Amen! Thinking for themselves is the number 1 skill the children need in this communication age.

Great tips on how to work with middle schoolers. I have 3 right now :) And I need to remember some of these things.

My youngest is also a 6th grade boy. I've enjoyed your experienced perspective on homeschool. Every year has different challenges and one that we're having is the growing in independence for my son. We are both struggling to know what he can be independent with and what he needs my instruction or help on. That and managing strong emotions. He'll say that he doesn't like school and I try not to be offended. My 8th grade daughter has a similar attitude. I think it comes from the struggle that they experience in learning. Anything new is hard and it's especially frustrating with math. Math-U-See has been going well for my 2 younger students this year. Time management for my 16 & 14 year old daughters is a huge struggle. I hope my son is seeing this and learning. But consistency is very hard around our house. Any tips you have on that would be great!!

First I have to say that these years draw you closer to God 🙏
I’m starting to see emotions also. I have realized there are certain times of the day that I know he does best with the hard things. I can be more flexible with what is easier. Emotions are hard. There were times when I had everyone home it helped to find a read aloud that focus on someone doing hard things and read scripture. Yes my teens loved this time. I have boys so I know emotions are different. Also this time of year is hard. If possible get out and walk, go to library, find an audio everyone will listen to, find a routine where there might be something to look forward to😉 I hope that makes sense. It will look different for everyone ❤️🙏

My daughter just finished week 17 of this same guide with HOD. We are both loving it! We discovered it thanks to one of your videos last year.

Very encouraging! I definitely would like my 11yo to start thinking about how to solve things on his own. He has the tools, just needs to practice accessing them!

Yes that is where we are at. It is a process that takes patience and consistency and prayer 😊

My son is 10 and will be in 6th grade next year. Your videos have been so helpful. I’m finding with my son his learning style is much different than it was for my two older girls.

Hello, just found your channel while searching for 6th grade history curriculum! My name is also Rachel and I also have 4 boys! My oldest is in 5th grade, my older two are in public school but I really want to pull them out and homeschool next year. I’m doing some research and seeing what might work best

I'm contemplating how my daughter is on her last semester of 8th grade - I don't even know how that happened! It starts going faster and faster.... GAH! I'll only have high schoolers next year!

Please pray for us. We had a serious car accident on Christmas Day night. My husband is having very intense deliblating headaches and is having a shunt put in. I broke my back in two places and I have to step away from homeschooling for a season.

Oh Jenny I am so sorry!!! Praying for healing and comfort!! Psalm 61:1-2 “Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.
From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”

I have always wanted to try HOD. But my son’s a 6th grade but he’s not on level ( with public school ) but he’s on his level if that makes sense.
How would I know where to put him in HOD. He doesn’t even write stories well

heartofdakota.com/placement/. Scroll down to Hearts with Him through Time. I would also order catalog 😉 something to consider is how is his comprehension??
I have done with boys that have not mastered cursive. In the beginning I would write their narration on white board for them to copy. We will read a lot together😉
As they progressed we would work toward the independence.
Another thing to consider is are you looking at HOD for history or the whole box curriculum 😉❤️🙏

My 8th grader needs something her freshman year for geography that has a lot of map work. Anything you would suggest?

Ok I am just sharing some things I have looked into- but I do love geography and maps!!🤗
Of course we use HOD world geography in 9th grade. They use as one of the spines “Mapping the World with Art” very good book even on its own. I have looked at Memoria Press’ Geography 3, it says for grade 7+, but I am not sure that either of these book “mapping the world or Memorias would be 1 credit by itself😉 They could be added onto a world history. I know Notgrass has a new one but it doesn’t look like a lot of mapping🤷🏻‍♀️

@@learningwithboys7431 I used Geography from Notgrass with my son, and it had very very little mapping.

A good supplement might be the Map The World series.
