I have a boat that was built entirely with hand tools on Shack Island for the fishing of Salmon. I use it regularly.

Beautiful video, and not as full of incorrect information as most out there. Thanks.

Thanks for watching. There’s some research I found about Japanese Canadians first owning these in the early 1900s and then losing them when they were placed in internment camps during the second world war. I couldn’t quantify, so I left that part out!

@@Nanaimore Good choice Scott. There probably were Japanese Canadian shack owners in the 1910's and 20s, but ancestors of the current owners were using the islands and building new cabins by the 1930's.

Are you saying that you can't fix them up or renovate when needed ? Its nice to keep them original but its a shame if they are just left to fall apart . Thanks for the video !!

    Was this a squatters community?

Yes it is. And you’d be surprised how most of them were taken over.

I don't know why you are talking about people protecting their dogs walking there because the sign at the entrance clearly states that no dogs are allowed. I was just there today. The first thing I saw was a sign saying No Dogs. The second thing I saw was a person with a dog. Can't trust dog owners to obey the rules
