Hey Josh thanks for the videos. I am a low hour pilot up in Paso Robles. I hope you enjoyed your time on the Central Coast. Great videos. I love the instruction you provide. Great stuff.
Hi Josh. I enjoy all your videos, including your epic adventures, and lessons in maintaining proficiency. But I also enjoyed seeing this simple VFR flight, how you teach, and listen to you talking through everything! All while enjoying the beautiful scenery there in CA. Thanks.
Josh, a big HELLO from CYQT. 🇨🇦👋 WOW .. absolutely LOVE your videos. Love the narration, how you draw us in, like we are all in the plane experiencing the flight with you.👍👍 As a student pilot with 54 hours I really appreciate and enjoy how you go thru ALL your check lists. At times you give a brief explanation of why you did something, or the importance and significance of a step in the check list and if missed how it could negatively effect the flight ... or the order in which you did it and the importance of that ... all the way from planning, preflight to tie down and every thing in between. Look forward to future videos. ALWAYS entertaining, enjoyable and educational. THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge of General Aviation to the world and helping us become better and safer pilots! 👍🇨🇦👍
if I remember the Cessna has a crosswind limitation of 17 Kts! We pilots knew he will never do it. In fact the 172 take off speed is at 55 Kts so if you have a 48 kt nose wind for example you are only 7 kts from your takeoff! Think about it!
I’m a retired trial lawyer, so I dealt with some bizarre personalities. I watch these videos to observe how nice people interact with each other. What a great example you set for actual civil society. Thank you and marry the girl soon. It took me three tries to get the right one and I note Chelsea is one of the “right” ones. Make it soon. She’s too valuable to dither. Apologies for the personal observation; nobody’s business but yours. However, time is of the essence.
Thank you for all these fantastic videos. It is always a pleasure to be taken along on your adventures. I also learn a lot on my personal path to IFR. Best regards from Bavaria
I used to work right across the street from this airport and would have drinks at Spirit of San Luis several times a week with the buds. Welcome to SLO!
Nice video! Remember doing this quick hop myself with the Caravan for a FedEx Feeder. Thank you for inspiring me for my own aviation journey that started years ago. Safe flying!
You couldn't ask for a more perfect Aviation video or a more conscientious Pilot. I learned a lot here. You & Chelsea are a perfect Couple - happy & safe Flying to you both. TY.
This was a spectacular video of a short evening flight up the coast to SLO. I did my "long XC" from Napa County Airport to SLO back in 1975 when I was a high school kid learning to fly. Hope you return to California and further explore the northern part of the state, in and around the Bay Area. Some of my best flying memories are "sunset" flights over the coast, the GG Bridge, esp. when the scattered clouds and fog roll in. What a superb "training video" on checklists. I see too many that don't use them or simply go by memory.
Fabulous video Josh! I think I enjoyed this video the most of all of yours in this series so far! What a scenic flight with some excellent views! I hope you’re enjoying your time in California and I will see you semi soon at Oshkosh!! 😃 Cool! 😎 Cheers 🥂 Caleb’s Aviation 😊
I lived at Avila Camper Park off Highway 101 back in the 1970's. One morning before classes at Cal Poly. I heard aircraft in the distance and heard some kind of crash. There was a midair collision a few miles North around South Higuera road. I drove up there and climbed the hill West of 101 and saw airplane parts on the hill. I saw rescue vehicles arrive and pointed them toward the area with the aircraft parts on the hill. That was a weird morning. I don't know what happened but the event got stuck in my mind. It's a beautiful area.
This was a most enjoyable video. I used to live in Pismo Beach and I can’t believe how much it’s grown since I left. Trivia! I don’t know if you know it or not but when they filmed the movie The Spirit of St. Louis, it was the Santa Maria Airport they used to show Lindberg taking off from the West Coast. I haven’t been near the cockpit of a plane in probably 40 years. Wow! The displays are beautiful. Thank you for such a beautiful video.
Great video, Josh! I started my flight training at SBP with Eric Paton in his Cessna 150G while I was an engineering student at the university there. One of the most beautiful places I have ever lived. It’s such a privilege to be able to fly out there for sure
With that title I though you were about to tackle 48kt winds! It's always great to see the aviation community coming together, and glad the airplane is safe.
We went to US last year for a family vacation and I kept thinking about a chance to catch up with Josh. But, I was not going to Texas. So, I wiped the idea of my mind. watching this video makes me realise that we may have been in (or near) LA around the same time. Family was telling me that California (or at least LA) had not been hit with this kind of weather for a long time. the weather event makes me believe that we may have been around the same area around the same time. We arrived in LA on the 22nd March 2023 and it was raining with a lot of wind. It makes me feel happy and proud that I may have been near the Aviation101 team. 🤩 Thank you for this series of videos. Landscape looks so nice.
