- Platform and technology sharing is certainly nothing new in the motor industry BUT in my 12 years as a motoring journalist, this is the first time that I have seen this - two identical cars on the market with only the badge setting them apart.
Its been so funny hearing consumers talking excitedly about this new car from Toyota when in fact the Baleno has been in our market for a few years already. Its a solid, honest offering but it is showing its age stacked up against new models on the market - it never really shot the lights out in terms of sales for Suzuki but watch that change now that it has a Toyota badge on it! - Авто та транспорт
I'm a huge fan of this channel 🙌🔥🔥🔥
Thank you so much for the feedback!! That’s super cool

Someone said on some social network platform the other day that “a Toyota badged Suzuki Jimny will be great.”
Who knows? 😁
No No No!! Hell no...
Solid review Marius. If I may ask, you used the phase "streets ahead"...did you get that from somewhere specific?
Thanks Chris for the positive feedback.
I am not sure I follow your question? Streets ahead has always been a fairly common description for something that is better than its competitors - so nowhere specific, just a common phrasing / analogy.
@@MariusRobertsProductionsHi Marius, could you kindly advise on the reverse issue, where Toyota won't fix it cause it a design characteristic, could you kindly advise what can be done
Which would be a better choice, 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual? Or either is fine?
I’ve got the auto and it’s smooth as butter
Look both are fine - as I said in the review this is not a new product but has been on the market for many years as the Suzuki Baleno. The engine and gearbox have also been around for ages so its tried and tested - the auto is very old school but that doesn't make it bad. If you live in a high traffic area then the auto always makes sense simply from a convenience perspective.
Between this and polo what would you choose?
Depends on you!! If ur JDM guy baleno is best nd if u want German mechanics, polo is also a good car!!
Sorry I have taken so long to reply - we have been on a shoot.
Look, the Starlet is the Suzuki Baleno - its been around for a long time so in that respect, the Polo is a newer car running with newer technology like small turbo engines and dual clutch transmissions. If you are living in Gauteng (at altitude and not down at the coast) the benefit of the turbo engine in the Polo makes a significant difference in the drive experience and performance. A better comparison to the Starlet / Baleno would be the Polo Vivo as that's old technology, no turbo engines etc.
BUT the Suzuki Baleno / Toyota Starlet are solid cars, well built with engines and gearboxes that have been tried and tested - you will have hassle free motoring with both.
Hope that helps...
@@MariusRobertsProductions This helps. ❤️
@@MariusRobertsProductions good day I live in a rocky area is it good climbing up hill?
@@MariusRobertsProductions what about the Suzuki Baleno and the Honda City cng?
Review the urban cruiser
Will do!!!
One of these days you'll see a Suzuki/BMW rebadged as a Hilux🤣😂
Haha well we do have a BMW rebadged as a Toyota already - the Supra - but to be fair, at least they two cars have VERY different styling, personalities and driving dynamics
Toyota is currently on SA hijacking list. Since the Baleno and Starlet are "essentially the same car" are they car parts interchangeable? Meaning could the Baleno car engine or be used for the Starlet?
100% its not 'essentially the same car' it is the identical car - only difference is the badge!
They are both the same cars and also manufactured in the suzuki factory so every part is same but obviously the suzuki dealership won't repair a toyota starlet and vice versa
It is stupid that a factory like Toyota sells literally identical car as Suzuki and from the plane it can be seen that it is the same car.
This has been happening across all brands but in the past it would be platform, engines & underpinnings that were shared & the designers left to style each brands unique look & feel. I have no problem with that but this badge swopping I am not a fan of…it’s lazy
@@MariusRobertsProductionsOther manufacturers at least change the lights, mask, spoiler or bumper and many other details, but this, as you say, is just a replacement for the manufacturer's signs.
