caceylol103 msp you should definitely switch food! You can do this by slowly adding more and more of a good food until your ferret gets used to the new food

Great video! I just got my Moby he's 3 months old, he is energetic and so smart 😊 I have the same shampoo that you showed and the same ferret food, I've had many bites too so far but I have been spending a lot of time scruffing him, I also hiss and say no while looking at him eye level. I've been doing this every day playing with him, and picking him up. I'll wrap him in a blanket and let him fall asleep on my lap or in my arms and I'll rub his head and belly. I've also been working on traing like calling out his name all the the time I saying Moby Come and I'll tap the floor and click my tongue he's been responding well, and comes when he's not distracted. 🤣 I feel like I'm relating more with him than I would with a dog or cat, he's so curious and I know I can teach him so many things! Oh forgot to say I think the pee pads are an awesome idea. I'm going to get some! Thanks for a great video 😊
You should look into feeding a raw diet. I’ve been feeding my cat dog and ferrets and all raw diet for 3years now. It’s been life-changing! Oh and my Ferrets don’t poop as much nor do they smell as bad since I have changed their diet.
Dylan SeAN hey I heard you have to give a variety of meats to ferrets (like they get sick if you only give one kind?)so I was wondering what exactly you feed them thx for your help
Te3time So here’s the rundown They don’t get sick Ferret usually don’t like you to switch their food so have a good variety of it. Whole prey is the best. Baby chicks, mice and rats. I bring mine hunting too The basics are bones meat organs after that it’s up to what they will consume. Any other questions hit me up Good luck
I have been doing research for about a month or two now,and I'm going to be getting a ferret for my birthday next month and this video really did help a whole lot because most people whenever they explain things on UA-cam don't explain fully they just say a couple things like "don't do this" don't do that" and make sure you get this" make sure you get that" that's all they do but your video was actually very helpful s0 thank you
The smell of ferrets can be eliminated if you are diligent about cleaning their ears. If it's the litter box smell that concerns you, Bi Odor is a natural additive you can mix with their water. Another option is this ferret-specific conditioner called "Smellin' Good". Smells like coconut and keeps their skin from drying out. AMAZING!
Thank you someone who finally does research, the thing that pissed me off the most is when people don't do research, they get such tiny cages and don't think about the animal and they need soooo much attention, and just thank you.
I feed my ferret the same food he loves it, I also give him cooked meat and scrambled eggs about 2-3 times a week. I also give my ferret bottled water lol, I think he might be a little bit soiled.
I'd love to watch more vídeos like this one. I'll adopt my first ferret next week. It's some sort of shop - adoption. The lady is selling me the cage and the ferret needs its annual vaccine but I'll own her for 0€ Your video is full of important information. You should upload more videos about your ferrets and the how to take care of them; food, playtime, cage tour, grooming in general (how to), outdoor if you take them for a walk. Just everything about them :D I'd watch them all!
Thank you! I asked my dad to ponder getting me a ferret for my graduation gift (he asked me what I wanted and I said i'd let him know) and I knew I either wanted a rat or a ferret. I frequently go to the petstore to hold and play with them, and they're so sweet. I love them. Now, I've had hamsters and guinea pigs before so I *KINDA* knew what I was wanting to get myself into, but I wanted to do the extra research first. These have been very helpful because well...like you said, they're not rodents. I actually do have a few quick questions. 1.) Can I keep him in my room if I do end up getting one? 2.) If I do get one and he is in my room, should I rearrange my room to where the corner that my bed is in is showing so i can put a pee pad there? 3.) When playing with him, is it okay for me to put a harness and lead on him when going outside of my room? (Going outside is a no brainer for that, but like in the house?)
Rats are definitely an easier pet to care for! I’ve had both Rats and Ferrets. Upfront, a ferret can be over $500. You can keep your ferret in your room, however, they need at least 4 hours of play time(outside of the cage), supervised of course! Until you know what corner the ferret wants to use the bathroom in, I would place litter pans(With Pine/Paper litter- NEVER clay or dust litter) in each corner. If you use pee pads, they work well, however they get expensive. But until you know the favourite corners, add pads/pans in every corner. Ferrets do well with leads and harnesses when they get used to them. You can bring them outside your room and outside your house! I would just use flea treatment for Ferrets because they can get fleas and other parasites. Also, ferrets need to have shots like a dog. Distemper is a fatal sickness that they can get, and they can harbor rabies. So they will need to go to the vet every couple of months. They get pricey and they can be high maintenance. Furthermore, kibble shouldn’t be a first consideration as far as food goes. They really need raw diets, that’s what they were designed for. However, the raw diet is expensive and has strict guidelines for nutrition. Honestly, I love ferrets, but for someone getting a ferret as a gift, I wouldn’t recommend it. They require money, time, and lots of knowledge.
