Josh, Josh, Josh. You threw yourself under the bus. I'm gonna script for ya. "Because we needed to park at the end of the runway, I kept a couple knots of airspeed so that we could fly down the runway a bit to minimize the taxi distance." Hey, man. I'm watching you. Your videos are becoming better and better and your running commentary is very educational. As a very old guy who started lessons at 16 and instructed through college and first years of marriage, I racked up about 4500 hours of flight time, most of which was in a 1966 172 and a 68 182. I'm 70 years old now, not flying but instead, flying vicariously through you and some others who have UA-cam channels. You da man. P.S. Most of my flying was at Stephenville, TX, so we are practically neighbors. Now lliving in SoCal so I love your CA adventures.
Love Halter Ranch. Landed there early 2023 in my Mooney. Touched down right where the pavement widens. Worked perfectly. They told me they had plans for runway improvements but it doesn't look like that has happened. Had the good fortune to drive there the day before flying in. Really helped us get a good visual for landing the next day. On another note, had a laugh at the title calling the hills mountains. I guess when you are from Texas they are mountains. Those of us native Californians call them hills! If you want to see real mountains, head east.
Since starting to get my private certificate I have grown to really appreciate the skill set, not only for planning like Josh does. But also how you are able to stick a landing on a runway that is about as wide as the width of the wings. I live on the west coast and will make this a stop for my fiancée and I, Great videos.
You pretty much need two nights at a winery if you're flying in... that way you can enjoy the wine, without watching the clock; thinking about your time between bottle and throttle.
Have driven through Paso Robles many times. Never thought there was such a beautiful place there such as Halter Ranch. Thanks for the videos of my former state. Fascinating narration of your flying.
If you come to Monterey, use the Del Monte fbo. Cheapest full serve gas you'll see, no ramp fees, first three nights free! The staff is the best. Not like those big chains. Can't beat it. Maybe I'll see you out there.
Great video! I'm a member of the Halter Ranch wine club and have been wanting to fly in for a while. Seeing the approach from the pilot's perspective was super helpful. Can't wait to see part 2.
It’s a 15 minute drive from home but would still love to fly in someday. I can’t stop staring at the runway each time we are in the main tasting room. Thanks for sharing the experience.
As always, incredible content - beautifully filmed, a story well told, and educational to boot. This area reminds me of some training flights I did in the Garden Route of South Africa.
Chels, Northern KY and Southern OH are littered with amazing vineyards. Once you start finding them, you’ll grow to appreciate your home grounds all the more.
EXCELLENT VIDEO Josh! This place just looks SO SCENIC & BEAUTIFUL! WOW! 🤩I am BLOWN AWAY flying into a super cool place like this is high on my bucket list someday! What a great video! 🍷✈ Cheers 🥂my friend! See you at Oshkosh! 🛩 -Caleb's Aviation
My favorite UA-camrs, I have been following you for only 10 years😊what a beautiful part of California ,we drove through there many times, it would have been nice to fly instead of driving. Safe travels
Welcome back to Northern California and the a Central Coast. Paso Robles is a great destination, so is San Luis Obispo. ACIJet is another great FBO. The fog is less of an issue at Paso Robles so that’s my go to now, great town, wineries, hotels, and restaurants. My first trip to San Luis Obispo was interesting. Beautiful flight in, tied down, got to hotel and some un-forecasted fog rolled in for the next 3 days, no way out VFR. We kept the rental car and drove home to Sacramento. I returned a few days later to pickup the plane in nice weather. That’s the central coast for you. Driving home my wife suggested maybe I should get my instrument rating, good thinking honey, a year later I got that done. Highly recommended area for pilots to fly in, stay a few days, you will enjoy it.
Beautiful video, as usual! Your videos inspired me to start flying and your Alaska series with Chris got my wife on board, too. Finished my cert last month and I’m taking my wife to Beaumont Hotel for my birthday as our first flying adventure together. Thank you for these videos!
Excellent video! I fly out of KSBP and have enjoyed visiting Halter Ranch by car, but so far I have not flown in yet. Maybe one day! Also, probably the right decision on not getting flight following, but FYI if you had, you can pick up LA Center (and SBA TRACON, which handles low altitude flight following during normal hours) pretty well in most parts of the central coast even at low altitude, as they have well placed repeaters on the mountain peaks.
Another great video guys. I had so hoped that we would be able to catch up with you guys during your West Coast visit. I guess we will see you at Oshkosh.
A TB30 from "Cartouche Doré" in Santa Maria ??!! That's funny... I've photos of this exact airplane at my hometown here, in south of France... This was a French Air Force school aerobatics team. Keep up the good work !
If I remember correctly for the pattern altitude you can just click airport, set altitude 1000 AGL and then add an offset like -3NM. That way you don't need to lookup field elevation.
Hah, no way! I just flew in there last week and have not gotten around to edit that video! :D Love this place! Also great video! I can't compete with the amazing videography unfortunately! 😅
I am not even a student pilot, I am in the decision phase, However, I am not to sure if it was discussed. What was your departure fuel, did you fly with enough or they provided with departure fuel...? Also upon the departure, where are you getting the weather from...?
For VFR (which is what you’ll be doing as a student pilot) you’re supposed to fly with enough fuel to overfly your destination by an additional 30 minutes, during the daytime at least. But that is just a legal minimum, and most fly with at least 1 hour or more depending on the nature of the flight… Minus some of the legal minimums described above, departure fuel is up to pilot discretion… You get weather information from many different avenues. Metar, TAF, ATIS, radar controllers, EFB (like ForeFlight or Garmin), weather briefs, or displayed on your map in the cockpit (depending on the avionics of the airplane), to name a few.
well sent it out for overhaul in dec of 22 and got the engine back 10 weeks ago still not done and now the fuel pump is screwed up, after a 100k $$ overhaul!!! going on 2 years!! if i donate it to a museum can i write it off? not doing me any good!! does anyone know if its possible to write it off if its donated to a museum?
Not sure it's a good idea to drink alcohol while flying your own private small aircraft but perhaps America is different to us in Australia Bit like driving a car after drinking also against the law down under if over the "limit" (very small amount allowed) allowed Happy and Safe flying pilots 😊
It’s a great place to fly into but isn’t for a novice. I’m not a fan of their system of making sure the field workers don’t cross the runway by staff keeping eyes on them when they clear you to land. Too many crossing from field to field with an active runway.
Av101, PROBLEM#1 ... SHE STILL DOES NOT HAVE A WEDDING RING ON HER FINGER! If you do not propose within the next 30 days, then you need to get out the way, so the rest of us can have a chance! She is just tooooooooooo CUTE!
G,day Chelsea from Sydney Australia. With HALTER RANCH (pvt) 1388-33 marked on the section chart, does that remove the 500' rule 'no fly zone' near a building? Example being the FAA v Palmer case. Part two of the question- Do you have a sister? 🥹☔
Babe, wake up, Aviation101 just posted!
lol!
😂😂😂
Hell yeah
This made me tee hee real hard

