When using multicut you can just click the right mousebutton to end the cut instead of enter. And instead of using insert edge loop you can hold down ctrl when using multicut.
6:30 just extrude the edges and merge them together to the center and then just add an edge loop or use the Crease Tool it will be a lot cleaner and faster
In 6:00 he cut loops but he can extrude that edges and merge them to the center and it's gonna make him 20 triengle faces and it's gonna make it a lot smother circle and it's faster then what he did
How about modelling something like a DSLR. They're fairly complex with all the buttons and the material texture. Maybe something like a Canon 700D, not too complex, but not easy at all either.
Absolutely agree. I've done Nikon d3300, with texturing and rendering. Definitely the hardest thing in 3D I've done, ever. After that comes automotive modeling. But I guess tutorial on that would last days XD
Hey, Mike great video. I would love to see some high to low poly bakes from you. These models reminded me a lot of some of the Substance Painter videos I used to watch when they bake high poly UVs on low poly models so they can easier manipulate the textures/materials. Thanks Mike, let me know! Safe travels as well.
in a model we do everything that is visible have quads but when we onn polycount it shows as many triangles as but none of it is visible in the view port . where they are hidden then
Little question, request. I'm moddeling a robot, with hydrolic pisons for movement. My question: i've moddeled a cilinder and piston. Rigged it and apllied an aim constraint between cilinder and piston. How can i duplicate the cilinder / piston including rig and constraint. There are about 30 pistons on various joint. Lot of work to make them seperately.
Mijn budget is ong. 1000 euro
Both are beneficial to learn - this sort of tutorial (and many of Mike's tutorials if I am honest) are suited to learning high-poly meshwork, and basic workflow practices, but the problem is that most aren't suitable for game props, and most of Mike's tutorial models would be a nightmare to unwrap. You should learn it all, and then learn how to make low and high poly meshes from your model, and how to retopologize in order to make your maps from your high-res mesh, and use your low-res mesh for your game or scene or whatever. I love Mike's videos, and I wouldn't have learned how to model in such a short time without them, but I think they are generally suited for work that involves rendering inside Maya using materials like Mental Ray materials etc, than they are for unwrapping and high+low poly game ready props.
Thanks Mike for the great tutorial! I also have a question regarding hard and soft edges. So is Insert Edge Tool the only one to use to harden edges? As it increases the polygons a lot. I also watched you Crease Tool tutorial and I couldn't achieve much of the hard edge with it too. Is it about the topology in this case? I'm a total beginner, so I may sound stupid, just let me know if I misconceived it. Thank you in advance.
Maria, you do not sound stupid at all, no worries. Basically you are right, it is either adding edges or using the crease tool. If you can add polycount, use insert edge
Great video, i was wondering if you could make a video on an easy way to make a head. I have almost prefected body modeling, but cant seem to figure of making a face that looks decent.
Turbopasta yeah, ive been having kinda a hard time. But i havent tryed other software yet. So ill check that out. Thanks for the advise. Though i think it still would be a cool video
balaji manohar I think it's related with recording software, you have options like show cursor hide cursor, highlight clicks etc and i guess mike has show cursor turned off.
You barely explain anything. All I see is you're using existing topo to hope "make" something look good. You'd be better off just pressing the "rec" button before starting a real project like a spaceship and just post a few 2 hours long video without any editing if you're lazy. It will be far more impressive than you trying to justify your skills with an abstract ball

Nothing happens at that time. He just adds edge loops for when he's smoothing.

Exactly bro, thats a better way to clean it up
@@ofekdavid1757 yes but lots of people get too scared of triangles.
U can also just do select face > edit mesh > Poke face
6:00 you can Just select n-gon and hit poke button, it Will automatically make all necessary cuts
Where is the poke button?

could you model an amphora? I'm not sure how you would go about making the handles for one.
how are the small triangles in the buttons quads at 6:28? theres only 3 sides?
Triangles are not a problem
Mike Hermes thanks Mike :)
Hello, how I can hide edges of back faces?
hi sir what is non manifold geometry in uv , it will appear if we build a model in booleans , how to uv for this type of things
Thanks you for teaching
Great love it ur modelling method is so easy and also useful pls teach me how to wire frame animation in maya pls pls
Awesome Mike, great tutorial as always!! Thanks
Thanks
My English not good but mike thank you soo much you are a great teacher maya love from pakistan thank soo much mike.
مہربان الفاظ کے لیے آپ کا بہت شکریہ
How to increase area selection?
in a model we do everything that is visible have quads but when we onn polycount it shows as many triangles as but none of it is visible in the view port . where they are hidden then
One quad is two triangles
how did you cut off the half of the sphere? when I do that only a quter is being cutted
a quarter ?

Good tutorials love your work
see the video box it has 4 walls also soooo
Dear Sir How I can share some problem with you which i am facing in maya during modeling
Sure, my email is mikehermes@mhtutorials.com

Pretty cool ideas. Definitely can use some of these techniques next time I'l messing around trying to design something on the fly.
Please can you make more tutorials focused on texturing. Thanks
I will
i got a really stupid question but still asking it , whats shift period?... i dont get it
Hold the SHIFT key and the . key

Mike high poly is beneficial or low poly

Griffin Leadabrand thanks for the information
Allah is benificial

how to render as video??

to be fair faces can be tough in maya, lots of people like using Zbrush or Mudbox for things like that. A tutorial would be really cool though.

No. He can't in his character modelling video he said he doesn't do character modelling which is why he modelled a wooden mannequin.
thank you for the video, leaned some neat new tricks
Nice. .
thx 4 tutorial !
Very welcome
This is helpful tutorial. Can you make tutorial on modelling snail shell.
Great love it more complex objet 👌 thanks
Nice!
Thanks Martin
can you pls crank up the audio a bit? too hard to listen.
Ok friend Good strip
Why i can't able to see u r mouse cursor... Do you hide it to us for u r secret work... 😂 😂 😂

Daksh The King o k..
I fixed that so new tutorials ( when I get back ) should be good
where render or tutorial just modeling and pub
To be honest, before u duplicated that half-sphere, I thought u were making a female character.
LOL, nope
