn't do anything so I'm getting it checked out this week. I'll post it here when I know what's up with it. Really hoping it's not a broken pot. The pots in these pedals are immensely hard to find online..
I've got some bad news. Me and my tech opened the pot up; due to bad soldering from Ibanez' part the pot got messed up. So I'm afraid your pot is broken too:( If the problem isn't so bad yet with your pedal, STOP USING IT IMMEDIATELY and get someone to look at it. The rocking motion is making it worse! I totally agree with Dave on the fact that this pedal is just not really well built. Gonna get another one though, they just sound too good..
tried this on wh10v3 with air duster and it helped a but but didn't fix. i'm going to try when the contact cleaner comes. also the v3 has a zip tie on one of the four screw legs that i think is keeping me from taking circuit board all the way off. but i was still able to lift it up enough to get nozzle in. hopefully i can get it to sound as good as the optical wah with no pot/switch that i've been using as replacement!
Hey Dave. If it ever goes bad again please make a video of how it sounds so we can compare. Mine works fine in the up and down position but when im passing through and im kinda in the middle im hearing a hsss - broken cable/weird white noise thing. Is this what you are trying to fix here?
that is what he's trying to fix, i was able to fix that using compressed air and contact cleaner. it's important to keep the pots and the pedal itself clean as it can get to a point you'll have to take apart the pot. i found that after having my pedal returned from ibanez with the pot cleaned (switch replacement) it took just a couple weeks to get the pot dirty again.
I just got mine from Japan today and the on/off switch seems to be very sensible... or maybe it’s just me stepping on it too hard? But still it just feels wrong.
Where does the spring go? I have the v3 and when my switch went out I took it apart and this tiny little spring with a couple weird bends fell out of it from nowhere and I have no idea where it went. Dave please help, I'm desperate to get my beloved wah going again!!
I have a problem with activating the pedal when pressing, the bottom rubber is hard. Is very hard for pres. rubber more small, cut the rubber 1/2, please one solution. Thank
Hey Dave, only one question, have u ever had a problem with wh10 or any other pedal, when i plug in power supply pedal has power, but as soon as i plug in input cable it loses power ?? (no problem with output). Thank u very much.
HI Dave, Have you ever had the pedal always on even when you switch it off ? when I want to come back to the clean sound, wah wah less, I still have a little bit of wah wah on and its so annoying because I dont have my normal guitar sound anymore... any experience or solution about it ? thanks by advance !
Hey Dave, I love your videos. I have an original WH10 that I had stashed away for 20 yrs and forgotten about until your Frusciante vid ringed a bell.., took it out yesterday, it switches on but the only thing i hear when I move the pedal is the clean sound with changing volume, no wah effect... any ideas? Thanks man.
Thank you very much indeed. Argh. That doesnt sound healthy. I would take it to a guitar tech and get it looked at. It could be a few things. Thank you again for watching and i hope you get it sorted. :)
great vid man. Thanks! I ran into a problem, while i was taking out all the screws (including the very long one that goes across the pedal) a spring fell out. its about an inch size spring. And I have no clue where it came from. Anyone have an idea to where this spring goes? Thank you
@Dave Simpson All good man no worries. My fault, should've been more careful, but I'm a drummer sooo... haha I found out where it goes.. weird cause i couldn't see it in your video but a friend of mine also has this pedal and showed me a photo of it. it goes with the long rod that runs across the pedal... Thanks again man, love your videos and most especially your playing.. wish you were in LA Californi to jam. Chilli peppers and JF are prob my biggest musical influencers🤙🤙 be well dude🙏
hey Dave, ever had this problem with your Vox V847? I recently bought one used and it came in today with one big issue: it always makes loud scratchy noises when rocking it back and forth. The guy who sold it to me said he would take it back and now I'm wondering if a brand new pedal would suffer from the same problem after a while... Whats your experience with the Vox? Thanks! :)
I have indeed had this issue but a quick clean with servisol normally sorts it. But they always make some kind of noise regardless. especially the old spec ones like the VOX. :)
It's to properly boil water. You ever heard the song smoke on the water? It's in reference to the pots used to boil whatever water used for their coffees that day. To write good music.
dave heellllp! my wh10 has a serious problem , and i dont know what else to do . Whenever i turn it on , the sweep does not engage as if its stuck rocked all the way forward . and even if i try to rock it back and forth the sweep is barley noticeable . i dont know if its the depth control pot or the main pot or the sodering . hopefully you might have an idea or anyone else here in the comments. plz if you do , help me out on the quicks :'(
ARGH. Sounds like the depth dial on the site has gone but could be the main pot as well. I would say take it to a tech and get them to have a look. ITs hard to tell whats exactly up with it without seeing it in person.
+Dave Simpson , lol great news dave . i opened it up to give it one last look and the problem was pretty simple , inside where the footprint meets the pot (main one) and the long rod coming out of the pot. it wasnt tightend around it so it wasnt griping and articulating . maaaan what a headache . thanks tho dave , keep up the vids 👍
Great video. I have one of these pedals. How often do you maintenence yours? Maybe you said, and i didn't hear. I'm sure you don't wait until you hear the crackling noises. Maybe you do. 😊
Hey dave, grest video massive help for future reference. My WH10 recently decided to just stop working, one day it was fine then the next it wasn't. Power supply doesn't work and neither does a battery, I'm unsure of electronics. Also the switch is so sensitive, the rubber pad underneath came off and since then the pedal switches on and off so easily I have to be careful the way I use the wah, is there an alternative?
HEI dave, thanks for rhe vid! I wanna ask u some advices about The true bypass mod of this wha, canse i know it can be difficult because of the small space inside! can u male a vid or something?
Thanks so much Dave, i thought this pedal was destined for the great wah wah graveyard in the sky, but its fully back to life now ! thanks again

