Lane Splitting (Filtering) Legally in Utah!

- UPDATE I'm getting word that this law does not go into effect until May 15th. That is not how the law is written but that's what people are saying. Just FYI
Utah passed a motorcycle lane filtering law this week, HB149. Lets try it out.
Rules:
Overtake vehicle in the same direction
Give right of way to overtaking vehicle
Be on a roadway with a speed limit of 45 mph or less
Overtaken vehicle must be stopped
Motorcyclist must travel at 15 mph or less
Movement must be made safely - Наука та технологія
This moves Utah up on my list of potential states I want to move to. It's been in my top five for a few years now, but this definitely moves it up to top three.
Good video, my man!
if you love crackheads and mormons then it’s the place for you!
One more data point, I contacted the bills sponsor to thank him and he also indicated May 14 as the effective date. Sounds like new bills are effective 60 day after the legislature adjourns unless the bill specifies a date.
Bruce is correct, it's legal today

(5)An individual may engage in lane filtering only when the following conditions exist:
(a)the individual is operating a motorcycle;
(b)the individual is on a roadway divided into two or more adjacent traffic lanes in the same direction of travel;
(c)the individual is on a roadway with a speed limit of 45 miles per hour or less;
(d)the vehicle being overtaken in the same lane is stopped;
(e)the motorcycle is traveling at a speed of 15 miles per hour or less; and
(f)the movement may be made safely.
Please know that lane filtering and lane splitting are completely different. Don't call it lane splitting because it might confuse people and not legal in utah. Lane filtering is legal in utah.
They are the same thing
May 15, 2019 is when the law goes into affect. Lol but it looks fun. 🤙🏼
Actually is the 14th...
I did not expect Utah to be second to legalize filtering seeing as it has a relatively short riding season compared to places like Texas and Arizona. Not complaining though! It’s made my daily commute much safer and quicker.
Hopefully it’ll be ushered in more quickly and spread across all 50 states now that Utah has gotten in line.
Please make sure you get all of the details in the law so we don't abuse it and lose it. Also is not available for two more weeks.
Can you lane filter in two lanes that are turning left?
Lane filtering is now legal lmao
that's awesome, Congrat from Taiwan
Hey I live right down the street from there
great news and hope texas can follow along
my grandparents live in that area you pulled out of in the begining lol
The law is not legal yet 😂
I guess there is a lot of debate over this. Some people claim they called the governor's office and they said it went into effect when it was signed but others say it's not till May. Who knows?
Dean Hansen May 14
Dean Hansen yeah but I think till May man because cops would not know right away and if they do it till May they will know by then hopefully but be safe sir
@@killermisa5366 good point
There was no date in the bill, so it doesn't go into effect till 60 days after the governor signs it. He signed it on March 21st 2019.
Make up 'Lane Filtering is now LEGAL' stickers. I have one on the back of my helmet 🇦🇺😀
Dude delete the video. It is not legal yet. You are posting yourself breaking the law. Not smart.
Nice mirrors, got the same ones on my Triumph. Can't wait till the 15th. I still have filtered anyways if there's no cops since the 1st of the month. Just prepare yourself for jealous mutha fussa's that are going to get triggered.
Watch out a lady almost hit me on redwood road
thats awesome brother! wish this would happen in indiana... i still do it regardless LOL!
i only do it on highways during rush hour lol.. always get 1 or 2 honks by triggered people LOL
Well they means I broke all the rules , Woops! the law wasn’t in affect , hi way 89 and I went above 15 mph but I didn’t do if often , and I felt real safe , there was only 1 driver silently protesting by staying close to the center so i couldn’t pass.👍😆
Don't do bro, just because they saw you do it, they will clump all motorcycle riders together. The bill failed in Atlanta in the past thanks to what people thought a few individuals would do.
Lol nothing legal in this vid
Legal doesn't mean it's smart. Hit someone's mirror and you'll wish you hadn't done it.
Plastic Apple I think it goes without saying that you should only do it if you’re certain you have enough room and can safely make it through a gap.
@@asasmolenski4262 I've been riding (and racing) for many years. Riding that close to other vehicles (especially the mirrors!) isn't always as fail-safe as many riders think. I've been on the receiving end while waiting at a traffic light in my car. The rider went down and fortunately only had some minor road-rash. The total repair bill though for both vehicles was over 5K. Have a nice day.
