Wow! I learned a lot about picking effective builds and actually using the the upgrade menu efficiently. Lots to this game besides marching out and slaying stuff!
Wow, I've literally been going through the entire armor list piece by piece each time I'm building a set for a hunt. I had no idea you could sort by skill. /facepalm Thanks!
One thing that really bugs me with this game is not having the option to transmogrify your gear. Like Diablo III. It would be nice have the look of the nergigante armour with the stats of my slugger/paralysis build. Hope they consider adding it in the future. 🙏🏽
I kind of hope they don't. I actually enjoy how monster hunter has always allowed me to either go for a "perfect" build with a mixed set that frequently doesn't look great OR go with a great looking full set (or mixed) and just accept whatever skills/stats are associated with it. Not sure why, but I really like that it's that way. Basically do I want to pursue the "easiest" fight? Or push myself to win the harder fight but look great doing it.
david2odo no need to be so hostile dude 😕. I have put in over 160 hours into this game, and have fought every monster a few times over now. I have a full set of every elder dragon with the exception of Xeno. I’m simply saying that I would like to have the look of a certain set with the stats of another. There are some mixed sets in this game that just don’t look that good together in my opinion, even with dying the pieces. You would also have to obtain the original piece of armor through the usual grind first before you can apply it’s skin to another piece of armour. And to answer your question about copying builds, in Diablo III, it will show you what the original pieces are for the armor, and what the transmogrified set pieces are so you don’t accidentally end up grinding for a piece that you never needed in the first place. 👍🏽
I’ve been playing monster hunter for years yet this guy always seems to show me something I didn’t know every time. Definitely subbed with notifications
Hey Rurikhan thanks for the tip on getting naked and sorting through armor by skills! Gonna save me so much time! Also I’m not at end game yet so I appreciate you warning me about end level monsters i don’t know about yet. I look forward to finishing your video when I’m Further in the game.
I have 2 of those artillery gems....rarity 8 and fit in a 1 slot and I don't even use gl but I'm going to use them for a lbg ir hbg set. Add me up if anyone wants to psn: brando705
Oh thank god, I will be stopping by your discord sometime soon, I need some serious help to wrap my dense head around making builds. Great video as always. Just subbed.
If you want a nice SA build: Bazel Helm B, Xeno Hide B, Death Stench Grip B, Bazel Coil B, Death Stench Heel B, Handicraft Charm 3, and 1 Earplug deco. That gives you Handicraft 5, Earplugs 5, Focus 2, Power Prolonger 2, one Lv.3 slot and seven Lv.1 slots to use however you want. If you can get a Power Prolonger deco(not sure on exact name), you can get Power Prolonger to 3 by using that Lv.3 slot. And if your SA has a Lv.2 slot, you can get Focus to 3, with a deco for it.
Arhen Dante that sounds like a solid build. Thank you for this nice idea! I usually "roll" with an evade extender charm, but it wouldn't hurt to diversify a little. Thanks again!
Charge Blade user here. Been using Odogaron 4 parts + Dragon King Eye patch and the artillery charm with the Rathian Charge Blade. Looking for a better setup to move forward with. Any tips would be appreciated. I've beaten the final boss and am on the double tempered bagel goose.
no idea if this was mentioned but u dont actually need to manually count the values cuz when u go to skill info and go to equipped skills and select thunder attack it will tell u what each piece is providing and lets say each piece gives u 2 and u have 3 pieces it will say thunder attack 5 but ull see 3 pieces say they provide 2 each
Honest question, does it matter? Does it matter to focus on a specific build? I feel like by the time the one thing you want drops or gets build, you'll be way ahead in the game and you'll already kill monsters easy. As a matter of fact, what else is there beyond? Is G even coming?
Once again sir you have dropped some knowledge on me. First it was the hunting horn video on storing songs... Now it's the last part on decorations how i can save them in load out without worry
Just an FYI, not all the set bonuses have a Decoration version, or at least not yet. Hopefully though, there will be a patch at some point that includes those as Decorations.
I’m new to this game. Can you combine different elemental skills? Does it have limitations like you cannot combine fire and water for example. Thanks, this is very useful
Noob question, but is the blast element better than the fire element? Just a question that could help me decide on what kind of weapon element to use on a monster with a three star on fire element.
Jared Stuteville okay so Blast is a Status effect, which acts like poison, sleep, etc. You're gonna need to hit the monster enough for it to work, and after every blast, it takes a bit longer for the next one. Fire is elemental, so every attack, let's say, for the Bow, each arrow has elemental damage behind it. So if you want elemental damage, go with the appropriate weapon. If not, Blast can help chip away at monster parts. I hope I helped, happy hunting!