Would this be the same as electronic cleaner spray?
so my pedal is only making the scratchy sound in the toe down position. i was able to clear up the scratching when moving the pedal but not this. any ideas?
Would polish help stop the scratch

Thank you very much. :) I've never experienced that i'm afraid so i'm not sure what it could be. I would get it checked out by a tech if you can. :)
yeah talked to the guy who modded it for me, he said it had to be dirt in the pots. Gonna follow your video and hopefully it'll work:)

Getting this wah on monday! I think I will get it bypassed.
+Henri Länsivuori I think thats wise. :)
Is it easy to make these true bypass? And fix the volume boost?
It is, but why would you want to. :)
@ tone sucker
Great instruction vid ... thanks!
+Matze R Thank you for watching. :)
I would recommend you take the rubber strip off I did at first I got worried because I could turn it on too easy and off too easy but it's easier
bro, my ibanez wh 10 v2 sound like distord and the button switch is very sensible, how can i fix it :c
Thanks man great vid!

Hi, i bougth a wh10 recently and dont know why when i turn it on volume increases, did you have the same problem?
I have a video on this problem on my channel. :)
what u prefer
WH-10 or WH-10v2
tnx!
I've never had the pleasure of trying an original so i can't honestly tell you. Thank you for watching. :)
Ok! An other cuestion, where u buy this pedal? Is a worth 4 the price?

@@Hodgey23 in the same boat myself lol my wahs really dirty in the ports and the circuit boards in the way so I cant clean it might just buy a new one
@@nathanadnitt it's annoying when this stuff happens but I'll be sure to either sort it or get a new pedal sometime I think.

+Mauro Rizzato Hi there. I haven't actually looked into the true bypass mod as I barely really use this pedal any more but I'll see what I can do. :)
how about using it in a true bypass loop instead? or is the output level different enough that it would be a problem?
John probably would of just delt with the scratch sound especially because he used the original grey wh10
It's worrying if your gonna bend the led light
what a pain in the Ace!!! lol. all stick with the dunlop.. lol
Those can get messed up too. I've had the same experience with them.
