    I do like your videos, with a balanced informative way. I have to correct you when you say Ram is the only manufacture of trucks that offer Bilstein as factory equip. Also in no Toyota fan boi by any stretch, but on the TRD packages plus I believe some Nissan PRO4X you also get them!! I may be wrong, but seem to remember that! Also adding Bilstein shocks on anything will be an improvement!

    I have a 15 F350 drw with the fx4 setup that just rolled past the 30,000 mark. I've noticed two problems that my Ford dealership checked and gave me the "its within spec" song and dance. The first issue was cupping on both inboard front tires. I took it to Ford and had an alignment done. The service advisor said the alignment was fine and went on to tell me that it's a known issue with these trucks. His advice to me was to rotate the tires more often.
    The other issue was the feeling of the front end (I bought this truck new and remember what it felt like). Small bumps, freeway driving (expansion joint) or potholes really upset the front end . It seemed to take more time for the front end to settle down. After reading several blogs about tire cupping and the killer "death wobble" I felt like it could possibly be either shocks or worn bushings. All the bushings were in great shape and the tie rods looked good.
    I had just watched your video about the Bilstein 5100's and figured it was time to swap the old Ranch'o's out. As you said, it's a pretty straightforward job. I took all four of the Rancho's and cycled them twice. I left all four in my truck bed fully compressed. After 24 hours, all of the shocks were still fully compressed. All four went to the trash can after I saw that.
    I took it out on a test drive and it felt like it did when new. The potholes, bumps and expansion joints didn't unsettle the front end as it used to. To me it was a noticeable improvement. Will the new front shocks take care of the tire cupping? Only time will tell 🤔. I enjoy your videos, keep up the good work....

    I did this Bilstein four shock upgrade on my 99 F250 SD Lariat Ext Cab V10 @ 145,000 miles and added a Bilstein steering dampener. They are a high quality product. The most noticeable difference was under a load for me. My truck still has the like new feel when I drive it. 👍👍🇺🇸

    I also own a 2016 F450, when pulling my large 5th wheel the truck rides GREAT. When I am not pulling I lower the tire pressure by 10 PSI ... 90 PSI to 80 on the front and 80 PSI to 70 on the duallys because the ride is so rough I will have to look into the Bilstein 5100 shocks.

    This is the video that brought me to your channel.
    I put them on my 2006 Sierra 1500 SLT Z71 last year and they were fantastic. Then some jackass ran a light at 110kph and nearly killed me.
    Now I’m about to put the same shocks on my 2003 Silverado 2500HD LT 4x4. Looking forward to the improved ride.

    Its common for OEM's to put their part number on parts they don't manufacture themselves. Many specialty part's/assemblies are not made by the OEM but are spec'd out by them. This is done for many reasons, like trace ability for quality control, not only for the vehicle build but also the individual part/assembly build. Also, this a way to make it easier to look up a part number for replacement, keeping track of spec changes over the years, operator/station build information, etc.

    I enjoy watching your product reviews and test drives. Based on the videos I have watched I believe when and if you decide to upgrade to the 2017+ many of these issues will be addressed. Ride quality, cab vibrations, def gauge, push to start, door seals, and soft open tailgate have all been upgraded. Same Rancho shocks though...Ride quality on the F450 is always going to suffer with the 19.5 wheels and tires.

    I've run bilstein and had a rough ride. The best I've ever had are Icon shocks (what I run on my 16 f250).... hand made in the US and they are great. But most people have don't know the difference dont get fooled by the placebo effect. IMO Icon all the way. Shocks have everything to do with ride less than your springs. I've swaped and lifted many trucks.

      Powerstroke 6.7: I'm very familiar with ICON shocks. I've used them on other trucks I've owned. To me, they felt literally identical to Fox 2.0 shocks in terms of calving. A little to harsh for my taste personally

      On a side note, I'm only lifted 2.5-3" stock tires & wheels and made a trip to Dallas from Austin for Fathers day and averaged 20mpg on the way there and about 19.5mpg on the way home, unloaded. Loaded I'm getting 12 give or take towing 10K or less. A cool video would be what the big 3 are getting for mileage.

    Hi BTBR, I have been looking for solutions to ease the bumpy ride primarily in the back seat of my new 2017 RAM 3500 Limited Mega Cab. I was looking to have the Sulastics installed on my new truck, but after visiting a very reputable frame and alignment shop in Huntington Beach, CA, they recommended dropping the rear tires air pressure from 80 psi to 45-50 psi when not towing. I could then air them back up while towing my big 5th wheel. They also recommended these same Bilstein 5100 series shocks due to their industry leading incredibly fast valving at highway speeds. They also dissuaded me from the Sulastics for which I went to them in the first place, per your video. They told me, while the Sulastics will help, they won't give me the results I am after for the $$$. They said they would put them on for me, but felt I would not be as impressed with the results as much as I expected. The Sulastics, being essentially "heavy duty rubber bands" supporting the rear of my 8500+ pound truck will wear out after 2-3 years and need replacing. Another interesting thought is that my RAM dealer offers to refill my tires with Nitrogen for free whenever needed, which I suspect is another way to get me into the dealer so they can find another way to sell me something. This same shop explained to me, that while Nitrogen is an inert gas which does not expand with heat which is good, the new truck dealers do not inflate the new truck tires with Nitrogen in a vacuum environment, so there is still plenty of "normal" air in the tires. Just a heads-up to those who think they need nothing but Nitrogen in their tires.
    Thanks - Phil

      Phil Salsbery is it a srw or drw? Especially if it is srw I ran 45 to 50 psi in the rear and 55 in the front and it helped tremendously. I have a 2500 though so I have to deal with the low tire pressure light at all times.

