For some reason, ever since we shot the footage for this weeks show... I can't get the song, "East Bound and Down" by Jerry Reed, off my mind! ( Smokey and the Bandit ) .................... Anyway! Can't wait to see this giant of the rails moving down the track! What a moment in history!! I'm East Bound... Just watch that Big Boy run!!!
For us, railfan people from Europe, you gave a great opportunity to see how rural America in Utah and Wyoming looks like. Thanks and happy photo chasing next month.
Lived many years in Rock Springs, saw and rode UP steamers more then once. Wish I was there for this event. Hopefully my kids and grandkids will take advantage of this moment in rail history!
Thank You soooo much for producing this video. That was a really, really wonderful act of kindness for all of us who plan an excursion to take pictures and videos of 4014. This makes it possible for anyone to pick out a place way ahead of time to get that one or two special picture we all cherish. I really enjoy all of your videos and am looking forward to your next one on Desert Rat. Thank You again.
19:30 nice catch of a 13 car train pulled by two SD70Ms! I saw a 26-car train in eatsern colorado pulled by three SD70Ms in March 2019! Thanks for making this railfanning guide video! Me and my parents would go out driving along the tracks the day or two before 844 was scheduled to pass through there between Kansas City and Lawrence!
Just noticed that when they were moving the Big Boy they moved it with diesels 4014 and 4884. All the wonderful details were tended to--just wonderful. Can't wait to see your footage of the big event!
Dale and Karyn I have followed your incredible channel (as a subscriber, of course,) for quite a few years and you never cease to amaze me with your ability to make all your videos both highly entertaining and, need I say, most educational. You certainly set the bar for screwing around with a wide variety of topics. Looking forward to the BIG BOY on parade .
Hey, glad to see you guys getting geared up with some photography places! IRL has not allowed me to go, but I still look forward to whatever vids you guys can make out of the event! Sorry to hear you won't be able to ride, but any chance to shoot the 4014 in action would be more priceless (at least to me) than riding the train it would pull doubleheaded with the 844. Good luck getting at getting good shots, and hope the both of you have a great time!
Osage Orange it’s going to be sooooo amazing. I’ll feel so much better after getting the first shot. I always worry about things going wrong. But once I have one shot I can relax. A bit. A very little bit. Sort of.
I have to say if you can't get to Echo Canyon on the day, the best place to see 844 come up the "grade" will be on Roy Smith's model railway. I suspect it will be standing room only in his train room. Cheers, Chris Perry.
A very informative video, I'm a railway fan in the UK and have been following the story of 4014 as have many other steam fans over here. It's going to be a spectacular event to see 4014 running and I wish could be there to see it but will rely on good folks like you to see footage of this awesome machine in action. I'm so jealous of you being able to see it lol.
Hi from Reading England! Someone is building a Big Boy in 7 1/4 inch gauge and this looks impressive! He has of course to double up on most things he makes for her! Just do not drop any bits on your feet! Lovely shots of landscape! Love David and Lily.
Hi. Those turn up here in the states a lot. Have you seen our show on Colorado rail road museum?? They have the whole UP steam program in 7 1/2 inch scale. A challenger, 844 and a big boy!
Thank You! I'm flying from Southern California to film/chase UP 4014 on the last leg Wed 5/8 from Evanston, WY to Ogden, UT and UP 4014/844 on Sun 5/12 from Ogden, Ut, to Evanston, WY and I've been pouring over Maps, Aerial Photos, etc. to scout the route and then I found your awesome video with everything I need to know! Great Job!
Really looking forward to seeing your footage of the big event! I hope they bring big boy east some day so I can see it in person. If not, well I guess I'll just have to make a special trip.
Or both! I bet they come east at some point. But who needs an excuse to take a road trip? Karyn: “what should we do today?” Me: “I don’t know, how about getting in the car and heading west?” Or east? Or north? Or something....”
I am beyond SPEECHLESS. Never been to the US but arriving in DC on Saturday 5th May, but of course have an intinerary all mapped out and set in concrete. That close but wont get to see BB living and breathing,so hope to see some amazing video it. I cant help feeling that to stand by the track and watch her pass by would be amazing. Remember the Carol King song??? I feel the earth move under by feet.