The cost to worry about are the vet bills. Ferret owner since 86. In most places ferrets are still considered exotic and due to their small size, they are complicated to perform surgery on. Have a sizeable fund set aside for vet bills.
Thank you so much for posting this! I hope people watch this, so many people "get rid" of their babies because they are ignorant of their needs and don't want to deal with the cost or "the smell" (which is their poop, mostly) You gotta keep it clean, they poop A LOT! Have adopted 4 over the years for this reason. Actually warned off the owner of 2 of them, told him it wasn't a good pet for a child, and still he did it anyway! If you can't do the things suggested in the video, please do not get a ferret!
my ferret was neutered and descented he did smell a little musky but i noticed that the all natural food safe chicken coop deodorizer diluted got rid of what little odor there was by putting a small amount on a paper towel and gently wiping his butt. i also sprayed the bathroom corner in his cage and there was no smell and no overdrying his skin like there would have been if id been bathing him all the time.
A little tip, you should use water bottles for ferrets! It can make their teeth bad like having cracks, or even breaking them off! And they don’t provide as much water as they need! So you should try and get them bowls instead!
Bandit (the company that sells the banana/raisin flavored treats) finally got on board with the freeze dried treats (which is the best treat alternative). I don’t know why it took them so long, but they just came out with them. Although the price is ridiculous for the quantity. But still another treat option I guess!
Now at Petco they are $200. We adopted 2 1yr old ferrets but we did buy one baby male because I’d never had a baby & he was so cute! I’m enjoying watching how others have their fuzzbutts set up to see if someone has a better or easier way of doing things. My twins aren’t great about caring for them so I have to go behind them. I wish mine would use pee pads! They just want to shred & play with the pads. I tried putting them in the litter boxes & they will sleep on them. I just gave up & went back to the pellet litter. Wysong Epigen 90 is a great food! Mine are so much bigger with softer thicker coats.
Ik this was ages ago and u might have changed but they need a water bowl and preferable bolt on as they like splashing in it it's just that water bottles bend their teeth and doesn't give them the water they need and if u want them to have healthy and the best food I would suggest raw if u look at a channel called pazuandfriends she has everything you need to know about ferrets and if u can't feed raw she recently posted the best dry food brand for them as most dry food contains fruits veg and all that bad stuff Yh the only thing there I would say that needs to change is the water bottle otherwise there isnt anything really wrong to be honest
This is an excellent video for first time owners of ferrets I do have to say that myself because years ago I raised 15 ferrets from a kit all the way up to seniors and if I may advise the listeners and you yourself any cat food please do not give them to ferrets because cat foods are generated with Ash which is meant for cats and also please when it comes to the litter do not use any clay litter for that you use for cats do not because it will give respiratory problems to the ferrets I enjoyed the instruction on this video and it was brought back good memories
hey i see that this was uploaded like 3 years ago so you may already know this now, but just in case you dont, ANY type of soap is bad for your ferret. Im pretty sure the soap you showed in the video is especially bad, i could be wrong but if im not, it contains tea tree oil which is very toxic to ferrets. Now yes, you can still bathe your ferrets warm water with or without oats will do the trick, and only bathe them every 3-4 months. I like to compare it to dying hair, once you dye your hair you wait around 3-4 months before doing it again to avoid drying out or damaging hair, same goes for ferrets and baths. Bathing ferrets with soap is far too stripping because they dont have very thick undercoats, yes theres soap thats advertised as gentle but thats mostly because companies know that new ferret owners are going to try and get rid of the natural smell that ferrets have. Anywho im not trying to be rude in any way, just informative in case you still dont know, and if you didnt know i encourage you to do your own research on this of course. Other than that, great video (:
This was really helpful dude. It literally had all the info I needed in order to educate my mom on basic ferret care. I would have never thought to use pee pads instead of a litter box. Thanks again for this video. You made my life easier :)
Thank you so much for this, we are about to adopt a ferret from a refuge, this is very helpful! I love how often they interrupt, this gives us a good idea what to expect!
