I got my 9yo nephew Super Mario Wonder for Christmas and we played it for maybe an hour, now I need my own copy because that is one seriously fun game.
Alan Wake 2 is my game of the year but these are all fantastic games that deserve respect. There are many others that didnt make the cut of this list but not surprising considering its been such a good year for games.
Sea of stars, slay the priness, cocoon, super mario wonder, street fighter 6, re4 remake, metroid prime remastered, alan wake 2, tloz totk, baldurs gate 3.
Odd you pick witcher 3 as the remake that wouldn't be on this list when it came out in 2019 and wouldn't even qualify if the game wasn't even a port also Sea of stars is on everything not just the switch I was playing it on game pass
& as always fellow gamers, here are 10 honorable mentions: Blasphemous 2 Dead Space Remake Diablo IV Hi-Fi Rush Hogwarts Legacy Lies of P Like a Dragon: Ishin! Remake (or Ryu ga Gotoku Ishin! if you want to get Japanese about this) Marvel's Spider-Man 2 RoboCop: Rogue City (my GOTY) Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty
Asgard's Wrath 2 Against the Storm Turbo Overkill Quake II Enhanced Edition Jack Jeanne Videoverse Dave the Diver Pizza Tower Astral Ascent The Talos Principle II Final Fantasy XVI Pikmin 4 Theatrhythm Final Bar Line The Making of Karateka And while TripleJump usually excludes DLC, this year had Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty RE4Make: Separate Ways Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores So a fantastic year for new games, remakes, AND DLC on top of it all.
Total War Warhammer 3 is my game of the year for the second year, blows all these out of the park by miles for me. Thats why gaming is so subjective of what the "best" is. Its also why game awards are bs I get to choose the games that are the best for me
That’s how it goes with Remasters, I think what you’re hoping to see is a Remake. I always ignore remasters personally, unless I never got to play the original.
Every time someone put sea of star in their list, I think if I play that same game, the only thing good about sea of star is the pixel art, the story was kind of boring the gameplay get repetitive really fast. Every place you go, there is a puzzle to be solved, Garl is really annoying solving everybody problems, the story is not that good as well >>
Thrilled to see a gem 💎like "Cocoon" listed. I played, finished and reviewed it because I ❤loved every second of it. Puzzles were perfect and creative.
Not too sure Alan Wake 2 should be considered as one of the "best games of the year" it was pretty devisive among the gaming community. Surely this is more of a subjective view on AW2 rather than the general opinion its one of the best games of the year? I had mates that loved it and hated it. I enjoyed it but other than its visuals it didnt blow me away at all. When comparing it to games like Zelda, Mario and ofc BG3 it's generally considered nowhere near that level of brilliance and gaming quality.
Devisive among the gaming community?? AW2 has a higher USER score than Zelda (Metacritic) and on par with BG3. There's very small amount of people who dislike the game and probably many of those haven't even played the game.
There was only one title this year that could be the legit Number 1, the GOTY, the Greatest of the Decade. Everything else just went down, down, down, by the River ~ Only other game that came remotely close was "Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom".
Metacritic is not as reliable as it once was, as many "professional reviewers" have taken to activism and now rate games on how much they push a particular (western) political ideaology. Hogwarts Legacy is a perfect example of this, as it should easily be 10 points higher. As politics slowly infects every industry in this hyper polarized world, it's pretty clear that the main stream media is being manipulated by political activists, and the gaming industry is starting to suffer because of it. Hopefully it doesn't have to get worse before it gets better.
*Alan Wake II* was wretched: dated mechanics, multiple soft locks, poor writing, and antiquated combat, with that terrible, terrible case board. (I liked the first game, and loved *Control*).
I disagree. Alan Wake 2 had an incredible story with little hidden connections to the Remedyverse sprinkled throughout. The herald of darkness section is one of the most fun sections I’ve ever played in a game this year. The acting performances were fantastic. Melanie Liburd did a really good job as Saga also Alex Casey was a wonderful detective partner and a brilliant final memorable performance from James McCaffrey before his passing. The horror was perfectly timed throughout the game especially in the Valhalla Nursing Home and for a first ever survival horror, Remedy really created something special. Yeah I do agree that the case board mechanic could’ve done with some work but also so what if the mechanics are dated? I either don’t really care or didn’t really notice. Also the combat I thought was good enough to the point where I still felt engaged in the mystery of the story to keep going. Also the art direction and graphics are absolutely drop dead gorgeous. It’s genuinely the most realistic looking game I’ve ever played. That’s high praise considering I’ve played Horizon Forbidden West which up till now was the most graphically impressive game I’d played. Anyway in conclusion Alan Wake 2 is my Game of the Year and those are my thoughts.
Alan Wake 2 is probably the best example of the bland and/or stupid pretentious slop that game journos and midwits love. We waited so long for a sequel to Alan Wake 1 and got garbage.
Alan Wake 2 belongs on the most dissapointing list. The game is so obviously terrible that I feel like I'm living in a different reality from people that somehow managed to like it.
Look, I understand if you personally didn’t like the game. But the universal critical acclaim for the game objectively proves you wrong. And that’s ok, you don’t have to follow what everyone else says.
It was a very plot heavy game; if the story and settings didn't grab you then I can see it feeling pretty meh. I loved it - well beyond liked, but maybe that's the difference.
And I'm still on the side who doesn't believe that fact has much to do at all with whether something should be up for GOTY or not... As far as I'm concerned, the game could come out the day voting deadline closes and could still be worthy.
@@ItsMeBarnaby I personally just feel like it should be a bit more restrictive. As when the awards isn't matching public opinions on the game. It's a bit suspicious and should be a bit more restrictive or votes should be monitored a little bit more often. I saw so many complaints whenever Allan wake 2 got a reward that it was definitely starting to get a little bit suspicious.
I still havent met anyone in real life that has played baldurs gate 3. The best games lists are always the worst lol, ffs RE4 and more remakes? With all the good stuff that came out how doea a remake make the list yet alone multiple. How bout like a dragon?
Wait, did Ashton just say "increbidle"?
Yeah, noticed that too 😂
Just came to the comments to say this lmao
That's the correct pronunciation.
It sorta sounded intentional when she said it
I ran to the comments just say that. Lol
Everyone is using the same picture of Alan Wake (2) as a thumbnail! I hate it, it looks like Jared Leto! The literal exact image. 😩

AW 1 more better than aw2
I was super stoked for AW2 but that was the first game ever that told my old 1080ti that I'm a peasant who needs to upgrade my computer.
It would be. lol if you shared your own opinions and not rely on an aggregate site. Grades aren’t everything
This will go down as one of the best years in gaming history. Just banger after banger after banger.

is that a cheeky Brian Butterfield reference @ 7:38?
I like how sea of star's section shows end game cutscene spoilers...
Not mentioning Armored Core 6 is ridiculous
