- One of Thailand's most famous street food noodle soup recipes. Khao Soi is a Thai noodle soup originating from Chiang Mai. It's creamy, rich and often called Thailand's version of laksa. Here's my guide to how to make it from scratch at home.

I’m Thai and I live in Chiangmai. I can say , this’s the REAL Kao Soi that’s we love! You have done such a beautiful meal! . Even I’m Thai but I never make the paste before . Almost of us using the instant one 😂
Thank you for making this video 🙏
Well said👌👌
คุณแม่นางเป็นคนไทยค่ะไม่แปลกใจที่นางทำอาหารไทยแบบคนไทยเปะๆ
Hii, hope you are fine! I bought the instant paste from chiang mai, but i don't know how to store it? If you have any advice plz
Agreed, I'm Thai and I'm from Chiang Mai also. I've never made Kao Soi chili paste myself before. It takes too much time to prepare and we always ended up buying the paste from the local market.
What that all being said. You've done an amazing job!
To me it looks like she just made red curry paste. How is it different?
My mom and I are headed to the Asian market tomorrow to make this soup for dinner! I’ve been a chef in America for a long time but have never had good guidance on Thai food, am so thankful for you, Marion!
Corey Blake Oh that’s so kind of you to say Corey 🥰 I hope you both enjoy this one!
Marion's Kitchen we love you! You’re so talented! We’ve gotten an entirely different Thai flavor at home than we ever hoped to!
In Chiang Mai I ate best food of my life... I remember this one! Is like heaven.. 💚
gavo1201 me too
Same here. This dish, in particular, knocked my socks off. The food all over Thailand was spectacular.
Super cheap!
Made this yesterday and hubby really loved it! I didn't have wonton wrappers so I fried the same (thin) egg noodles as garnish which worked well. Thank you Marion you make cooking look so easy.
I love cooking this soup, anything with coconut milk/cream is heaven in a bowl! 🍲
Joy & Zech’s World i hope your kids enjoy them too! They are cute!
What are the name of the red peppers
So true !!!!! 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
@@tiptop7327 and from thai too, Myanmar nowaday has a quite similar dish but not the same, That's why khao soi IS thai dish, The same reason as massaman curry, Which was originally india, and Thai people made it into a separate thai version similar but not the same
Khao Soy is my absolute favorite dish in Thailand. I have been waiting for this for a long time now.
I had the pleasure of finding a woman in Bangkok who made this soup. I tried it and was one of the best soups I've ever had. The taste was amazing. She has been serving this for 44 years and perfected it. Your recipe looks very good so will give it a try
I am Thai and live in Thailand but I always reach for your channel for Thai recipe ❤️❤️❤️
I enjoy watching you cook so much, when people do what makes them happy they just give off a beautiful energy.
Also that soup looks insane I want to try it someday
Aw thank you so much Amina :-)

