This is the song I always remember for the Carousel of Progress. It reflects on the idea that each generation thinks they lived in the best times, the good old days if you will...
fun fact: a version of this song is what was heard on Main Street USA after announcing the park was closing on September 11th 2001. it wasn't intentional, it just happened to be the next song on the playlist at the time.
This is the version I remember, from my first trips to Disney as a kid in the late '70s. Sounds to the modern ear like it's Kevin Spacey singing, even though it's not! Interestingly, they still play the instrumental to this in Tomorrowland (I heard it today) even though the song was pulled from the ride ages ago.
This was the superior version. I love its message that the good-old-days weren't so good. And I love how it points out the fallacy that now is the best time. It's the future that we can look forward to.
I prefer "Great, Big Beautiful Tomorrow", but this one still features that wonderful and grand parade-like quality that's in the original song and so I think they would compliment each other. I see people here saying they wish this song was still in use. Why not add this as a little Easter Egg to the background audio of the show in the first segment to have an old radio? I would love to hear this side by side with "Great, Big, Beautiful Tomorrow" on the ride. They would make a great team of songs. Besides, I think this carries a good message for kids. "Now is the best time of your life!". Yes. You are young and shouldn't have too many responsibilities. You are free to run wild in your imagination, no holds barred. Do not take it for granted. This coupled with "Great, Big, Beautiful Tomorrow", a message of a hopeful future (secretly a song about Walt and his achievements) would be an extremely positive message for audiences... and the songs have many of the same elements in common in the rhythm and tempo, so it would not be jarring to hear both, one after the other.
Considering the Sherman Brothers wrote this for GE instead of Walt, this is the probably the best industrial musical song ever made. Still doesn’t beat “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow”. :P
I love that this is still in the Tomorrowland music loop. I love that version more than this, I prefer Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow in the show itself because it's the original song that Walt loved
I prefer this because its more catchy and i feel like it means just be happy your alive and remember all the fun times you had as a kid and the “but tomorrow is still but a dream” i think means you will never know exactly what will come
I like both but I am partial to the time of your life, but just because that is the first presentation I saw and the song was so catchy that driving all the back to Vermont myself and my two young daughters sang it almost all the way back, practically drove their mother crazy.
This is the one I grew up with so I kind of miss it when I see the CoP these days. I didn't grow up with "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" and even though I know it was the original and "Walt's version" I kind of wish they'd use this one again. I think it actually ran longer with this version than Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (before they brought the latter back in the 2000's)
The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow version actually existed longer because the Carousel of Progress had that from 1964-1973 to 1993-present day. The current version of the ride was opened on November 1993. Some changes have been made to the animatronics and props since Nov. 1993, but it's still the same version.
+Kansas King #99 Yeah I wasn't very clear in what I meant... I meant the original run of Great Big Beautiful vs the original (only?) run of "The Best Time...". Now that Great Big Beautiful has been back for many years, it's definitely longer.
I DID grow up with great big beautiful tomorrow, and I still prefer this one. Disney needs to show some respect to the Sherman Brothers and replace the Carousel of Progress at Disneyland to this song.
imagine walking down Main Street on 9/11/01 they had just announced the park was closing early, and the first song right after the announcement was...this one (I wasn't there in person but heard that it did in fact happen. and no it wasn't intentionally played, it just happened to be the next song on the playlist.
This wouldn't (most likely) be playing in main street. It would play in Tomorowland. Not main street. I mean im not saying its impossible, But it seems Improbable

Andrew Duggan who voiced the role of the Father in this version of COP does the lead vocal. He plays the President (and his double) in the spy spoof "In Like Flint" (1967).
I remember hearing this song when I went to Disneyland the first time as a kid with my family around 1975. It stuck in my head all the years. When I went to Disney world in 2010 I was hoping to hear it again, but I believe it was replaced by the hall of presidents...or I just couldn't find the attraction.

Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow, was the one the Shermans' originally wrote for the attraction. It was replaced with this one in 1973 when the GE sponsors decided to that they wanted people to buy their stuff now, and was changed back when they left the sponsorship.
This is the version I heard when I went to WDW as a kid in 1978 and 1981. I guess it was also still the version I heard during a 1991 trip. I prefer it to TAGBBT, but that's probably because it was part of my original experience.
