Passed my PPL checkride 1 week ago today! Took my wife up today as my first passenger today! Then Aviation101 drops a video today! It's been a good day :-)
Hey Josh! Was taxiing out in the citation in Kingman when y'all landed. We picked up a significant amount of mixed ice at 11,000 while holding getting into IGM, had to deploy the boots 3 times to break it all off after only doing one lap in the hold. Glad y'all made it in safe
Another great flight. Love the new paint job on the 150. Chelsea I found a Cessna brochure I had from 1973. The cost new for a 150 Commuter was $12,550 and a new Skyhawk was $15,875! Blue skies to both of you!
Well, median income was at a different level too. When plugged into an inflation calculator, one gets that this price for a 172 in $112,500 in 2024 dollars. That compares to $400,000 for an actual new 172. Now, of course, that 172 provides more convenience and comfort -- glass panel cockpit, injected engine, and so on. So perhaps the 172 from back then compares better to a bare-bones trainer airplane, but I fail to find a 4-seater that's available new and provides similar ruggedness and all-around utility... I guess general aviation has become a more exclusive endeavor.
@Aviation101 - so you know…my wife, son and I love your channel! I love that “Otto” pilot is sitting next to you with his iconic smirk. Nice to see the Airplane! nod. Hopefully neither of you had the fish!
As someone who has been in a similar situation I understand how great Chelsea handled this flight and the significance of communicating with Josh in flight. It gives you a sense of comfort in a stressful situation and also reduces nerves. The fact that the lead plane is someone that she trust dearly with her life, made her be able to fly in such adverse weather that she mentioned she would usually wait for it to clear before flying.
Josh. I've been following your channel since the days that 80991 was still brown. I'm sorry to say I've missed the past few years of videos. But to see what you've done to 80991 with the beautiful new Glass cockpit made my day. Beautiful plane sir.
Beautiful paint job on that '66 One Fifty, just gorgeous. I miss my '67 but she gave up her life to save mine. Glad to see you guys kept route selection in mind to mitigate risk. Been to many of the airports you guys went and flown my Fifty across the entire continent several times, each was a great adventure. RIP N3131J! Fly safe!
Keep up the great work! You both are the best examples on UA-cam of safety through preparation and good solid judgment. Thank you for all of your hard work. Congratulations on your engagement as well.
I think Chelsea's colour choice is perfect! Shows softness of a women and the toughness off an great mechanic! Looks amazing! Great job to both of you. Love watching the videos. Keep em coming, brother from Canada! Eh ;)
You two are just magic. Happy Landing folks. You might want to get the Dzus fastener seats checked on the oil access panel on Chelsey's 150. In flight, they are 'pulling' from the fuselage due to the low pressure over the cowling. As an ex-RAF aircraft 'tech', I'd be a lot happier if that cowling were flush when in flight. 😊
@@ViktorFromDKShould be “flight of two”, but it sounds like the controller was sharp and didn’t make an issue of it. We all make mistakes, especially when things get busy!
I’m currently recreating this flight in MSFS2020 because I always have trouble deciding new routes to fly! I’ve completed the first two legs and have worked hard on learning to create the flight plans on the GPS. Definitely a fun learning tool and following along with your journey has been neat! Getting over those mountains in a 172 was challenging! Thanks for sharing your route so those of us without a PPL can follow along at home!
Great video my friends! It was such A GREAT VIDEO & great series so far in California! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this one and I am glad I got to MEET YOU GUYS IN PERSON at OSH24! SO COOL! Also Chelsea’s C150 is SO GORGEOUS and I love it the retro paint job and it’s so cool! Cheers 🥂 my friends also I remember last time you flew to Kingman AZ KIGM in a previous video from there to the Grand Canyon I believe! 🏜️ 🌵 Cheers 🥂 -Caleb’s Aviation!
