I LOVE seeing and hearing these names from long ago. I used to sit on Saturdays and hear Peter Allen say those names; they were important to me. 😘😘
I’ve never seen Vespri in the theater! I’ve seen more than half of Verdi’s published operas onstage, so I’d enjoy seeing this before they close the box! I will be attending the Verdi Festival in Parma this Fall, and will see La battaglia di Legnano, among others. Very unusual. As for Caballe and Gedda, I did see them both onstage, but only on rare occasions.
The Metropolitan Opera at it’s very best…what memories! …so proud! …thanks for posting for today’s public…

Oooo! In my opinion one of the top 3 greatest and best Grand Operas of the 19th Century, or any Century, for that matter. Here given fine treatment, which makes the annoying cuts in the score all the more painful. Verdi should never be cut! Thank you. Love, love, love this!!!!
In 1967, the members of the Metropolitan Opera gave Vespri in a single performance in Newport, a concert version. The performance here was from the company's first staged version of the opera.