    • @BassRacerx
      @BassRacerx 7 років тому +1

      if you are shopping older trucks I don't think chevy vs ford vs ram is super applicable because your primary concern should be about condition vs price the newer truck generations get more capable in several orders of magnitude so I would always recommend going for a newer truck even if You have to give some bells and whistles like leather/sound systems ect.

    I now own this truck, July 2020, and there is still no Bilstein listed exactly for a non lifted front shock. I have a part number of 24-186018. It does say 2 Inch lift, but their site does not list a zero lift shock for the 2016 F450. Any chance you can confirm the part number you used for this video? I have 4600's sitting in the cab of my 2015 f150 SC 5.0 right now. I would expect them to make a little more of a difference than on your 450. I've been getting some porpoising when towing my 6000lb TT. Hopefully they will dampen some of that over what I call the "soccer mom" factory shocks. Or at least change the harmonic enough to make things better. What do you think? (Small tow package, Equalizer hitch, D rated STs on the TT). Will also add Timbren bump stops for a little extra margin which should have no effect on non-towing I think. Just another layer of stability when the towing gets rough.

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  7 років тому +1

      Asher Stanton: Timbrens will definitely help, but with the F150s soft rear leaf springs, you'd probably be better with an Add a leaf or Super Spring added

    • @firebry23
      @firebry23 7 років тому +1

      Asher Stanton I put Firestone Ride Right 5000 airbags on my 2011 F150. I prefer airbags over adding a leaf you don't notice any ride difference when the truck is empty.(If you decided to up airbags on buy the kit with the higher rating. You don't have to run as high of pressure in them to carry the weight and you'll get a better ride.) Also D or E rated tires will help also. I get about 65k out of Bfgoodrich ko2 275/70/18

      I use to work for brembo in their rotor factory. Usually each oem manufacturer requires their own logo and the brembo logo is not put on. Take any dodge mini van and look at the rotor, you will not find a brembo logo anywhere, but brembo makes them all. You will find a brembo part number on the hat, but unless you worked for brembo, you would never know what it meant. This goes for almost every part on a vehicle. The vehicle manufacturer makes just a handful of products anymore.

    QUESTION: What are your thoughts on leveling kit for front end and going with slightly larger tires? Factory tires are 275/70R18 Firestone Transforce HT. I'd like to go with BFG KO2 or Toyo A/T II in a 295 (same size as my '99 Ford F-250 PSD Lariat CC that I've been driving for the last 18 years). Many thanks! -Dave

      Dave Smith: thanks! I'm not a big fan of leveling kits unless you also replace the alignment caster shims to return your steering angle to the factory positioning. Otherwise, it will make your steering feel loose and like you're steering on a ball.

      Have you done any videos on leveling or lift kits? That would be very technical and interesting. So I guess I'll be limited to the 275/70R18 factory tires. I don't like them. They look like bicycle tires on such a heavy duty truck. :(

    Put 5100’s on my F150 today and have not had chance to drive it yet. Want to get wheel alignment done first. I probably won’t be able to sleep tonight lol.

    Hey Big Truck Big Rv, i have a question. So my Dad has a 2014 f-350 King Ranch, and i was wondering what is the difference between a f-250 and f-450?

    • @grantfleming2629
      @grantfleming2629 7 років тому

      *f-350, besides that it is a one ton

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  7 років тому +1

      Grant Fleming: F450 can tow roughly 15,000lbs more (nearly twice as much), has an additional 3000lbs payload capacity over th F250, a much stronger rear axle, 4:30 gearing, much bigger brakes, a much beefier front frame section and commercial 19.5" wheels and tires, plus a widened front axle

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  7 років тому

      Grant Fleming: Depending on the year, the difference are similar to an F450 if its a dually. in 2014 if you're referring to both trucks being a SRW truck, then its mainly payload capacity and tow rating. The F350 generally has an overload leaf spring standard as well as a taller rear suspension block and low gearing. That's about it though.

      P J With 19.5 tires Michelins have the best ride, the stock Continental tires on F-450/550 trucks are horrible they ride like crap, never cheap out on buying 19.5 tires that are used on your steering axle.

    Your videos are great! Just bought a 2016 f350 6.7L to pull my 36ft grand design TT and am in love with it! Would love for you to do a video on diesel delete kits. It seems like all the EPA regulations are horrible for the engine and your thoughts would be appreciated!