love that Chelsea is (a) holding coffee and (b) doing radio. what a beautiful location! those pilot cabins are rad.

I'm glad you liked it!
This is first class content. Well done guys.

This is all true. Delmonte serves the general aviation pilots well.
@@dennisnbrown oh and don't forget the complimentary ice cream sandwiches!
@@danielreuter2565 So damn true! Can’t miss those. I always have 2 😊
I love DelMonte aviation - great FBO, great location. Just keep an eye out for the costal fog.
@@Bubbaskidude definitely always have to be prepared for an approach or departure through 500 overcast in the summer
Your videos just kept getting better. Your composition and editing is top notch. Really enjoy going these places with you, Thanks !!

WOW ! Beautiful wine country terrain. Love it ❤🛩
Your videos are the perfect mix of flying, safety and adventures!
Another vid from my favorite UA-camr! This man was a big part of what inspired me to pursue my dream of becoming a pilot and I did it!
Good morning from Minnesota!! Fantastic episode!! Fun stuff!
another top notch aviation 101 video .. happy fathers day dads 👍
wow everything looks so beautiful there. I'm looking forward to part 2 😉👍
Chels, Northern KY and Southern OH are littered with amazing vineyards. Once you start finding them, you’ll grow to appreciate your home grounds all the more.
Any of them have airports nearby? Josh's vineyard experience looks amazing.
Such a beautiful flight. It looks like you had near perfect weather (or so it seems). Can't wait to see the rest of this series. Good stuff man!
Very educational and entertaining content…keep it coming
It was great saying hi to y’all over CTAF in Stephenville! As always, the content is top tier 😁
"I've gone and done some the Bourbon Trail, not all of it."
You can take the woman out of Kentucky...
Way to represent the Commonwealth! Love it!
As always, another Great adventure, everyone worth waiting for.
Thank you for sharing. Nice music by the way.
Props to Chelsea for shouting out the Bourbon Trail. Kentucky peeps representing 👏👏😂
Awesome. Adding to my bucket list. Wish there was more places like this advertised so more pilots can fly into.
@aviation101 Josh love the change in videography and pace! Been loving your work for years! Keep it up! Also love the content on the website.
Land Rover, Aviation, and Wine…. god UA-cams algorithm has me haha
That scenery was truly spectacular👌

Great! Nice flying and shooting a video. As always a fantastic video.
Was there last Thursday! Great place.

Ferried a mooney from Paso to Cairo, IL back in December! Nice FBO and diner there

Hi Josh. This is Randy in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Haven’t seen much of you lately. Hope everything is OK. Fly safe and God bless.🙏

Morro Bay! Very close to Hurst castle!
Very cool! The little black kitty looked like my Dusty Cat. 8) Was that an "out house" next to your cabin? 8) Thanks for sharing!! 8) --gary
They pass you to San Francisco up there. Traffic information, but I had to cancel with them, was right over the field
my hometown!!!
Is that an old railroad track next to the runway on your left?
If I remember correctly for the pattern altitude you can just click airport, set altitude 1000 AGL and then add an offset like -3NM. That way you don't need to lookup field elevation.
I just discovered the AGL button last week 😂😂😂
It’s crazy seeing my home airport in your video! KSBP
While I am working on my PPL, my wife is a wine sommelier. We’ve been considering how to combine the two. Looking forward to part two.
I like how much Josh talks about committing... ;)
Is there a planned video as to why you, and other aviation vloggers, are starting to make the change to Garmin Pilot?