Move it does!! I took a friend to see 3985 come by when it was running. Came by at about 55 mph (90 K) and the ground really moved. 1,000,000 pounds. The Big Boy is 1,250,000 pounds. (567,000 kilo). That should shake rattle and roll.
Timely and well presented. Will be a crazy time. I chased 4449 when it came south from Portland to Sacramento and the east to Sparks on its way to join the Freedom train. I had the advantage of traveling the roads before and knowing some great locations. It was exciting to chase it but got a bit crazy. I was driving my MG and I added to the crazy a couple of times. This (Big Boy and 844) will be much busier because if the history and hype. Be safe.
I also have been pondering where the best steam train viewing might be. My goal in retired life is to become as good at "screwing around" as you two, but without the video posting since I don't possess those skills - thanks for your efforts!
Screwing around comes naturally to humans. Only when fuddy duddy people who don’t screw around well start setting rules do people forget how and why they screw around. Like a cell phone a 4 year old can show you how.
Jason from Bountiful checking in. When Rail Fanning the canyon(Weber), I usually go to the Tunnels/Tressels East of Morgan. Love that spot, you described it well. I'm gonna go there for 844 & 4014. Unless my brother comes up with something better. We may even use the shell and some sleeping bags and sleep in the back of the truck... I'm chomping at the bit for these weeks to hurry by. Great spot locations by the way. See y'all soon.
SUPER GOOD VIDEO VERY INTERESTING and INFORMATIVE THANK you BOTH AGAIN FOR SHARING THIS with your SUBSCRIBERS always A TREAT.JIM KAMMERER OF PHILADELPHIA PA ENJOY YOUR SCREWING AROUND TIME. 📸📸📸📸🚂🚂🚂🚂😁👍😷😷😷😷
As a UK steam enthusiast I’m amazed one of these magnificent machines wasn’t kept by U.P like 844 but hey ho. Glad to see one back in steam like the challenger. A vast contrast to Gresleys A4s ‘streaks’ over here, like the A4s this will definitely pull the crowds. Cheers, Ross.
They did keep one. But gave it up years later when the challenger was in much better shape and was a better fit for their passenger train program. Then 6 years ago when challenger was in very bad shape they went looking for a good Big Boy. This was one of 2 that were mostly perfect. In spite of that it’s gotten a 100% restoration. All moving parts replaced. Any flaw repaired. Now just as it was in 1941. Perhaps a bit better!!
Toy Man Television I never knew that, what happened to the challenger? Is that now being restored? wow, I can’t wait for your footage of it in steam I bet it will be a fantastic sight :)
Great video! I am familiar with Weber canyon as that is how I like to travel from Vernal to Ogden via Hwy. 40 to I-80 on to I-84. Looking forward to all of your videos related to the Golden Spike anniversary and the old steam locomotives! One way or another I'm making a trip either to Ogden or to Rock Springs on May 12 to see the majestic trains. This will be my ultimate birthday present of all time!
Thanks for the observation tips, good bit of observation points in your profile. I am going to drive the Old Lincoln Highway today just to scope it out. Passed your channel along to a couple RR buddies. Hope they enjoy your episode(s). I sure do.
You had mentioned line will be closed for track repair. I wanted to see Echo Canyon Road and photograph rail condition. All rails show wavy crack across the rail face. Inside rail tops look like they have been pulled down hill. That steel takes a beating! The Canyon is beautiful.
Stephen Lambrecht amazing right? Just below there they are replacing ties. Near Morgan. Also at the summit at wahsach. Looks like they are putting in cement ties. Ed said major work in that area. Line is on and off for as much as 48 hours at a time.
What a good scouting expedition, Dale and Karyn! It looks like you'll have your work cut out for you to secure the best ways and places to capture the Big Boy when it runs up the canyon in the double-header excursion. Nobody can say that you haven't done your homework. I give you an "A" for your efforts. Happy Easter! -from Tom Pilling
Hi Tom. This is so much easier in N scale! This driving all over is hard! Almost bought Karyn an N scale 4014. Just to get her building a layout for it. Still might!!
