For those of us in the deep South, like Southern Florida, one mistake is fishing too fast, especially relying on reaction baits. I find worms or especially drop shot rigs fished extremely slowly just in the shade line below the weeds or at the first drop off can be much more productive.
I remember as early as 10 years ago when fish would start schooling 1 hour before sunset and go until dark, they'd blow up on every point or roadbed. These days I don't hardly see any fish school for more than 5 seconds, and I fish some of what supposed to be the best lakes in the southeast. It just proves to me how bad lakes have gotten and electronics just make it to where we can still catch them. Fish numbers are way down and people fishing is way up. I wish it would go back to where fishing wasn't cool and only hicks did it
Our lakes are becoming more populated. Years ago, my favorite creeks were quiet and pristine. Now, million plus dollar 5000 square foot lake cabins, and giant wake boats have taken over.
I agree. People are spending like $10k on electronics and the tourneys are absolutely ruining the fisheries. They slay the bass and toss em back. I’ve come behind a tournament and there’s dozens of bass just floating on the surface. Sad. I’ve started to fish a couple lakes where gas powered boats aren’t allowed.
High heat in summer = long sleeve, hooded , UPF protective performance shirt and a brimmed hat + for protection from sweat in eyes- a bandana folded up from a triangle shape creates a sweat absorbing band. I have a few of the water soak cooling wraps/ headbands too.
My buddy and I fish at night more than anything. I always suggest going to your channel for anyone I talk to. If I start seeing people out on the water we fish, I'm blaming you guys! Thank you for all your videos, they have definitely stepped up my game!
This is awesome info, I always caught flak from the “older” trout guys cuz they always went to their spot and would just fish it from a chair all day without bites. The fish ain’t there I’m movin til I find ‘em. Move move move find them and fish ‘em. People get skunked cuz they just aren’t willing to find the fish.
My biggest mistake aligns with your comment on taking the time to fish a bait looking for the fish. I used to tend to switch too quickly versus fish the bait then come back thru with another later. Love your videos. They have increased my catches and enjoyment of the sport. Thank you!
My biggest mistake has been not moving more offshore in the summer. I used to live on the banks year round but now I’m going where the fish actually are. Thanks for the great video!!
I kayak fish and I enjoyed shallow and shallow water drafting for bass, yes the summer time is hot “it’s payoff” and most of the time when I’m in or draft around trees or boulders and realized that when I’m in a cooler area I intend to catch fish.”, like you said in the shades , but these shades were in the right direction of the wind . I hope it makes sense. Most of my skills is from your show
Been 105 + here in Texas for the last 30 days. I go 0400 to 0800 yesterday I caught 12 bass from 3 to 4.5 and was home by 0830. How does that song go? "I did it my way." My local lake has no natural shade for bass.
Thanks for the tips!! I tried night time fishing in TX, but the mosquitoes swarm my navigation lights in huge numbers. No matter how much bug juice I put on, it is nearly impossible to enjoy the experience.
I used to build houses & then commercial construction for years & years so the elements, hot, cold, rain, wind, whatever. Doesn't bother me. Its all in our head if you let it bother you. I think at least. I kayak fish 12 months out of the year usually 2 times a week. No tournaments. Just love mother nature, fishing & being on water. Few weeks ago I caught 7lb 6oz, then a 5lb 8oz & then a 8lb 6oz including another 12 small largmouth. Was the best day I've ever had! In same small no name lake, local to me. I have a significantly big bass than that 8.6 jump off a week ago. Its full of big largmouth. Noone knows their there! Try & keep it that way, I tell everyone that asks where I catch these big bass when they see pictures. That their from one of big names lakes... Don't wanna blow up& destroy one of my favorite little honey holes
I only fish on weekends and 11am-8pm most lakes have so many pleasure boaters I couldn’t be bothered to be out there. Normally I launch before a tournament (5:30-6) and pull out right before they do (11-1)