My absolute number one dish in the world! I stayed in Chiang Mai for three months on an internship at the university hospital and became addicted on day two...
Thank you so much for this video! Now I can finally cure my withdrawal symptoms.
This is one of my favorite soups ever! So comforting!
I make something similar to this with prepared Thai red curry paste and spaghetti squash for the noodles. The texture of the “noodles” worked great with the spicy, creamy sauce.
I fell in love with this when I went to Chiang Mai! Thank you so much!
Miss Marion , I want to Thank You for some of Your Recipes , especially this one ! You have simplified it so we can follow along and even make it at home ! Love Thai food and will be shopping to make it this week end !!! 👍
Hi Marion! My boyfriend and I have recreated your recipes so many times, we're obsessed! Could you please do a simple laksa recipe please?
Thank you! So happy you've both been enjoying them! Laksa sounds like a great video to do. I'll add it to my list! Thanks for the suggestion :-)
this is the best recipe yet so down to basics and simple but still complex and wonderful this I have to make
Been binge watching your channel these past couple of days, but this one was the best yet! So excited to try it 😁
This looks absolutely incredible, I’ve never had this soup, but I know the flavors are amazing! I have an idea of how I’m going to make this and I can’t wait to share it with you! Thank you for sharing and well done 👍 👏
Had Khao Soi for the first time in Pai, a few days after leaving Chiang Mai. Crazy good soup. One of the best things I've ever eaten. Same goes with all southeast Asian cuisine honestly. Laos and Vietnam especially.
I just simply love your cooking 👍
The best chef ever! Such beauty in cooking every little details. I'm a big fan now! Thank you so much for bringing Authentic Thailand Flavours to our homes.
Thank you Marion. I love Noddle soup. I will make your recipe. Greetings from Holland
Omg I just made this for dinner and it reminds us of being in Thailand, Thank You for always bringing the great food.
Mmmmm, have this multiple times a week when I visit Chiang Mai. Delicious!
Made this today! Oh mygosh!!! It waaaaas incredible! My husband and I enjoyed soo much!Thank u Marion, you’re my favourite chef!!!! Xxx
Love Khao soi.
I live in the Bay Area in California and despite having dozens of amazing Thai restaurants, you rarely find khao soi on the menu, so I can't wait to try this recipe! When I first had it, I was blown away by how good it was! Thank you!
You're so welcome! I'm always so perplexed why more overseas Thai restaurants don't serve khao soi. I agree...it's such an unforgettable dish once you've tried it!
Nice! My recipe is similar. I just use flat wonton noodles and reserve about a quarter to fry for the garnish. And for spices I use only coriander seeds and Thai cardamom. And no lime leaf and no shrimp paste. And a hint of curry powder (it’s a dirty little secret I learned from a chef from Chiang Mai, believe it or not!). It completely lifts the dish and brings everything together. It’s a total “je ne sais quoi”. Crazy!
Wow, I found your channel yesterday and today you cook my home's food. That wonton warp thing is really a genius idea. For the noodle you can substitute with soba or pasta noodles. They're pretty close if you could find a freshly made one. Also, I alway add some brown sugar at the end. I used to live in UK for a year and US for another 5. Finding an alternate ingredients is kind of a hobby of mine.
Great tips Tokanya! Thank you so much for sharing!
On our list Chiang Mai day, I ate this dish and to totally fell in love with it. Going to make this verrrry soon, already sp so excited!
i've tried this recipe recently! its delicious!!! this is the third recipe i follow and all turn out so well
I eat this noodle soup here in California almost every week coz I love it. I spend a lot of money though and this is a good way to start making my own. Our Thai restaurant here serves this noodle soup with boiled egg and crushed peanuts on top of what you have garnished yours with. Thank you for sharing your recipe!
It does look like a Thai version of curry laksa but so much easier. I’m trying it tonight. Cravings satisfied
This looks so amazing and easy! Now if only I lived near an Asian market for some of those special ingredients 😭
It is so good!! I buy stuff from amazon and I have not had any issues yet. You can find some things at World Market or Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s if any of those are near you. You have to make this!
Marion you are simply the best
It looks like Curry Mee here in Penang Malaysia. Absolutely eye pleasing and heartwarming , thanks for this amazing recipe Queen Marion! Let the good times roll baby, oh yeah!!
it does taste totally different.
What you made is amazing! I’m Thai but I have never thought about making Khai Soi myself because of its complicated ingredients. Bravo!
This looks so delicious! I love your recipes.
I have bought all of the ingredients to make this for dinner .. I am so excited about it.
how was it?!?!?!

Absolutely delicious👌👌👌 I did overcook my noodles so that was my bad but the soup is absolutely flavourful and comforting..just a perfect bowl of noodle soup with not a thing out of place..just like in the recipe , I did made a double batch of the paste and made the next batch with chickpea which I served over jasmine rice and grilled eggplant.. HEAVEN👌👌👌
An Indonesian here, approved that Khao Soi is delicious. Shout out to Thailand cuisine!
I'll just come straight to the point- I love you and your recipes! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe, I made it for my family and they absolutely LOVED it! 💞

Areonda Morgan-Espinoza Thank you so much for watching! ❤️
I am salivating in a middle of the night just by watching this...
I'm trying this for dinner tonight (albeit with pre-made red curry paste, as I couldn't find most of the ingredients for your homemade version near me, sadly). Thank you for sharing this recipe!
Woooooooow that paste tho 🙌
Thank you for this beautiful recipe!
I'm from Australia and my Mum and I followed you on Masterchef. It's so great to see how far you've come and now I watch your videos all the time and cook your recipes. Love your work.