As an FCC licensed drone pilot I have to take exception with the suggestion that anyone fly a drone from that rest area down to devils gate bridge. It is against FAA regulations to fly outside your VLS (visual line of sight) and there are very good reasons for that. First your view from the onboard camera is limited and you could potentially clip some obstruction from the side, but even more worry some is that if a bunch of people are flying their drones in that same area the chance of a mid-air collision is huge. I'm not risking the loss of my aircraft and possibly ending the chase due to something like that.
We go out with a guy who flys out of sight all the time. Didn’t know about the regulations on that. In this case I think you would still be able to see it but it would be some distance away.
Planning on watching it roll by on the 12th, found a location that has a safe area to park. Thinking of spending the night at Castle Rock or Wasatch Summit the car to play it safe and avoid the traffic. Thanks for the guide on places to sit and watch. Keep up the great screwing around.
Storms and high water in Weber Canyon is the reason No 119 was used for the ceremony because the passenger loco had trouble getting through the canyon. The 119 was a freight loco. The Jupiter was a substitute for the CP loco bringing the CP people from Sacramento, CA for the festivities was damaged by a log laying beside the track. So both locos were replacements for the ones originally picked for the trains to meet.
Yup! Super interesting history. Odd that with all the writing for books and newspapers no one thought to describe the colors. With black and white photos you would think one person would describe the colors. Nope. They still are not sure if Jupiter was blue. Mostly sure but only because of an article when the locomotive was built. I’ll bet if they had used the planned locomotives there would have been better display and even photos. There never was a photo of the fireman’s side of 119. (I think the fireman).
@@ToyManTelevision Your March 3, 2019 "The Golden Spike--The Race to Promontory Summit" has the close-up photo of the ceremony with the 119 on the right making that the fireman's side. I think there is another photo taken further back with the locos apart that shows both locos including the fireman's side and tender. In the same show you showed a photo of the 119 on the temporary trestle and the engineer's side. There was a lot of research done to try to get the colors correct for the replicas. I have two HO sets of these locos- one by PFM and the other by Balboa, also the kits of the model train cars of both trains and the decals for the models. The colors were listed with the models and how they determined the colors. The PFM models were released in time for the 100 th anniversary in 1969. There were only 1869 train car kits produced as a limited run because of the year.
All you need to pay for is the gas for your car, food and water if you want chase the locomotives that badly, and just park at a Walmart, buy the food and water there and sleep in your car.
Aired down and disconnected tricky. Check the schedule but they stop at many locations to oil around. 10 minutes each. One at Echo. Big boy is slow. Thankfully. 844 normally runs at speed limit of 79 mph. But I’ll bet BB runs at more like 55 to 60. I have tried getting ahead of 844 and have the speeding tickets to prove it. It all depends on crowds. But narrow slow roads will shut you down for the rest of the day. So just plan accordingly
Boring? Not at all! I admire you all for attempting this herculean task. The driving, doubling back, parking, driving again and all the setup and takedowns don't bother me. The real headache will be all the other people converging on those pristine spots you have graciously found and marked. I think I speak for all of us who watch your channel when I say thank you and do be careful because you can replace everything but nothing equals your life. Just be safe. Remember, "let it go, Indy." you know Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade when they just found the Holy Grail and were about to lose it in an earthquake. Indy is stretching to grab it. Elsa has already fallen and Indy is about to do likewise when his dad utters the afore mention line. I think he was implying sometimes it isn't worth endangering your life.
Yup! It’s almost a epidemic. The photo-selfie epidemic. Another visitor fell 2000 feet at Zion last week. A guy fell into the Grand Canyon a month ago. Trying to get a shot right on the edge. A day later same thing only a selfie. Anyway we are old (ish) and really calm. Set up and get a shot. When everyone clears out head out to see what else you can get. Slowly. Carefully. And always well back from any tracks. Shots are better and safer. Anyway exiting to see this!
Just got an email from the official UP steam club. The 844 tour this weekend has been cancelled and it will instead double-head with the 4014 from Cheyenne to Ogden now. So you can see both of them together in both directions now.
Some of those places you scouted out would be great even without the train. I know, bite my tongue. I pray you get some great footage. (But, I guess we no longer use film) Sounds like you have things well in hand for at Out of the blue while watching the Bride asked me if I want to go. I can only hope it will come here for a celebration at our Railroad museum. I don't think Old Town Sacramento is but six miles from us. Greg and Jeanne.
