Honestly, thank you so much. I have had issues with UV's for a long time, no matter who explained them to me, I just got so confused, but your tutorials have been amazing, it's all starting to make sense now. Thank you!!!!
I love your teaching style and pacing. Almost like talking to a knowledgable peer with just a tinge of relaxed banter to make things interesting. Thank you very much for your generosity,
Hey APP. Great tut! One thing I would recommend is when you want each UV to be the same texel density for accuracy. It's best if you click on a UV shell > Go into UV Toolkit and under Transform + Tools > Click on the "Get" button which will tell you your density > Then click on all the UV shells and next to the "Get" button, press "Set" :)
That's really wonderful to hear! There is so much to learn about 3D, so I'm thrilled it's helping! By the way, I'm working on an eBook to accompany the videos. You can find out about updates at academicphoenixplus.com and sign up for my newsletter. :)
I always use to do auto UV's and try and hide all the seams as much as possible, LOL. Thank you for making this tutorial now i have a good idea on how to UV map objects.
You are very welcome! I hope it's helpful. By the way, I'm working on an eBook to accompany the videos. You can find out about updates at academicphoenixplus.com and sign up for my newsletter. :)
I'm confused. What was the tool you used in 2:34 - 2:40 and other times? I see its symbol in the toolbar that shows it being used, but I don't know the name of it. I don't know how you closed the gap.
The cylindrical projection only does half a cylinder. You want to close it, so that it wraps around the whole object. I explain it here: ua-cam.com/video/LuKWbDweFY8/v-deo.html Hope that helps!
Thank you Monica, really good tutorial. My model will be smoothed so do I have to create the UV's after its been smoothed or can I do it before applying SubD?
I've recently found your tutorials and as an aspiring 3D artist, they are life savers your videos are so clear and constructive i'm so grateful for your work ! Quick question, sometimes i accidentally click off the manipulator tool (i think thats what it's called, the tool which allows you to alter the projection of the UV's), how do i get that to reappear so i can use it again.
How can you select faces, edges, vertices, UV map pieces to move them around inside UV editor? In my case, I can't do anything of the above. If I go to select menu, it gives me the only option to select the whole UV map and move it around. I cannot select individual faces, edges or vertices or several pieces of my UV layout and move them around. Either the whole bunch of UVs or nothing. How do enable all those select abilities in UV editor?
Thanks soo much Monica. I have always wanted to know how to transfer UV's. I have tried using the "copy UV's" in the UV Editor and it never worked. Thanks!!!
I love your videos so much pls marry me k thnx .-. On a fr note, I switched my major to computer engineering since art college was hell so being able to catch up on animation again from my own home without needing to deal with super rude "adults" is so nice. Thank you for always posting!
You are very welcome Box King! I'm glad it's helpful :) Learning both engineering and animation is a great skills. You are known as a Tech Artist, which is a great field to be in!
In a studio, if you are doing a very big asset with 5 or more materials, do you still try to keep all of them in 1 UV space? If they are getting very tinny, will it effect the texture quality?
@@shakina904 Yes, the situation will vary. It depends on your texture size. or the allowed texture resolution. Keeping them all in one is preferred by most, an small assets such as a chair/table should be in 1 with no issue. Works great with 1k maps. (As long as you can do a good UV layout) I don't do 3D anymore, if you are trying to be a 3D artist in US, the market might disappoint you.
UVs will remain! Nothing will happen to them, unless they are overlapping. Then there will be an issue. But as long as the UVs are separate, they should be good even when combined.

When I learned about transfer UVs, I was thrilled! It's a very helpful tool. :)
Well, Now I am just as thrilled as you are, YAY!!! :-)
will this help me if i am taking my model to substance painter for texturing ?
That's a good question Sarath. Absolutely. If you want your objects to be textured, you need to UV map your item. Have fun with Painter!
Thank u!
You are very welcome, Akash! Glad it was helpful. :)
G is your shourtcut or its default ?
'G' is the shortcut to your last command. So if you extrude, G will extrude again. Hope that clarifies!

tku so much
You are very welcome, David :)
What if you combined all of these objects after you fix the UVs?
UVs will remain! Nothing will happen to them, unless they are overlapping. Then there will be an issue. But as long as the UVs are separate, they should be good even when combined.