The Spirit of San Luis restaurant, great Bloody Mary's and good food. Ember in Arroyo Grande, has great food too. The chef/owner use to work at Chez Panisse for Alice waters in Berkley, CA that started the Farm to table movement. Sorry, I like food. haha
The first racing school I worked for used the kart track at the Santa Maria Airport every now and then. Brings back memories. Appreciate the amazing content you create and thank you for pushing us pilots to always strive to do better 🍻
I landed a twin in CYUL (Montreal) with 58kts winds. Thankfully it was almost straight down runway 24. Actually made for a beautiful landing. Enjoy your videos. Keep them coming.
Great video! I was born in SLO and spent my childhood in Arroyo Grande; the area is so beautiful after some good rains. I had to laugh a little bit about your 'nice long runway' comment, considering most of my landings at SLO have been in the left seat of jets 😀 Thanks for sharing 👍
I just found your site and the video of flying into SLO, so had to follow along with your video and description. I started flying in SLO in 1953 as San Luis was then my home town. That airport has sure changed! For the better for sure. I'm no longer current but definitely still an aviation nut. Now days my hangar is at Ranchaero Airport (CL56) next to Chico, CA. I still have my Fairchild PT-26 which a couple friends fly for me. If you are this way please say hello!
Okay, is it just me or does it sound like a proposal may be coming! Love your vids Josh! There so inspiring, educational, and breathtaking! Keep it up!
Great seeing you discuss all procedures. Fun seeing you flying in my old turf when I was at Cal Poly and got my PPL at SLO airport in '83 and aerobatics training at Santa Maria.
Checklists are a good idea for lots of professions, not just flying! I have been in software development for 25+ years and I still use checklists for some things just to be sure I don't forget something critical.
You identified that the C130’s wake would drift right but did not act on that info. If the crosswind is low and/or my departure is soon after a large aircraft’s departure I request a dogleg towards the incoming wind direction to make sure their wake and my plane do not intersect.
Hey Josh, great video as always, very instructional. I'd like to start video recording with voice for later self debrie. Any suggestions for camera and mount? I just need one to record the flight instruments and windshield view.
Another beautiful edited video. Settling in a new home? Is what I have been waiting for coming true? Safe travels. And thank you for your support on my Story.
I'm an old, doddering ancient fossil CFI based at KSBP, and you wisely avoided those 48 knot winds. Personally, the Skyhog's mushy, sloppy control response is the stopper: Gust tips you, you crank in full opposite aileron lock and wait until the plane rights itself, while you hear control cables banging in the wings and fuselage with every move of the yoke. I probably wouldn't go out in those conditions in anything less responsive than my Mooney.
Hi, I enjoyed the thoroughness of your digital checklist...is the list generic, or did you customize a stock list? I rent a similar skyhawk...minus the glass panel. I enjoy your videos and the thoughtful planning to produce quality. Cheers!
I only wish that I could have done what you can do at your age. I was working 60 hour weeks with two jobs. I hope you appreciate how lucky you and Chelsea are to be able to experience this when you are that young.
Way back when I got as close as Paso Robles on a student xc. Always wanted to fly in that area. Particularly Oeano, and Santa Ysabel if I recall. (Near Solvang)
Just yesterday we landed in 47 knot winds. We were on final for what felt like 10 minutes. It felt like we were barely moving over the ground, like 50 knots groundspeed at 2400 rpm. The planes pointed into the wind on the ramp looked like they were trying to take off. Wild stuff.
I got my license at the SLO airport with about 100 hours in that local area. It truely is God's country. Didn't have a tower back in my day. The FBO really didn't exist back then either. What a difference. I think that I was the last person to take off from the campus airport with a tractor pull unit sitting in the middle of the runway. What memories.
Hey Josh thanks for the videos. I am a low hour pilot up in Paso Robles. I hope you enjoyed your time on the Central Coast. Great videos. I love the instruction you provide. Great stuff.
It’s a BEAUTIFUL area! Thanks for watching. Fly safe 🫡
Josh - Outstanding video and absolutely cannot wait for the next one. I really love the way you use the word "our" when talking about your future.
What do you think he wants to do? Get engaged (finally)?
Hi Josh. I enjoy all your videos, including your epic adventures, and lessons in maintaining proficiency. But I also enjoyed seeing this simple VFR flight, how you teach, and listen to you talking through everything! All while enjoying the beautiful scenery there in CA. Thanks.

THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge of General Aviation to the world and helping us become better and safer pilots! 👍🇨🇦👍
Always love the relaxed flight videos! Thanks for continuing to make them :)
And I was hoping we were about to see Josh take on 48kn winds!!
clickbait
Clearly, the guy's a wimp! I'm ashamed for him. I never fly unless it's 50 kts direct cross wind; but, I'm a real man.
@@craiglachman1379 I look up to you 🙌🏼
i think hes a smarter pilot than that i guess it was click bait that looked like a silky smooth flight
if I remember the Cessna has a crosswind limitation of 17 Kts! We pilots knew he will never do it.

So cool! I live in Santa Maria and I’ve been watching your videos for a long time! Never thought you’d fly into our tiny little airport!
I’m a retired trial lawyer, so I dealt with some bizarre personalities. I watch these videos to observe how nice people interact with each other. Turns out he already did back in February and kept it a secret until now :)
I'm on my third try and I am not forty yet :D
I'm on zero tries. A good girl and marriage is a fantasy
Thank you for all these fantastic videos. It is always a pleasure to be taken along on your adventures. I also learn a lot on my personal path to IFR.

I used to work right across the street from this airport and would have drinks at Spirit of San Luis several times a week with the buds. Welcome to SLO!
Had an alternator failure there and had to stay the night. Beautiful FBO everyone there is super helpful and professional.
TY.
Damn what a great landing! Props to Bryan for letting you use that hangar, the FBO was absolutely stunning.

I think a MAJOR hint got dropped at the end there…….. 💍
They're fleeing Commifornia while they still can I reckon.
We are all focused on her left hand in these videos, just hoping to get a glimps!!
I hope so, I have been waiting for that moment 💍 for many years.
Sounded pretty obvious didn't it. Don't disappoint Josh!
A101 followers literally only want 1 thing and it's this.
No longer but "flying" with you on this short hop made my day!
Each new video sets my mood for the day to GREAT, Thank You!

Thank you for such a beautiful video.
They filed The Rocketeer at Santa Maria Airport, too.

I flew with Eric too. Nice guy
Hi Josh! Another high-quality video. I doubt there are better videos out there than yours. Amazing.
Awesome video! at 14:35 that was a very smooth landing... 👍 I like these glasscockpit-Cessnas. It seems for me Skyhawks are immortal... 😉
With that title I though you were about to tackle 48kt winds! It's always great to see the aviation community coming together, and glad the airplane is safe.
That might have been one of the greasiest landings I’ve seen!!! Holy crap. Beautiful flight my bro:)
We went to US last year for a family vacation and I kept thinking about a chance to catch up with Josh. But, I was not going to Texas. Thanks for that! That’s the goal, all while trying to be a better pilot myself with each flight. 🍻
I landed a twin in CYUL (Montreal) with 58kts winds. Thankfully it was almost straight down runway 24. Actually made for a beautiful landing. Enjoy your videos. Keep them coming.
Yeah but trying to taxi the aircraft back to parking is the big issue
That landinggggg 🧈
Great video! I was born in SLO and spent my childhood in Arroyo Grande; the area is so beautiful after some good rains. I had to laugh a little bit about your 'nice long runway' comment, considering most of my landings at SLO have been in the left seat of jets 😀 Thanks for sharing 👍
On your short final to KSPB, you few over Tolosa winery. I hope you got a chance to try our their great wines.
big stuff coming!
Beautiful avionics .. I just flew a GyroPlane from Santa Barbara to San Luis Obispo on 8/8..
Great video, as usual. Looking forward to the next one and news of where you are going to live for a couple of years.
I just found your site and the video of flying into SLO, so had to follow along with your video and description. I started flying in SLO in 1953 as San Luis was then my home town. I need this man as my flight instructor
Right?
Okay, is it just me or does it sound like a proposal may be coming! Love your vids Josh! There so inspiring, educational, and breathtaking! Keep it up!
Great content, as usual! Best luck to both of you on the adventures to come!!
I’ve lived in Santa Maria since the 80s and I currently work in SLO. For fun, I would occasionally fly to work and park at ACI when I owned my Piper.
ACI is super nice!
Wow, beautiful airport scenery with a beautiful FBO. Double win.
Glad I found this channel. Very nice
Josh, awesome video!
Take care, be safe, and fly safe….
Great seeing you discuss all procedures. Fun seeing you flying in my old turf when I was at Cal Poly and got my PPL at SLO airport in '83 and aerobatics training at Santa Maria.
Love to See the MT ANG C 130's make a UA-cam appearance!
Nicely done. Nicely done indeed--from start to finish.
Thank you 🙏
that was a darn good landing!
I learned to fly at KSBP. Such a stunning area!
Good morning from Minnesota!! Oooooooo can't wait for the next episode!!😊
Im currently taking lesson at slo aiport, loving it so far, great area for flying
Checklists are a good idea for lots of professions, not just flying! I have been in software development for 25+ years and I still use checklists for some things just to be sure I don't forget something critical.
Did my first intro flight at KSBP many years ago! I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work! Though, I found the title a bit misleading. :)
I flew N7290J out of Santa Maria just after you took off. I go up for short flights all the time when the clouds are dramatic like that.
A look toward Morro Rock & Bay departing KSBP is beautiful. Be sure to capture that on your next flight there. Great job capturing the scenery.
My home field! Most of my training hours came out of SLO. Family still lives there 😁
You identified that the C130’s wake would drift right but did not act on that info. If the crosswind is low and/or my departure is soon after a large aircraft’s departure I request a dogleg towards the incoming wind direction to make sure their wake and my plane do not intersect.
Wow, it's really good. It's very attractive and the AD is very interesting
Thank you !
As always a good video. God's blessings to Josh and Chelsea. Don
Oh boy, I know what’s coming. You’re finally going to ask her to go steady 😂😂😂
Great video! and 👍on your landing, just subscribed so looking forward to your next video.
Hey Josh, great video as always, very instructional. I'd like to start video recording with voice for later self debrie. Any suggestions for camera and mount? I just need one to record the flight instruments and windshield view.