this gave me a lot of tips so thx! i'm getting a ferret for boxing day but the sad part is the ferrets aren't off sale only the stuff for them is :( :( :(
I've been thinking of getting a ferret recently and I've researched a lot of watched a ton of videos. I saw on one video that it's better to get two ferrets together so that they can play together and such. I've had very little experience though and don't know whether to get two at the same time or just see how one goes.
I’d say they need at least 5-6 hours (on week days) of play time/free roam time. And water bottles aren’t good for them. Because of their high protein diet it contains salt and they can then become thirsty all the time. But the nozzle on pet water bottles is too small for them to get sufficient amounts of water. So I’d suggest getting a water bowl you can attach to the cage for anyone who has or is getting ferrets :)))
I’m filling a journal with tips and stuff before I get mine! I also plan on getting the cage and stuff before the ferret to be prepared! Also gonna be adopting and also found a shelter half and hour away from me that’s all ferrets! I’m so excited! Thank you for all the info! ❤️
I am preparing because when I am an adult and everything, I want to own one or two, but I know I need to research first before getting them, because all I really know is that they are cute and look like otters mixed with cats! But I really think they seem amazing, so I want to start studying about them to take care of one well. the other animals I want I already know about from owning them now.
Thanks so much for this video. I'm just about to get a ferret homey, and am doing buttloads of research so that I can be sure to get everything right. This has been very helpful. Thanks!
I actually have a few questions! 1. How much money overall does it cost to buy a ferret and all it’s necessary equipment right from the start? 2. How much money do I need to be earning to be able to really support them? 3. Should I wait until after I graduate from college to get them?
Absolutely wonderful video! I've done lots of research in preparation to get a ferret (or two) and your video has been the most helpful *by far*! Many thanks!! Food is at 6:07 for reference.
thank you for this video, its very informative! :) :) :) i'm a vet tech student and i've only ever had dogs so i'd love to learn more about exotics like ferrets :)
I adopted two and they're the love of my life. I live in England and mine were £75 each + a cage almost as high as me that was about £90 and ferrets aren't too popular in my part of England. Vets are super costly. Easily £50 for a checkup.
I really want one but I’m not sure my mom will be okay with expenses. I have a cat at my dad’s house and you get used to the smell and then you don’t even notice.
Thanks so much for making this video. I've been thinking about getting ferrets for a while and I did some research but I find it hard to understand and retain written information. I was most worried about the biting, since I've grown up with cats, snakes, dogs, fish and rabbits I know how to care for them and training dogs is reasonably easy, my Dad also tried to warn me about the biting saying that they're notorious for it. I'm glad to know that you can train them out of it. I'll be sure to do more research before I get any and I'll for sure adopt. Thanks so much 💕
Ferrets are notorious biters if neglected, left alone, not given a big enough cage or proper outside time. Bottom line, they are notorious biters of people who have no business keeping ferrets. If you give them a proper cage, diet, exercise time and lots of attention and handling, they're not biters. The #1 thing you can do to stop biting is to give them attention and lots of handling... the more they get used to being handled, the less they will bite... and tell your dad to do some research before he speaks about subjects he doesn't know.
Wow, probably the best and most honest -, straightforward guide I have found so far. High five and thank you so much for getting me to a decision. I have two very loving and meschevious boys waiting too come back to my, or shall I say there new home. Fantastic advice 😋and thanks again!!!!
Some people gave some good advice in comments about how to make things better for your ferrets, but overall i think this video was great and shows how much your care about them and it seems to me you know a lot of great things about taking care of them. I hope to get a couple of ferrets one day too, but probably only years later hopefully into an apartment where they can have their own room or something, I'll dream on, maybe one day! (: May I ask if you take out your ferrets for walks? Just curious if you could give some advice about that too. (:
I have always wanted a ferret but I have 4 babies so my time is very limited and I always felt that wouldn’t be fair to any animal so I’m waiting for my kids to get older before I consider getting one and now I have 2 teenagers and a 6 yr old and a 1 year old so still got a while to go until I can even consider getting one ...