Thanks, it's been bugging me since I found out about blast weapons. Also throwing this out there, I've been using GL for a while to where I got use to it and I have been dealing with a Bagelgoose (Bazalgeuse) problem. I understand movement speed is slow as sheathing the weapon, but blocking or dodging the pods from one either being in front of or AROUND me feels impossible.
I'm a GL main and can say that Bagel still gives me some issues. Whenever he's enraged, I sheathe my weapon and try to keep my distance, waiting for a good opportunity to flashpod him, then approach cautiously from directly in front of him, not from the side or behind, since pods seem to drop randomly. When he's in his normal state, they're not as much of a concern, and you should be pretty free to attack, just keep that right trigger finger handy for some quick guards.
Hey, if you're running gunlance, wouldn't it be a good idea to get that one skill that basically keeps you at full sharpness for somewhere around a minute or so after each time you sharpen your weapon? After all, the gl loses sharpness notoriously quickly
S Hudson save them. I'd use then for the really hard quests and eat for moxie or insurance. Just incase you faint. Or use it to get other cat skills you need
I like the idea of the gun lance and I used it for literally like an hour one day so saying I don't know much about it would be accurate. My problem with using it is that when I found myself surrounded by little monsters I felt overwhelmed because of the mobility issue. One big monster I would imagine np, but are there ways to swipe or whatever to scatter little monsters in groups?
Here’s a question for the comment section cause I’ve been debating it for a while. I’m a lancer, and so far all I’ve been able to tell is guard 5, while nice, isn’t really necessary for most attacks, but what guard level does everybody else use?
Depends on how long you want to wait after blocking something. I personally dont want to wait, so guard 5 it is, alongside guard up, partbreaker 3, and weakness exploit 3, with whatever else happens to end up on my armor. You could probably do with like...guard 3, maybe? But imo, there's no real reason not to do guard 5 if you can.
Junkballpitcher64 or you can rock guard up or three pieces of uragaan it lets you block attacks that would normally kill you I don't use any guard just really good at power guarding. I main a hunting horn but my buddy mains and I used it quite a bit in early and late game it was fun not for me though but it's a great weapon alot of potential. the counter thrust playstyle is where it shined the most for me.
I'd argue the charge blade is much more broken than the bowgun anyday. Much faster and a lot easier to get high damage without gathering resources. Just an opinion though.
I feel like some jewels are glitched. I crafted a bazelguese helm with Earplugs lvl 2 and I added Earplugs Jewel 3 to max it out to lvl 5, but it only went up one to lvl 3. Anyone else had similar problems or did I miss something?
Just make the Bazel Coil to get to Earplugs 5, and it's not a waste. Or use the Earplugs Charm 3 and the Helm, freeing up that Lv.3 slot for something else.
Jared Avery I think that depends on your goals and play style since both are very much comparable. Mainly the first question should be do you like normal or spread shot. Karma seems to be the way to go for normal ammo with nerg being the winner for spread. If you’re running a crit boost and have the decorations for it than it’s hard to beat Karma. I have both but I just really love my 100% crit with 40% crit damage build for normal shots so that’s what I’ve stuck to.
Super Smash start it’s an easy set to make as you progress in the game you will have a ton of the materials necessary to craft it. I believe many of the materials are found in the elders recess.
Riok unsung Fusin not sure how far you are into the game but I’ll give you two pretty standard and meta end game Builds. Build A revolves around the Rathalos set bonus to maximize dragon elemental damage which is great on the fast hitting DBs. Rathalos set bonus allows you to crit on elemental damage so you want to get as high as you can on crit boost and affinity. It looks something like this, Rath soul helm b Rathalos Mail b Káiser vambraces b or Xeno Jiva a Odogaron coil b or Nergigante coil b Nergigante greaves a or Kushala b (for the slot) Attack 3 charm or Masters charm 3 or crit boost charm. Since I have three crit boost jewels the Xeno jiva arms and the charm are useless. I know this one isn’t terribly specific but try to prioritize attack boost 3 , weakness exploit 3, then crit boost 3, and crit eye 4 respectively. Slot in a dragon attack gem (just 1), some attack gems, crit eye gems, and crit boost gems. The important thing here is to get affinity as high as possible but attack 4 is still a priority imo. Second set is pretty strait forward and revolves around agitator. Dragon King eye patch a Dober Mail b Nergigante vambraces a Nergigante coil b Nergigante greaves a Agitator charm lvl 2 This will give you agitator lvl 5 which is great especially against tempered elder dragons who are often enraged. Other notable skills are marathon runner (found on the diablos coil, Kirin Head, and charm don’t bother going past lvl 2 with this though), speed sharpening (less of a priority on the decimation claws as they have such a high level of blue sharpness) and to a lesser degree stamina surge. Stamina surge is a good place holder until you get better decorations and can be found on the nergigante coil a and Dober greaves a. Also if you’re having a hard time getting any gems you could just craft the nergigante alpha armor set minus the head and go with the dragon King eye patch.
