Artist: Freddie Hubbard Album: Sky Dive Song: Povo Year: 1972 With: Ron Carter Billy Cobham George Benson Keith Jarrett Ray Barretto Airto Hubert Laws (yeah)
Ahhh, where did the time go? Some fifty years later, and this ensemble of jazz titans and their music still radiates as much in 2023 as it did in the Golden Age of CTI, Van Gelder Studios, and the Mecca of studio and nightclub session jazz, New York City. What a great time it was!
I loved 60's & early 70's rock. Then KISS came along - BLAAAAAh!!!! - I started looking elsewhere and found this album......it was a new beginning for me. Thank God!!!!
i remember discovering this LP at a friend's house, played it all afternoon, forgetting i was there to visit his sister in law.....been a fan ever since, (of Freddie)
those records/jams sessions by CTI, gave me the strength to learn jazz and to play and improvise...thanks god for that music coming from the heart and soul....
It's amazing what can be done with just a couple chords. Love Ron Carter's bass in this and Keith Jarrett's keyboard playing. So funky. George's solo too..
You have a right to who you like. But when you listen to a Grant Green,Eric Gale,an Wes Montgomery. They are the professors an Benson is the student.(CLASS DISMISSED)😊😊😊
makes me think of a scene in an old detective movie like Dirty Harry, or somerhing. Where he's driving across the Bay Bridge in a big long black Lincoln, following the sunset
I was wondering that myself! I'm pretty certain it is Airto Moreira, the percussionist. He seems to be using a mix of Portuguese and English, he's mixed low and he has a strong accent. It sounds like th first thing he says is "sou um animal," I am an animal. Then some stuff in English about people being free. The name of the song is "Povo," which means "people" in Portuguese. Freddie could have gotten that from Airto. Maybe I'll have a chance to ask him soon!
CTI classic. Need I say more. The 70s had a lot of great jazz music.

No mistaking George’s tone. For me it’s always been what he does with the pentatonic scale.. so tasty. I’ve stolen many licks from him over the years
Mega excellent saaaaaaaa….Big up from Tahiti (French Polynésia)
Saw him do this with Stanley T, Herbie, Ron,Jack De,Eric Gale,
Eric Gale was a very underrated musician. I remember those CTI all star concerts.
