Classic paradigm of Freddie's genius: blending exciting rhythmic attack, use of complex triadic structures, alternating between very tuneful, melodic phrases and then more dissonant, chromatic passages, and a bit of high note excitement for bravura drama. Perfect.
The great Mr Hubbard !!! So lucky to have him play many times and also talk to him and Don Braden and the rest of the band , amazing!!! Long live Great Jazz!!!
Wow, I've never been fortunate enough to hear this cat Don Braden, he can really blow. Love this song, love how Benny Green threw in a little giant steps in that very cool solo. This band is very tight, the must have rehearsed this one at least for 5 minutes.:) Thank god for recording media because all these giants are passing on.
In 1975 freddie hubbard jazz artist I met at a club in chicago called "The Quiet Nights" Ihad an opportunity to speak with and since that conversation I was hooked on the music. He was the artist I was into. I will forever miss the man and his music.
@kittykatguy36 It has nothing to do with the quality of the amp or pickup... This video was shot in 1990... When upright basses are used in really high volume settings, they have to be amplified with this particular method to eliminate the disgusting feedback they are prone to causing. therefore wonky bass sound.
I mean, no need to be angry. I don't know what could have prompted the jump from making a silly comment to you calling me a lazy fuck. I am a real person. Would you say that to me if we were in the same room?
Benny looks so "green"...the sax player is stiff...and Freddie is 'skimming the changes"...but Freddie's last "good" years...lip gone now...for good...sad...
The lick is strong with this one.
kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
My jaw dropped when I heard it

Freddie"don't f around" Hubbard.
One of the greatest architects of hard-bop there ever was.
This is Cedar Walton's tune. One of my Favorites to play.

i go to the university of illinois and we had the pleasure of having carl allen visit us and give us multiple clinics! what a king
He play the changes with such clarity, which is rare here in England

One of my favorite charts to play with my JAZZTET!
Now I wish we could sound this good
Fantastic.
I couldn't agree more! I am writing a scholarly paper now on Hubbard.
日本で公演されていたんですね。 Freddie Hubbard(氏)の映像だけではなく、Don Braden(氏)の映像まで付いてくるのは良いです。
freddie we love you! r.i.p
Man he's a God
Not a god, just a really fine player. That's what happens when you are serious about your craft, and you practice a lot.
That bass sounds really electric...
However, great playing, great composition - thanks for posting this clip!
jazz libre freddi nace con las escalas en los años 60 y 70 .....verdadera leyenda....belleza del jazz
Best piano solo!
Man - 1990 - and he's STILL Killin!!!!
Always great.
freddie es un monstruo.
I think, he has the most stable time feeling in all jazz trumpeter. Especially in 8th notes.
RIP Freddy, such a great musician
Such great communication between Carl Allen and Benny
Um dos grandes nomes no jazz. É esse Freddie hubbard, um talento muito grande!! Tem uma boa articulação e frases boas.!!!

Did you have the great fortune to hear the group he had with George Cables? (and sometimes Junior Cook) That was dynamite!
Ele é o maximo!
R I P Freddie 12/29/2008

@keith3355
Hi, it was called The Quiet Knight -- remember the knight's armor in the corner?
@Jazacad haha his whole solo was arround it. awesome xD
My country approves! (Hopefully, I can't speak for all)
haha, I looked around to see if anyone else heard it.
@kittykatguy36
haha it was filmed in 1990

bolivia is the song title.
Is this Bolivia piece well known? Named after the beautiful country??? Can someone please teach me a 101 course...lol
I heard "The Lick" several times...
Anyone Know what size moutpeice freddie used and name?
Bruh spotted the lick at 0:22
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a Cedar Walton tune, is it not?
Yes it is..
Was this version released on any album? I’d love to listen it in better quality
real talk cuz homeboy is prolly doin some shit in da back dere!!!!
damn!! benny green looks like hes 12.....i mean he still does...hahaa
Juan Valdez And the bangs make him look medieval Spanish!
49 seconds
??? They don't play any changes clearly in England, or just the changes to Bolivia???
Boy, Freedie will be missed!!
No drum solo :(
Why is the video incomplete?
Apr.5,1990 at BLUE NOTE TOKYO (in Japan)
FREDDIE HUBBARD(tp)
DON BRADEN(t.sax)
BENNY GREEN(p)
JEFF CHAMBERS(b)
CARL ALLEN(ds)
sax plays melodic lines against this difficult progression ... great solo
Drummer is killing it!!! I wanted the hear the drum solo, but you ended it. Sad face.
Who is the drummer?
haha, freddie does it right after 0:20 and Don does right after 4:26
Why is the song called Bolivia?
Because neither Uruguay nor Argentina sound as cool!
@@kirtar098 You are so wrong, Uruguay sounds really cool. Much more you can imagine.
The bass amp makes him sound like he's playing a rubber band
I mean, no need to be angry. I don't know what could have prompted the jump from making a silly comment to you calling me a lazy fuck. I am a real person. Would you say that to me if we were in the same room?
that was for sure spit
there's no way he would've made no reaction to spitting blood on stage
and also 0:48
0:22 - 0:24 full version of it :D
the year of art blakey's death...
I find the repeated bass figure annoying. It needs to be reduced in level. Great performance though.
I would of smashed that amp if it sounded like that
its a shame bass amps and pick-ups were so shitty back then
Benny looks so "green"...the sax player is stiff...and Freddie is 'skimming the changes"...but Freddie's last "good" years...lip gone now...for good...sad...
I'm not into Nazi jazz, sorry.