Can’t wait to try this. Thanks Marion.
This was amazing!!! Satisfied my craving. Absolutely easy to make and delicious! Thank you!
"I would recommend not smelling it; just using it", I died from laughing!! Great! For this, you won my subscription!!!
Can we substitute anchovy paste for the shrimp paste if we cant find the shrimp paste? Wonderful recipes - thank you. I just joined and look forward to your tutorials
Went to Chiang Mai last January. I love Khao Soi!!! Got to try it with the pickled greens as well. Yum yum
This recipe is spot on! Well done! ❤
This is exactly how to cook this dish! Love her!!!
I spent a month in Thailand (best trip of my lift) and this was by far my favourite dish I had while I was there! Its also so specific to Chiang Mai that its almost impossible to find it at any Thai restaurants in my city :(
this is so yummy! i love marion's recipes!
It looks really good.
Amazing videos! 👌🏻
Love love love your recipes! The ingredients in this one are a bit more complicated for my liking lol, but gosh that looks delish! I bet it's all worth it!!!
Don't forget that you can use store bought curry paste, so then you only need chicken, coconut milk, chicken stock and toppings.
I had beef and chicken khao soi in Chang Mai. Surprisingly had an awesome version in downtown Toronto too.
Yaaaasss I miss my Thai kitchen! Looks amazing 🤤
Those fried wonton sheets are a great idea!
What a fantastic channel. Well produced, great recipes and a wonderful host.
Oh that's super kind of you to say! Thank you!!
The most delicious dish I've ever tried and because addicted to, so much that I probably eat it twice a month , luckily I have found a restaurant that serves it!!
So happy I can try to make it now!! We miss Chiang Mai!
This came out tasting better than my favorite restaurant! Thank you so much!!!!
Wow. This is awesome.
Awsome recipe! I’ve tried and it came out perfect 👌
Very nice Marion. Definitely going to make this. It’s winter here in NZ, so a bowl of this nice warming soup will be lovely. Still waiting for your version of beef rendang and may be Malaysian curry? Love all your recipes. Thanks.
I have made this recipe of yours SO many times! It is that delicious. I have to try really hard not to eat the entire pot while it is simmering.
Wow love this recipe it looks very nice thanks Marion.
I love Thai food so much.
I love watching your videos you are so calm and humble. Your glasses really do take away from your beauty ❤️
I'm going to make this as soon as finals are over! I WILL be using drumsticks though, tbh fishing en entire drumstick out of the noodles and soup is my fav part of kao soi! Thanks for the great video, I always wondered what those greens were on the side and now I know to look for pickled mustard greens!!
Just saw Khao Soi soup on another channel, reseraunt review. It looked so delicious. I though, bet Marion makes this. And tah dah! You do. I can't wait to try it.
I was wondering, isn't this the same recipe many people use for laksa too? As I make laksa a lot and I use the exact same recipe. It is delicious though, no doubt.
This is my favorite dish in the whole world!!!
What would be your recommendation to make this dish vegetarian, tempeh?
How spicy is it? Asking cause my fam doesn't like spicy, but I love it!!
Typically, it's spicy for foreigners because of how they aren't used to spiciness(chilis). So no one really knows how exactly spicy it is for anyone. So, if you have a tongue that's used to chili then you'll need a bit more chili to get the same level of spice normal tongues tastes. Basically, if you don't try, you won't know. Good luck. ;)
I tried it.. and it’s really awesome.. Thanks u
Looks brill.. I have been dreaming a chaing mai khao Soi since ive got back from there but in England there is nothing like it. I'm gna try ur recipe.. as it looks the bomb. I can taste it thru the video hahha. Much love and thank u
I made this fantastic soup tonight for dinner. It was wonderful. The family really enjoyed it. I was a bit concerned about the amount of broth it made, but, there are no complaints, I will get to have leftovers. 😀Everyone loved the crispy noodles. The soup was great with a touch of sambal oleck chili paste for some added heat.
Omg feel like you read my mind! I wanted a khao soi recipe
Love ❤️ this Recipe ❤️ Marion 😊
I really like your recipes !!!
