My brother lost his life on that river. Yellowgate sounds like the place were my brother drowned. He wss jumping across the rocks, slipped and struck his head . But could have happened at Red Gate. The year was 1956.
I have lived in Nanaimo my whole live 37 years and didn't know about a nude section on Nanaimo River. I haver been to the red gate so many times and even saw the sign but didn't know the meaning of it. Very interesting
Super informative video many thanks , I am headed to Vancouver Island this fall in mid September for 4 weeks ,Traveling from Ireland , Ive fished many rivers on the East coast including the Little Qualicum, Oyster, Campbell to name but a few .. Are there any good fly fishing spot that you could recommend on the Nanaimo River ? I cannot believe I haven`t checked out this river considering I`ve been visiting the Island for 10 or more years .
Yup. If you watch a bit further I highlight that spot. I just hate walking down that cliff and there’s a encampment on that side as well that I avoid. You can see it up on the cliff side in the video at the 6:45 mark.
Born and raised in Nanaimo. Swam at all these spots. No offence but my god there is way better spots. But I won’t tell where. Please don’t share are secrets anymore
You're DEFINITELY not too old for the Adventure Course, Scott!!! Drop us a line we'd love to have you out in 2025 🙂
I’m on it!!! I’ll come see you guys in the spring. Looking forward to some bungee, jumping as well ❤️
This is a very good video. Informative and highlights some of the great places close to Nanaimo.
Thank you, Sir. It would be great to have a coffee one of these days. Love you content!!!
@@Nanaimore That could be arranged but maybe change the coffee to beer.
Reminder to pick up your trash and pack out what you pack in.
Thank you!
Correction, the first place you described is actually called cassidy bridge. There is a spot called the trestle. Its off nanaimo river road.

Isnt there access to Yellowgate from Nanaimo Lakes Road as well?

I jumped off the "Goats bluff" when I was young and dumb. Heard later a kid died there.
There’s a lot of interesting, sad stories if you talk to the local old timers. I hope everybody takes precaution. Thanks for watching, and commenting!
Try keeping local spots secret
It amazes me the drawbridge mentality that people have sometimes.