Hope it comes your way. We will in August for the narrow gauge convention. And generally screwing around. Looking forward to that!! I thought of you last night. A news story about a guy who boards Orchids orchids for people on vacation or who need help with a sick flower. Great story! He said there are many people who do that for a living. Who knew? 2 to 4 bucks per flower per day.
Hi Dale and Karyn: Wonderful coverage of the Union Pacific main line between Ogden and Evanston. Thanks for the detail and key locations for train watching. We use this video as our guide when we visit Ogden in a less busy time. Have you done a video on the Union Pacific North Platte yards? Thanks again!! - Dean from Minnesota
Hi! Nope. I did cover Bar Stool California. Drone over the yards for about 20 minutes before the railroad cops found us. Fortunately they like the channel. Fun show! Port of Los Angeles part 2.
I sincerely wish the northeast Long Island RR would complete an example of a running steam loco. One ten wheeler G5s #39 was begun decades ago but never was completed. It spent a lot of time gathering bird droppings in local parks and now rotting at a museum. It was built by PRR and differs slightly from the PRR version.
It’s a huge undertaking. When we see what UP has done here.... the 3 million that they spent was the easy part. 12 guys working 6 days a week at least 12 hours a day for 2 years. But the restoration is the best rebuild of an American steam locomotive to date. It’s a new locomotive. The huge castings are original as is the basic boiler. But much of the firebox is replaced. As are about a third of the stay bolts. All of the moving parts large to small rebuilt or replaced.
Yes the dome seats were $5000 each. I think there are only 24 seats in the dome car. They sold out in just over 30 minutes of going on line. The $3000 coach seats were there for a few days. I have not checked lately to see if any are left. I came that close to buying two tickets for me and my wife.
Well, I hope you get some good shots. That whole area is going to be wall to wall people and I for one will wait to see if anybody got any good video and pictures.
Yup. On May 4th. The only footage I’ve ever gotten there was by riding the train and doing run buys. Don’t know the area. But I hear there are dirt roads.
@@ToyManTelevision I've heard it's private property now. They did let people in when the Big Boy was being returned to Cheyenne though, so maybe they will let people in again for this.
Toy Man Television Hi 😂 no lol... I’m on the wrong side of the Pacific..., as in New Zealand🇳🇿....😂👍 Me old Dad drove steam and GM & GE Diesel here.... so I know of the Bigboys at age 1 month😂
I get so sick of internet bs. Some people. Trolling for fun. It’s been running now for 10 days! I don’t think it’s been out of the shop yet. But not because it can’t. They just have a lot to do yet.
@@ToyManTelevision me too Toyman and I will not listen to Scott and his garbage. We know Ed we met him all they do is criticize him. I can't wait until Big Boy is fired up my friends in Evenston said they will send me video when it comes down because the tracks are next to their house.
@@ToyManTelevision that's true if they're confident enough putting a fire in the locomotive's firebox it's already in operating condition, these guy are professionals, they did this sort of restoration work with 3985, so I'm sure they know what they're doing.
Aaron Peavler/Geomodelrailroader Railroad Photography hi. If you follow Ed you will find a few very loud people out there who tell some really outrageous lies and insults about him. Long story. Bull. Resentment over him getting the job when others wanted it. But this crap goes on and on. The UP program has never been better. And that just pisses them off even more.
Roy Smith is a model Railroader in Panama who models the Union Pacific Evanston Subdivision. He has a model of Echo Canyon on his layout. You should check out his UA-cam channel.
@@ToyManTelevision Thanks, Dale. I love your videos. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the Big Boy and 844 on your channel. Of course, I especially appreciate those videos filmed in the area I'm modeling. Panama's a long, long way to come, but it would be wonderful to actually meet you in person someday. Blessings. ...Roy
N-Scale Union Pacific Evanston Subdivision hi again. You will like the show a week from Sunday. Back to the Evanston roundhouse to see the progress. Their plan was to have it finished for the Big Boy. But.. tomorrow is Ogden Union Station. They too planned to have fresh paint on all the locomotives. Well.... they are off to a very very late start and if the 844 were still arriving Monday they would be in a world of hurt. Turbine 26 is still in a tent. They planned to letter it today. And paint the b unit. And still be ready for Monday? Anyway the postponement of the 844 saves their but. Rumor has it that’s the reason for the delay. To let them clear out their paint cans! Anyway more to your interest the roundhouse is looking great and some hope to be ready. No way! The floor still needs to be poured and about 8 doors still off. But who knows...