Safe travels. And thank you for your support on my Story.
Thanks Mike! I appreciate the kind words and the support.
I'm love the views from your plane. I always wanted to fly but age and health stops me so i live it though videos any yours are the best thank you.
Smooth landing.
Josh great flying. Love your videos… major hint dropped
Excellent technical video. More like this please

G,day from Sydney Australia. New windshield in the 150 and all taped for painting. What's in the panel; steam gauges or glass?
🌏🇦🇺
Hi, I enjoyed the thoroughness of your digital checklist...is the list generic, or did you customize a stock list? I rent a similar skyhawk...minus the glass panel. I enjoy your videos and the thoughtful planning to produce quality. Cheers!
You greased this one!! Very nice….
Awesome! best aviation channel on the tube
i go plane spotting at SBP and SMX! i even recognize the ATCs voice at SBP, lol
Another great video! Awesome work !
Flying in California is so beautiful. Reminds me of my x country for PPL. KCMA-KSMX-KSBP.
@11:43 What does he mean by 'it's alright, I have got the runway in sight'? is it because the carb heat reduces the performance?
I only wish that I could have done what you can do at your age. I was working 60 hour weeks with two jobs.
I hope you appreciate how lucky you and Chelsea are to be able to experience this when you are that young.
Love you J!!!
Way back when I got as close as Paso Robles on a student xc. Always wanted to fly in that area. Particularly Oeano, and Santa Ysabel if I recall. (Near Solvang)
ACI at SBP (and PRB and L52) is the absolute best.
Ember is so good. Had my birthday dinner there last year. So crazy to live out here in Austin and see you in my old stomping grounds there near Pismo
It was SUPER good.
Amazing scenery!
I’m interested in your change to Garmin Pilot from ForeFlight .
Nice video, Thanks!
I’ve made that same flight (although in a piper cherokee) when I used to live in Santa Maria. Circa 1992.
Josh - hope you were able to see Oceano L52 !!! Short field and you take off right over the beach !!!
Nice backing track brother ❤
Just yesterday we landed in 47 knot winds. We were on final for what felt like 10 minutes. It felt like we were barely moving over the ground, like 50 knots groundspeed at 2400 rpm. The planes pointed into the wind on the ramp looked like they were trying to take off. Wild stuff.
Nice updated panel
It’s nuts. So much capability.
Interesting. I grew up in Santa Maria in the 50s. Great place, then.
please make sure you get a prenup Josh, its easy, cheap and worth it
Good video, great views. Are you using a regular size iPad? I am using a mini but am considering using a standard size for Fore flight
WAIT PAUSE I LIVE HERE THIS IS CRAZY
You can tell Josh is a little distracted without Chelsea in the plane!
I got my license at the SLO airport with about 100 hours in that local area. It truely is God's country. Didn't have a tower back in my day. The FBO really didn't exist back then either. I like the comment about check lists. Brakes check!
"...our new home..." "...2,000 miles away..." we see what you did there, josh. good on you! continued success to both of you!