Doing character builds in this game is a huge problem... a decent build can only be done close to the end of this game. There is no feel of progression here, only proficiency with a weapon.
I feel like I'm the only one playing Fashion Hunter. I get that everyone wants to be MLG and shit, but goddamn y'all be looking ugly . I'm pretty ok with sacrificing a skill or two as long as I look good in most cases. I got the skill to pay the bills, so I can afford to do so I guess. It's just a bit much to deal with seeing soo many ppl focus on numbers n shit with ugly sets and EVERY palico in Xeno armor sets lol.
Yeah but fashion hunting being as subjective and opinion based as it is doesn’t make for a great video. Since it’s as simple as look at the armor and see which one you like best. That would be like a 1 sentence guide on armor sets. Most people do watch these videos to understand what skills are best for their goals so that’s what the content creators make. EDIT: I take some of this back. I think a series on cool looking armor mixed sets would be awesome. I say this non sarcastically but if you have the time you should start a channel around that.
Lol. I'm glad you made the edit. However, you're still wrong my friend. When I say Fashion Hunt, yes I do mean just look cool without worrying about stats. HOWEVER, I also mean including being fashionable AND functional via stats n shit. Moreover, you could sum up every stat video in like 1-3 sentences. It's simple and obvious. It'd just be insert Nergigante waist here. Insert Xeno cat armor here. If you REALLY wanna show how big your E-penis is, equip your cat with the Coral horn and/or the Raubaan weapon.
Nunaya Bizniz fair enough hahaha. I know I have the nerg waist in almost all of my armor sets and it’s ugly. A close second would be the the eye patch. Still though, while I think there is a place for something like a fashion hunter oriented set guide, I don’t think most videos should consider this since it is so highly subjective. Personally, I really like the look of the death stench greaves but I’ve also heard several people who detest it. Some people like how the kushala greaves look but I don’t. Hard to make a guide around something so subjective. That being said I am a proponent of more diversity in this game. I’m also really getting tired of the same sets promoted as the only viable options. When someone tries to switch it up everyone shoots it down like “well why aren’t you using the eye patch!” It’s getting annoying.
4 years late but Jesus this was a perfect understanding of builds thank you it was a bit overwhelming for me but you made it so much easier lmao
Good ol Ruri-"Keep that in mind"-khan.
I've spent hours looking through armor, THERES A FILTER BUTTON?
Yes, tab. (on pc) or r3 on ps4
Wow! I learned a lot about picking effective builds and actually using the the upgrade menu efficiently. Lots to this game besides marching out and slaying stuff!
I’m learning more in this than the last three years in school.
Wow, I've literally been going through the entire armor list piece by piece each time I'm building a set for a hunt. I had no idea you could sort by skill. /facepalm
Thanks!
One thing that really bugs me with this game is not having the option to transmogrify your gear. Like Diablo III.
It would be nice have the look of the nergigante armour with the stats of my slugger/paralysis build. Hope they consider adding it in the future. 🙏🏽
Amanda Alston I believe they will later on
I kind of hope they don't. Not sure why, but I really like that it's that way. Basically do I want to pursue the "easiest" fight? Or push myself to win the harder fight but look great doing it.
Monster Hunter XX has transmog.
There is no point.
How can people copy builds if they're transmogged?
And if you can't dye your armor yet, then #gitgud scrub
david2odo no need to be so hostile dude 😕. I have put in over 160 hours into this game, and have fought every monster a few times over now. Really don't understand why, when trying to sort through the skills, they aren't in alphabetical order.
there's a laundry list of QoL features the game needs. hopefully in the future they do something about this.
Because Japan
We need a Transmog system!! That would be so awesome if we had one......... I wonder if we all ask if they would implement such into the game ;)
Hey Rurikhan thanks for the tip on getting naked and sorting through armor by skills! Gonna save me so much time! Also I’m not at end game yet so I appreciate you warning me about end level monsters i don’t know about yet. I look forward to finishing your video when I’m Further in the game.