@@ToyManTelevision I want you to know how much I appreciate your videos and the gracious way you share your adventures with the rest of us. You are always willing to share your experience and knowledge. In short, what you do is great fun for the rest of the UA-cam community. I'm looking forward to your upcoming Evanston roundhouse video. ...Roy
+ToyMan *Wahsatch, UT, USA, is one of the few high-altitude spots on the Union Pacific Council Bluffs, IA - Oakland, CA, main line* level enough for rewatering troughs consistent with those the New York Central (NS) deployed on the Chicago-Manhattan main line. With the right design of tender, all three American steamers could potentially top off their water on the roll; obviously the 4-8+8-4 Single Expansion Articulated Class BSA-1 would need it worst, going through double the water of the 4-8-4 Class FEF-3 on the climb from either Ogden, UT, or Cheyenne, WY.
One other location. The Westbound truck scalehouse / port of entry. I do no remember any signs saying no cars(it's been several years since I was up there). From memory it is right next to the tracks and has unimpeded views. Also further West the westbound test area. Again I'm doing this from memory.
It’s only open to cars in front. I guess you can park and walk back but the area just behind the garage is now fenced. So you would need to walk about a quarter mile I think. So we skipped it. If there were light crowds and a person could move fast (not us!) you could grab this and perhaps still get the rest area. We are just heading for the rest area with lots of 🐿 food.
Hello ToyMan. Do you by chance have any inside info on any changes in the status of the Challenger? We all know what the initial plans were, but since it dissappeared from the UP steam page lots of folks are wondering whats up/
Well....... yes. Not something I talk about much. First no one knows the future so... but 3985 is in sad shape. I don’t think ANYONE’s fault. But it was run hard and put away wet as the horse people say. Years ago when a group of employees wanted to get it running they picked it because it was in really great shape. So they didn’t do much to it. Long story short it needs a new firebox. But so did 844 so that’s huge but doable. But when I was there I grabbed a photo of leaking between two of the boiler sections. At the bottom. Probably not repairable. So two sections need to be replaced and that’s huge as well. So about 5 million to restore. And even if they hit it with the same intensity as 4014 about 3 years. So more like 5 or six full time. No matter. They chose 4014 (I think) because it’s so much better than 3985. So (my opinion) 4014 is a replacement for 3985. And now ( no one seems to have noticed) 3985 has been dropped from the roster and the steam program logo. So they may restore it some day but don’t hold your breath. Again let me stress this is just my opinion nothing more. UP and the guys say nothing on the subject. The talk is they will now start on 3985 and that’s a possibly. But...
There was negotiating over that. I don’t think it was put together. Millions in budget to pull it off. And I think it failed. But all top secret. If a deal is in place the studio would not want it known or another studio may launch a counter project. They do that.
I am no film expert, but to do this event justice, to film this event in real time as a high quality production one would expect it to be quite expensive. If every thing is hush hush as you say, that might mean a deal is brokered and the project is green lighted. One can only hope !
Great tips! Question, can I borrow some of your Big Boy footage from it's return trip to Cheyenne from California for a music video I'm creating celebrating it's return to steam? I promise to give credit. Also happy Easter!
@@ToyManTelevision Well technically it's the footage from 6 years ago when the big boy was being towed back to Cheyenne. We'll have to discuss this more at a later point.
this information is invaluable. Many good ideas. Although, I feel I should caution all: Wyoming and Utah highway patrol have made it clear that they plan to cite all those who pace or photograph from the interstate as much as possible. How much is a bluff and how much of a plan they are putting into place remains to be seen. I'd hate to see my fellow fans with tickets, accidents, or any other set backs or "derailments" on such a momentous occasion.