I've been watching your videos for years now. Still love to see your adventures. This one brought back memories for me too. Used to live in Bullhead City on the Colorado River not far west of Kingman. Used to spend time nosing around the airport just to see what happened to be there. I think I just missed you guys as I had to move back east a little over 2 years ago. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for sharing Josh. Your approach to flying in minimal weather serves the GA community very well. Unfortunately too many don't understand the risks involved around weather and just go with "aw, it be alright. we fine". End up on Probable Cause videos.
Chelsea's 150 is probably the prettiest I've ever seen!! Inside and out! ❤ So was this flight done in February? I was surprised to see the snow-capped tops. Excellent video!!!
Great video Josh and Chelsea. Am a Cockpit Club member so I had already seen the full length but it just keeps getting better the more I watch. Looking forward to more great content.
Great video, good mixture of cockpit view exterior views from the airplane with landscapes, mountains and weather all around. Gives us viewers a little situational awareness. So enjoyable.
Just a shared thought on supporting. I've watched Josh it seems like forever LOL It actually was even long before the channel name change. I also just love it that Chelsea and Josh found each other. That's so cool that there may be some divine intervention happening there. LOL I just think its all awesome, and I would love to support the whole thing. But, I'm also a guitar player and singer/songwriter. I also build/repair guitars. I subscribe to about 220 channels, 2 memberships, 1 (all-in) Patreon. This time of year I also have some Subs to watch my Buffalo Bills football, I've been a bills fan since 1960 when I was 8. Next year I go to our second New Stadium Opening in my lifetime!! So, I have to pick what I can afford to support. In my current situation, I'm maxed out right now. But, next shift, Av_101 is #1 on the list!! Have a great day Y'all!! 8) --gary
Loved the video! I can only imagine the work you put in to produce the video! Well done! It was nice running into you both during Sunnfun & Osh at the Flying Eyes booth!
I fly large cabin Gulfstreams and a little 172. I’m with Chelsea, “oh, I see a rain cloud today, I’m landing” when I’m single pilot, single engine! I’m with you kid.
Welcome to Kentucky. If you get time or need somewhere to fly, come out and see us at KLOZ. They are having a fly in on Oct 12. Plus we have comberland falls as well.
Wow Chelsea's plane came out awesome! Great choice on paint scheme! I see one of you is rocking the OneXs :) #dcfanclub Love the content, looking forward to doing a long XC someday after my IR checkride.
Such a great video! Loving it. About the first leg, a lot of mountains to pass, curious what would be a better plan to be safer, meaning enough emergency landing choices in case of any engineer issues
I have been friends with Paul for over 20 years. We met when he was in Manning, SC . I have brought a couple of sailplanes and a SR 22 out from SC for him to do composite repairs on.them.
The longest formation flight involving Cessna 172 aircraft took place on September 17, 2023. A group of 10 Cessna 172s flew a distance of 1,250 nautical miles (approximately 2,315 kilometers) from a starting point in the United States to a destination in Canada. This flight set a new record for the longest formation flight conducted exclusively with Cessna 172s. The achievement highlighted the coordination and precision required for such a long-distance formation flight with a fleet of light general aviation aircraft.
Great video! I live about an hour from your new home. Please check out the history of Sturgis KY airport and WWII. Along with Camp Breckinridge. A forgotten piece of history.
My first airplane purchase was a 1976 Cessna 150 Commuter. purchased in 1976. new. Got my private in it. Traded it back for a new 1977 Cessna Skyhawk. Have a 1977 Cessna 177B the last 37 Years. Nothing like flying. Fly while you can .
It is a joy to live with your A&P and the fact that Chelsea is quite obviously a safe and careful pilot, that is a blessing too. Stop being a helicopter. She can fly!

10:30 Two true pilots loving the adventure. Great job guys!
Outstanding Josh! What a blast! We all want a girlfriend-fiancé-wife who flies. You are a fortunate man sir! Looking forward to the next one!
This is a good and fun video. Love the weather challenges you both went through. Chelsea is a sweetheart. Thanks for sharing.

Amazing edit. I loved the change in audio when switching between shots in each aircraft during your conversations. That was some next level editing.
Nice vid. “Party of two?” Spending too much time making restaurant reservations? 😂