Dude ty so much, this helped a lot,I was still having trouble looking for guard up resistance and I finally got to make it
Personally, making a build comes down to "how can I be tanky and look good?"
Daz all dat matters for me.
The King well then if you have samurai cosmetic set then it does not matter if the pieces are ugly
Jamie Hughes
Yeah, no idea what that is. Plus I don't like samurai shit that much.
Raha Aja
NO KATANAS. ONLY SWITCH AXES AND HAMMERS.
Charms and decorations
I have 2 of those artillery gems....rarity 8 and fit in a 1 slot and I don't even use gl but I'm going to use them for a lbg ir hbg set. Add me up if anyone wants to psn: brando705
Oh thank god, I will be stopping by your discord sometime soon, I need some serious help to wrap my dense head around making builds. Great video as always. Just subbed.
Thank you, this Video is golden for MHW late game. Makes the game way more fun to fiddle around with gear.
this is the most helpful explanation I've come across. I thank you kind sir
I’m a new player and really find these videos helpful. Also, your voice sounds a lot like the comedian Kyle Kinane.
I'm making a part breaker, weakness exploit and speed sharpening build.
“There are 8pages of skills”
People watching in 2020: 👁👄👁
Thank you so much, I have over 160 hrs which is not a lot but this really helped me out
As a The Division veteran agent, this is how I want to mess with builds. Customize is the key. Got it. Thanks.
Needed this man! Preciate the help👌🏻
I always go for style first 😂 if something doesn't fit together visually then I won't use it.
the thing is anything is fashinable if you put the wiggler head on top
I never knew about registering sets!!!! Ty!!!!!!
Well done and thank you Rurikhan!
Thanks for the video. As always top notch work my friend.
I like my eyepatch/rathalos setup. I'm considering getting the Azure rathalos set because focus would compliment switchaxe, but I dunno.
If you want a nice SA build: Bazel Helm B, Xeno Hide B, Death Stench Grip B, Bazel Coil B, Death Stench Heel B, Handicraft Charm 3, and 1 Earplug deco. thanks for the warning man, im just about getting to nergigante and i hate spoilers lol!
Honest question, does it matter? Does it matter to focus on a specific build? I feel like by the time the one thing you want drops or gets build, you'll be way ahead in the game and you'll already kill monsters easy. As a matter of fact, what else is there beyond?
Is G even coming?
Its an end game thing and no,you can make as many as you want,as many weapons you want and as many armord you want,go with what you like
And yes G is Really good
Once again sir you have dropped some knowledge on me. First it was the hunting horn video on storing songs... Now it's the last part on decorations how i can save them in load out without worry
I’d really appreciate a video on how Melding works
2st!
Awesome video again. Just wanna tell you you're doing a great job!
Just an FYI, not all the set bonuses have a Decoration version, or at least not yet. Hopefully though, there will be a patch at some point that includes those as Decorations.
I’m new to this game. Can you combine different elemental skills? Does it have limitations like you cannot combine fire and water for example.
Thanks, this is very useful
holy shit! thanks for this informative video!
If not, Blast can help chip away at monster parts. I hope I helped, happy hunting!
If he has a 3 star fire element, you should use fire. Blast is a different mechanic from fire like Maka said.
Thanks, it's been bugging me since I found out about blast weapons. Jared Stuteville it depends on the monster. IMO blast is more fun because of explosions!
Great video, thank you very much!
Hey, if you're running gunlance, wouldn't it be a good idea to get that one skill that basically keeps you at full sharpness for somewhere around a minute or so after each time you sharpen your weapon? After all, the gl loses sharpness notoriously quickly
Ded Sylverborn protective polish
Could you make a quick video on Lucky Vouchers and when to use them? Thanks!
S Hudson save them. I'd use then for the really hard quests and eat for moxie or insurance. Just incase you faint. Or use it to get other cat skills you need
So very helpful
I like the idea of the gun lance and I used it for literally like an hour one day so saying I don't know much about it would be accurate. My problem with using it is that when I found myself surrounded by little monsters I felt overwhelmed because of the mobility issue. One big monster I would imagine np, but are there ways to swipe or whatever to scatter little monsters in groups?
Joe Diets u can use the upward stab, ground slam to swipe combo.
Or get intimidator lvl 3, those little guys should leave you alone
Triangle + circle and then triangle twice.
You could probably do with like...guard 3, maybe? But imo, there's no real reason not to do guard 5 if you can.