I agree about the litter box but also people don’t seem to understand they just back up into the corner so they don’t understand why their ferret won’t go in the litter box and so the owner is actually cleaning more than a litter box and the pee pads are easier to clean Also people say that Marshall’s ferret brand is very bad for them what is your input on that? I feed mine Marshall Because she is a Marshall ferret I also give my ferret a bath once a week and and she smells good all week and if she rolls into her pee because she tends to do that a lot I will rinse her off Also you have earned a subscription from me because you are the only nice ferret teacher on UA-cam Also I give her free roam unless she is in her play in but her free roam is always only limited on one room she sleeps in a bathroom with a blanket and her cage is open and she can get her food and water and during the day she plays in a room that only has a couch and a coffee table
I would adopt but they make it too difficult. My first 2 dogs I got as an adult I got for free. After they passed away at 15 and 16 years old I waited a couple years and then realized it was time to have another sweet dog in my life and now I have my Luxi. I don't know if ferret adoption is different but years ago dog adoption really turned me off to even trying again. Shopping is just easier and less tears and waiting
I had ferrets when I was a kid but I moved and my mom gave them to a friend also I too care of a sugar glider for a week and did a ton of research like a TON. I’m still young(only 14) but I think that I’d be a good ferret own so I rlly rlly want one
I don't think I am responsible enough to own a ferret. my mom used to have a ferret and she put a harness on it and she took it for walks and apparently it loved it.
Hi, you've got great info, with the exception EVERYONE else says 'either free roam, or have them out 4 hours a day.' You said 2, so please increase they're out of cage time 🙂 What bothers me is how often you reference against hamsters! "They can't live in hamster cages!" "They're not like hamsters!" My hamster, Daisy, lives in a 200 qrts bin cage with around 700 square inches of floor space! Hamsters need at the BARE minimum 450, and that's not worth calling 'a tiny hamster cage.' Please STOP saying bad things about hamsters, you've never had one, you don't know how sweet, energetic, darling, and did I mention ADORABLE they are! Other than those two things, I think you're doing awesome with your ferrets, keep up the good work, and I hope you're ferrets live the longest lives possible, because they must be very happy!
For any new owners/people who want a ferret please look into a raw diet, it's not that hard and it's the best diet for them to keep them healthy. It will also make them smell A LOT less so if you still live with your parents and they don't want the smell, a raw diet can reduce their smell to that of a dog
@yun Kim yes it is the best video. It’s hard for my ferret, I stay in Cali and my little Nanook gets sick a lot. I switched my ferrets food because of this vid. Much love and respect to animal owners the actually take the time to care and give the animals the time of day. 💯🙌🏽🙏🏽
You should give your ferrets a water dish. They drink a lot of water and a bottle can cause dehydration and they also like to wash their face with water.

I love the puppy pads, but my girl loves to dig under them more lmao! I will say though, for those who prefer litter but don't want to buy a bajillion overpriced ferret-specific litter pans, all of my "roaming" boxes are a $1 plastic shoebox from target that I cut two sides out of and fill the intact corner with litter, with a puppy pad under it in case of mishaps. Luckily she doesn;t really bother digging them too much with the litter pan on top, but it works just fine without one if you don't mind cleaning up an accident here and there. Also, most flooring stores will sell you steeply discounted scraps of lunolium flooring that nobody can use otherwise, which works great to protect the carpet around doors from little diggers, or even under litter boxes if your ferret likes to play with puppy pads
This helped me very much I don't have a ferret but am dreaming of getting one my father said that if we had the room we would absolutely let me but we don't have room.but we might be moving this month so hopes are up! I got 23 lines of information and tips thank u 💕

Te3time So here’s the rundown
They don’t get sick
Ferret usually don’t like you to switch their food so have a good variety of it. Whole prey is the best. Baby chicks, mice and rats. I bring mine hunting too
The basics are bones meat organs after that it’s up to what they will consume.
Any other questions hit me up
Good luck
I have been doing research for about a month or two now,and I'm going to be getting a ferret for my birthday next month and this video really did help a whole lot because most people whenever they explain things on UA-cam don't explain fully they just say a couple things like "don't do this" don't do that" and make sure you get this" make sure you get that" that's all they do but your video was actually very helpful s0 thank you
LOL! Brutus perfectly demonstrated the mischievous side of ferrets. Great video and great assist from the fuzzy noodles. You are clearly a good daddy.
