  • You may have seen the video of my lengthy 'discussion' with a JMPD (Johannesburg Metro Police Department) officer while I was reviewing the Aston Martin Vantage - it certainly created a fair amount of comment!
My reason for posting the clip was because I believed we were both in the wrong and that the situation could have and should have been handled very differently, but it also made me appreciate how few motorists actually know what their rights are in situations like this...cue Howard Dembovsky from Justice Project South Africa.

It's like my family we got stopped and the Police officer said to us switch off the car , we are checking your brake light . But in my head I like the lights will not illumate if the car is off . Then say's indicate's are working but the brake light [but how often do you check if your brake lights are working] is not working and he'll have to take disk so we said ok . Plus you could see he was looking for money , so we just said write the ticket to avoid any trouble.

That is always the best approach - be polite, ask them to write the ticket and usually they don't as its too much admin.

Thank you - that's awesome and mostly definitely the idea. Just so very sad of course the sudden passing of Howard a week ago - a true warrior for our rights and sorely missed

Mmm I guess just sitting quietly would have been the best approach BUT I am just not that guy and that day I happened to be filming and have time on my hands.