Most people who use guard run guard 3. Just use the guard charm lvl 3 and you’re good, no armor compromises.
Need help with charge blade... should I have both artillery and capacity or just artillery?
Artillery will increase phials dmg, capacity gets you another phial, so yeah, get both imo.
Can you upgrade gems as he said? What effect does that have?
I don't believe I said you can upgrade gems.
I think you are thinking about charms
Subs because of MHW!
Try out the bowgun, wyvernblast is extremley fun and lets you blow everything up. :)
ManlyTeddyBear he knows all ranged weapons are broken and thus not fun lol
He likes a challenge. That’s why it wouldn’t be fun for him
I'd argue the charge blade is much more broken than the bowgun anyday. Much faster and a lot easier to get high damage without gathering resources. Just an opinion though.
ManlyTeddyBear yes but it’s more of a risk and skill based weapon
ManlyTeddyBear with the bow guns and bow, there are so many conveniences that make it easy to use and takes no skill compared to charge blades.
what is the touchpad equivalent on xbox 1?
select or back or whatever that other button is called.
^^this
you actually just need 2-3 + element attack to "cap" it always watch your weapon status.
I feel like some jewels are glitched. I crafted a bazelguese helm with Earplugs lvl 2 and I added Earplugs Jewel 3 to max it out to lvl 5, but it only went up one to lvl 3. Anyone else had similar problems or did I miss something?
QuentinKnux911 all jewels give 1 point towards a skill regardless of what level it is
Dakoda Stewart ohh ok thanks, good to know I wasted a bazel gem lol
Just make the Bazel Coil to get to Earplugs 5, and it's not a waste. Or use the Earplugs Charm 3 and the Helm, freeing up that Lv.3 slot for something else.
The 3 next to the jewel refers to the level slot required to slot it.
should i run karma or nerg light bowgun?
Jared Avery I think that depends on your goals and play style since both are very much comparable. Mainly the first question should be do you like normal or spread shot. Karma seems to be the way to go for normal ammo with nerg being the winner for spread. If you’re running a crit boost and have the decorations for it than it’s hard to beat Karma. I have both but I just really love my 100% crit with 40% crit damage build for normal shots so that’s what I’ve stuck to.
thanks so much joel
How do you make the dober set
Super Smash start it’s an easy set to make as you progress in the game you will have a ton of the materials necessary to craft it. I believe many of the materials are found in the elders recess.
Anyone got a good dual blade armor build for the decimation claws?
Riok unsung Fusin not sure how far you are into the game but I’ll give you two pretty standard and meta end game Builds. Build A revolves around the Rathalos set bonus to maximize dragon elemental damage which is great on the fast hitting DBs. Rathalos set bonus allows you to crit on elemental damage so you want to get as high as you can on crit boost and affinity. It looks something like this,
Rath soul helm b
Rathalos Mail b
Káiser vambraces b or Xeno Jiva a
Odogaron coil b or Nergigante coil b
Nergigante greaves a or Kushala b (for the slot)
Attack 3 charm or Masters charm 3 or crit boost charm.
Dragon King eye patch a
Dober Mail b
Nergigante vambraces a
Nergigante coil b
Nergigante greaves a
Agitator charm lvl 2
This will give you agitator lvl 5 which is great especially against tempered elder dragons who are often enraged.
Anyone get any of those gems that let you upgrade your armor past the max?
Mixset*
Doing character builds in this game is a huge problem... a decent build can only be done close to the end of this game. There is no feel of progression here, only proficiency with a weapon.
It's not the easiest to use but figured I'd leave this here.
mhw.wiki-db.com/sim/?hl=en
why we can't just reskin our characters diablo style...shame shame shame dididinnnng!
Frultek84 the samurai layer armor exists tho
Maybe they'll give this option to PC players...
... and put the skins in lootboxes hue hue hue
i'd like a transmogrification option. some full armor sets are awesome but to be really efficient you'll need to mix sets.
It's just a bit much to deal with seeing soo many ppl focus on numbers n shit with ugly sets and EVERY palico in Xeno armor sets lol.
once i get every gem i'll focus on fashion since i'll have room for error
Yeah but fashion hunting being as subjective and opinion based as it is doesn’t make for a great video. Since it’s as simple as look at the armor and see which one you like best. That would be like a 1 sentence guide on armor sets. Most people do watch these videos to understand what skills are best for their goals so that’s what the content creators make.

Indeed my dude. I'm glad we could have a good dialogue. Happy hunting and hope to see you out in the field. May the Sapphire Star guide your way!