Super informative video! I really enjoy the videos where you talk generalizations that each individual can apply to their specific fisheries. One of my biggest summer downfalls is relying too much on finesse baits, but you guys have been opening my eyes to throwing more reaction baits and man does it work! Thanks again for all the FREE & extremely helpful insight!
My biggest mistake is staying shallow too long and not moving offshore quicker in the day. My local lakes have 0 vegetation but they do hold big bass that seemingly want nothing to do with shallow water when it is boiling hot.
@@tacticalbassin yeah we’re not sure last year was awesome at LOP. My son is obsessed with your channel he’s gunna freak when I tell him you talked to us. We will be out tonight. Thanks for all your work it really helps.
One time I was fishing a dog that was being worked on, bang and hammers Zaza's everything and I still caught a fish from under there that was about 3 lb
If I'm loading all my gear and getting on the water I'm out a few hours before dawn and sometimes stay till midnight. Loading my canoe on the car and gear in the car, I'm sticking it out for a long time. Just bring enough food, drink and stay comfortable as best I can. Mid day jump in the lake or soaking my shirt a few times for sure. I'm a bit of a maniac though.
I keep hearing before sunrise during the summer is the best time to fish. I live in NH and it's been hot and humid here. I spent the other day fishing from 6:00 AM to around 2:00 PM and caught 10 smallies in the late morning/ early afternoon around the shaded bank in a pond, all on a 6" plastic worm. Like your channel!
Id love to be able to fish under docks, but the docks on our lake are gloating docks, and have a ton of cables holding them in place, so there are constant snags underwater. Its super difficult to fish them, besides just along the sides.
Matt, Tim I'm waiting on that annual or biannual night fishing show?? Hit us with some new night fishing techniques. I know you guru's are hearing some new stuff.
Don't be surprised if you catch flack for saying Snagging. I'm sure it's slang for catching, but guys will envision a weighted treble hook, and fish with rips in their back.
Tip for night fishing: be careful. Weird stuff happens at night. Aside from the obvious snags and running into stuff, I encounter more lawlessness at night. Also, make sure you're allowed to fish there after dark. You can get in trouble for trespassing if it is enforced 😵
I haven't closed down the guide service but have put it on hold for the time being. We're on the road non stop filming new content and it's not feasible right now to do both. However, if the email request is there I'll see it the moment I start back up. 👍🏼
So cal is the WORST for fishing.Ppl making the regulations never fished a day in their lives. Most lakes open too late, close too early, aren't even open year round,or even all week (my home lake closed four months a year and can only fish wed ,Sat,sun..smh
Damn that sucks sorry dude. I am from Bay Area but live in South Carolina and there are places to fish all over and any time. It’s really nice here and we just couldn’t afford Cali anymore.

Waaayyy too many tourneys. For all species. Live scope hasn't helped either.
Electronics are the main reason the numbers are down. I miss the 2D only sonar days.

That’s weird. In my neck of the woods, bass populations have exploded. I’m catching more fish and bigger fish than I ever have.

Those long sleeved hooded UPF's are a game changer. Just got one this year and I don't know how I fished without em all these years

I caught a big owl on a N Z Crawler night fishing recently. 🙃
Lol 😂 I caught a blue herring with a crazy crawler night fishing 🎣. It’s also a big bass killer
Very true all this makes good sense

Grass Valley Ca here it’s been tough at lake of the pines this year. Hopefully watching this gets us to break our slump.
That’s the lake I grew up fishing. Hard to believe it’s gotten tough. I’m sure all the new pressure and tournaments have something to do with it.

Super guilty of bailing on reaction baits real quick when I’m out in the heat. Barely give the frog a shot and switch to the ned or senco.
I agree with the night fishing. I'm done with getting cooked.
Really appreciate these informative videos, thanks

Like most marinas you cannot fish around the docks
There's more docks than just at marinas.
Marina's don't own the water