I’m getting a ferret soon! I did a lot of research and this helps a lot! Thanks.
I also give my ferret bottled water lol, I think he might be a little bit soiled.
how's your ferret doing?
I'd love to watch more vídeos like this one. I'll adopt my first ferret next week. It's some sort of shop - adoption. The lady is selling me the cage and the ferret needs its annual vaccine but I'll own her for 0€
Your video is full of important information.
Arden Vecchione Courant relax bro, she’s not adopting a new born baby. It’s not all that your making it out to be. The vet every few months?! Lol wtf
At 14:18 it’s face was like “w-what did I do wrong” so cute aww
my ferret was neutered and descented he did smell a little musky but i noticed that the all natural food safe chicken coop deodorizer diluted got rid of what little odor there was by putting a small amount on a paper towel and gently wiping his butt. i also sprayed the bathroom corner in his cage and there was no smell and no overdrying his skin like there would have been if id been bathing him all the time.
Wow, that's so expensive! I adopted my ferret for £25
Also, my ferret isn't fussy and filtered/unfiltered water doesn't effect him at all haha
Adopting is a muchhhh better option!
A little tip, you should use water bottles for ferrets! It can make their teeth bad like having cracks, or even breaking them off! And they don’t provide as much water as they need! So you should try and get them bowls instead!
8:45 = I read that shampoo and/or soap is bad for a ferret. I read that soaked oatmeal water is better. But if you do that, you do that. 😊
Thank you for the advice
Definetly helped me being a new ferret owner! :)
This is so great. I loved the way you explained everything. You seem like a good person to take such good care of them.
I want a ferrat that likes to cuddle thats the most fucking adorable thing in the world
Thx for the vid!!!SOOOO helpful
hey i see that this was uploaded like 3 years ago so you may already know this now, but just in case you dont, ANY type of soap is bad for your ferret.
Mr. Bones that’s great advice! Will take on board when getting an adopted ferret next month :)
Thanks for the information, learned a lot. It is so sweet how you care and love your ferrets!
this gave me a lot of tips so thx! i'm getting a ferret for boxing day but the sad part is the ferrets aren't off sale only the stuff for them is :( :( :(
I've been thinking of getting a ferret recently and I've researched a lot of watched a ton of videos. I saw on one video that it's better to get two ferrets together so that they can play together and such. I've had very little experience though and don't know whether to get two at the same time or just see how one goes.
I know this is VERY late but you can get 1 if you give it alot of attention so it won't be lonely and die :(
your video has been the best ive come across on youtube! im definitely subscribing and thank you for the knowledge!
Your ferrets are ADORABLE
thank you!!!
Ferrets have been my favorite animal since I was four, amazing video!
Thanks so much for this video. I'm just about to get a ferret homey, and am doing buttloads of research so that I can be sure to get everything right. This has been very helpful. Thanks!
I’m looking forward to getting two ferrets and this is one of the most helpful videos I’ve seen
I was thinking about getting a ferret and this video really made me realise what I’m getting into and cost of everything so thank ypu for this
I’m hopefully getting a ferret soon and I’ve been researching a lot and I found this video quite helpful, thank you
I actually have a few questions!
1. How much money overall does it cost to buy a ferret and all it’s necessary equipment right from the start?
2. How much money do I need to be earning to be able to really support them?
3. Should I wait until after I graduate from college to get them?
im going to get a ferret in a month or 2 and i did 4 years of research i want to give them a nice life so this is a great video thx!
great video only thing i want to point out is whether you get a pet froma breeder or adopt you are still SHOPPING
Absolutely wonderful video! I've done lots of research in preparation to get a ferret (or two) and your video has been the most helpful *by far*! Many thanks!!
Food is at 6:07 for reference.
SO much work. Thanks for posting!
thank you for this video, its very informative!
Tink Smith thank you for sharing!!!
Where did you buy your ferret from I am looking x
I get wyson epigen 90
Can't wait to get my elongated baby!!
I'm gonna get a ferret this Christmas. SO EXCITED!!