When I follow the line east from Echo I came to a spot where the main lines cross each other inside tunnels but was told you can't get to the place cause it private property and no roads nearby perhaps a drone would work to photograph that area with the tunnels and no lines crisscrossing each other
Trains and model trains productions Fear not! That was just for these initial rides. I suppose the going rate will be somewhere around $100 from this point on
Anthony Shepard I’ll bet it does! No schedules yet. First this great event. Then regain their wits and plan for the future. UP will want to show this machine off! This amazing restoration.
I hope you didn't make it too easy for sunday drivers to clog the route. I will be relying on your camera skills and counting the minutes for your video. I will be donating to help with your expenses and I hope others do also. Thank you for helping us that can't make it enjoy this EPIC event. Edit....Do you have a pateron page or a way to accept donations?
Yup! It’s done! Has not been on the main line yet as far as we know. I’m sure they are still adjusting things. Ed explained to me how they set the valve timing. Oddly really simple. He built a special tool. Now takes about 15 minutes per valve. (4). But so many little things like that. May the forth! (Be with you)
Toy Man Television ok thank you, I saw curious because it sounded familiar. But also it was A peaceful song for scenic views. And if it was available I was going to add it to a playlist that I listen to when I go bike riding.

I love your vids guys! You guys always make my day!
Thanks 🙏. We love making the shows. Glad you like them too!
Be safe.
Leaving on Star Wars Day. May the Fourth (be with you).
Great information and video!! Thank you!!
You are welcome!
Good plan. They have some portable potty 🚽 out at a few places too. One at tagert. For fishermen but any pot will do
Excellent video! Subscribed immediately. I'm headed up next week. First time Utah, this video will help me greatly!
Hope so! Trains magazine says they expect 3 million people. 300,000 in Ogden. Hope not. But we will soon know
Great info. Thanks.
Hi wolf man. Should be a grand few days chasing the train.
I hope we see stack action up on the Wasatch Grade. It would be awesome to see two steam engines working hard.
Will happen!!! I hope 4014 is in the head but standard practice is the lighter locomotive first.
Great video, I wish I could see the Big Boy. Can’t wait to see your video on the Big Boy and the 844. Again, great video.
Well done video enjoyed every minute thank you
Thanks for watching! More coming
The event of the decade. Really excited
More like the event of the century. So exciting!
Great video/ commentary
When was the footage taken?
1986 to 1997.

What a great trip to take really enjoyed watching them.
So how did you enjoy Oregon? And will you coming back again for a visit?
Thanks for the observation tips, good bit of observation points in your profile. I am going to drive the Old Lincoln Highway today just to scope it out.
Passed your channel along to a couple RR buddies. Hope they enjoy your episode(s). I sure do.
Thanks! That’s such a great place but so hard with crowds. We will see what we can get!
Line is on and off for as much as 48 hours at a time.
wow wished I could be there to see the big boy! y'all have a great weekend and I'll watch y'all next time, keep screwing be safe
Hi gunny. Yup we are busy with this! What an event!
Thanks for the ideas for spots! Can wat to go see these locos. Thanks!
It’s going to be amazing
Smart. We are thinking of two places. We will pick one. The down hill run will give an idea of the crowd size. But the 12th will be bigger.
Still amazing that they just blew it's whistle for the first time in 60 years!
Just backed it out of the shop under its own power. Bet it’s on the main line tomorrow. Later today.
@@ToyManTelevision that's awesome! Great to hear that they be done this!
I wish I could chase the locomotives! I can hear the stack talk now! Unfortunately I can't afford it.
We will show it to you.
All you need to pay for is the gas for your car, food and water if you want chase the locomotives that badly, and just park at a Walmart, buy the food and water there and sleep in your car.

Stay warm! It’s finally warming up here. Raining. Thunder. Wind. But not snowing. I just hope it’s good for the Big Boy.
I just love 4014 can't wait to hear it

Thank you for doing this. 👍
Hopefully I'll get to chase this a bit.

@@ToyManTelevision
How easy/hard is it to catch up with the train , if I stop to do a run by footage ?
Check sundays show. Wow! Big change. Didn’t see it right off so thanks!!!
Well done! I hope that you will post a video of 4014 when it runs.
Most definitely
Hope you guys have a great time filming, ill only be there for the Christening Ceremony
Like to see that but can’t make it out.