@Harrison Browne you should totally do a video over the cleaning of their things
You are a well educated fuzzy parent! So happy to see this video,
Wow, probably the best and most honest -, straightforward guide I have found so far. High five and thank you so much for getting me to a decision. I have two very loving and meschevious boys waiting too come back to my, or shall I say there new home. Fantastic advice 😋and thanks again!!!!
Amazing video!! Thank you for all the great hints and tips!!
i have 2 ferrets and a polecat all adopted , they are awesome creatures ..
Thank you so much dude! I'm planning on buying a ferret soon!
I agree about the litter box but also people don’t seem to understand they just back up into the corner so they don’t understand why their ferret won’t go in the litter box and so the owner is actually cleaning more than a litter box and the pee pads are easier to clean
Also people say that Marshall’s ferret brand is very bad for them what is your input on that? I feed mine Marshall Because she is a Marshall ferret
I also give my ferret a bath once a week and and she smells good all week and if she rolls into her pee because she tends to do that a lot I will rinse her off
Also you have earned a subscription from me because you are the only nice ferret teacher on UA-cam
Also I give her free roam unless she is in her play in but her free roam is always only limited on one room she sleeps in a bathroom with a blanket and her cage is open and she can get her food and water and during the day she plays in a room that only has a couch and a coffee table
Your transition in two years is amazing
I had ferrets when I was a kid but I moved and my mom gave them to a friend also I too care of a sugar glider for a week and did a ton of research like a TON. I’m still young(only 14) but I think that I’d be a good ferret own so I rlly rlly want one
did you get one?
juni’s edits no I didn’t :((
I don't think I am responsible enough to own a ferret. my mom used to have a ferret and she put a harness on it and she took it for walks and apparently it loved it.
If I'm a beginner ferret owner should I start off getting just one ferret and then maybe another in the future?
If you can give the ferret LOTS of attention then it's fine but they're social creatures and it's best if they have companions.
Mangokat yeah I have one ferret so i ferret proofed my room and let him run around sometimes for like 2 ish hours a day
They get really lonely, if you have two they kind of occupy each other and are much happier
Hi, you've got great info, with the exception EVERYONE else says 'either free roam, or have them out 4 hours a day.' You said 2, so please increase they're out of cage time 🙂
What bothers me is how often you reference against hamsters!
"They can't live in hamster cages!"
"They're not like hamsters!"
My hamster, Daisy, lives in a 200 qrts bin cage with around 700 square inches of floor space!
Hamsters need at the BARE minimum 450, and that's not worth calling 'a tiny hamster cage.'
Please STOP saying bad things about hamsters, you've never had one, you don't know how sweet, energetic, darling, and did I mention ADORABLE they are!
It will also make them smell A LOT less so if you still live with your parents and they don't want the smell, a raw diet can reduce their smell to that of a dog
soooo cute. oh and the ferrets are pretty adorable as well😄
I definitely would love a ferret now! I love that you made this video it really helped Tysm 🥺💗
Really good video , usefull information , no bullshit story ..keep on going with your channel..love ferrets 😍😊
I don’t recommend you use shampoo for ferrets but a good alternative for bathing is an oatmeal bath.
What do you spend on vet bills? I just got a 3 month old ferret, and I am going to take him for a check up and vaccines
Hello 👋🏻 I'm new here I'm also a new kit mum I've just got 2 boys there brothers and I'm so in love already with them I've loved watching this and anymore u do I just want to watch and read lots to learn all I can talking about smell so strange but I can't smell anything bad lol yet my partner say's he can smell them I must be so in love I've gone nose blind I guess good for me 🤣 I just adore and love and respect any animals I find them better to hang with than some humans 🤣 I'm in the uk I've never had a ferret before this is my first time I have 3 dogs 2 birds a conure and finch 1 hamster and now 2 ferrets slow but surely getting my little zoo he he I am disabled I use wheelchair when out and I have crutches I adore all my baby's they give me life all my children have moved on with there lifes so animals are my baby's now 😂 I do still need to get my ferrets a better space to live just struggling with funds right now but they will be spoilt they still play outside in play pen we sit in garden with them and play with toys with them but they sleep indoors I'd like to do a UA-cam there so fun to watch play 🙂
You take such, such good care of them! They're lucky little babes. :)
You can use the scruff as an off switch to clip nails