Yes the dome seats were $5000 each. I think there are only 24 seats in the dome car. They sold out in just over 30 minutes of going on line. The $3000 coach seats were there for a few days. I have not checked lately to see if any are left. I came that close to buying two tickets for me and my wife.
Just looked this morning. Still seats. But going fast.
I hope i get to see the big boy running
I’m sure they will be running it as much as possible later this year and mostly next year.
from the info i found they will be going double both ways and not as soon as previously planed .
Yup. 844 whistle stop cancelled. Not sure why but I have heard several reasons. One thing Ogden is just not ready for guests. Sunday’s show.
Toy Man Television also they want to finish up 4014 in time for the show
It will be cool to see big boy haulin freat
Well, I hope you get some good shots. That whole area is going to be wall to wall people and I for one will wait to see if anybody got any good video and pictures.
Most people we have talked to are camping near the tracks to get a great shot.
Will 4014 be going up Sherman Hill? I would love to see that side by side an old video old the Big Boys climbing the hill on their freight runs!
Yup. On May 4th. The only footage I’ve ever gotten there was by riding the train and doing run buys. Don’t know the area. But I hear there are dirt roads.
Thanks!
@@ToyManTelevision I've heard it's private property now. They did let people in when the Big Boy was being returned to Cheyenne though, so maybe they will let people in again for this.
I won't be able to se 4014 in May, but I am hoping to see it some time this summer if it is possible.
It should be out there. No schedule as yet.

but on the steam club page i getting tired on the naysayers that the 4014 won't be ready
As long as it is possible to operate one, it is immaterial on the when...
Long story. Bull.
@@ToyManTelevision I want you to know how much I appreciate your videos and the gracious way you share your adventures with the rest of us. man I wish I could be there but have to work😥, good luck with finding a place to see the big boy.
But...
@@ToyManTelevision Thanks Toy Man!!!
magnificent locomotives the Best thing UP even done Steam up 5511
That would be a thing to see.
Great news
Mixed crowd so far. Lots of people in some places few in many. I think it’s going to get a bit nuts at Ogden
PS everyone, please be safe and have fun.
This will be a steam run of historic importance. Will there be an IMAX crew to document this ? Sure hope so.
I'll watch the videos thanks.
Great tips! Question, can I borrow some of your Big Boy footage from it's return trip to Cheyenne from California for a music video I'm creating celebrating it's return to steam? I promise to give credit. Also happy Easter!
Probably. Don’t see why not. Let’s see what we get. Trying to get our friends with drones to get some footage too.
@@ToyManTelevision Well technically it's the footage from 6 years ago when the big boy was being towed back to Cheyenne. We'll have to discuss this more at a later point.
@@ToyManTelevision I'll even get you a good shot of the doubleheader coming out the tunnel over by Morgan. I know you missed one from the video.
this information is invaluable.
Any idea when the 844 will leave Cheyenne, I'd like too see that. Since I do live here.
Yup. April 27 8:00 AM. Two day trip. Arrives Ogden the 28th at 4:30. Planning to film in Echo Canyon.
Great commentary, editing, and camerawork! By the way, what song did you use at 6:05?
It’s by Richard Band his Americana pieces. But really a rip of Aaron Copland music. Almost the same but I have rights to Richard Band.
The Grade for the Wasatch Range is said to be 1.14%
When I follow the line east from Echo I came to a spot where the main lines cross each other inside tunnels but was told you can't get to the place cause it private property and no roads nearby perhaps a drone would work to photograph that area with the tunnels and no lines crisscrossing each other
Yup. They cross just outside a double tunnel just below Washach. No way it. But I think a drone can get there from the freeway
3000 to 5000 well there goes my dream of going on one of the rides
Trains and model trains productions Fear not! That was just for these initial rides. I suppose the going rate will be somewhere around $100 from this point on

They fired it two weeks ago this Wednesday. Not sure if it’s been moved but I assume so. Not outside yet as far as I know.
@@ToyManTelevision ok Thanks. Can you do updates on 4014 on your videos so we know when it is finally done being restored
Yup! It’s done! Has not been on the main line yet as far as we know. I’m sure they are still adjusting things. Ed explained to me how they set the valve timing. Oddly really simple. He built a special tool. Now takes about 15 minutes per valve. (4). But so many little things like that. May the forth! (Be with you)
