Interesting thing about Brady’s stats in his last NE season, that was the first time he got near market rate in his salary. He’d been taking discounts previously so NE could sign talent and he finally had enough when he was surrounded by trash. Basically BB had been operating with a salary cap advantage until that season, Brady leaving exposed BB’s GM deficiencies.

I think BB's downfall is his arrogance. I firmly believe that HE believes he can win with ANYONE, and just coach'em up. The players don't matter.
That said, I do see some talent on the Pats right now -
The D is good. Hard to judge them when the opposing D is scoring 1+ TDs per game, and/or the Pats' O is either not staying on the field, or giving the opponent very good field position.
Offensively, the Pat's have receivers Bourne (finally coming into his own) and Parker, TE's Henry and Gisicki, RB's Stevenson and Elliott. Even Mac might be better than he's showing cuz he's always running for his life back there. They need an O-line.
So... when a team has (some) talent and can't put it together, the cause is always the coaching.

    • @ChefDeath
      @ChefDeath 9 місяців тому +3

I don't see it that way considering A) TB12 willingly took cuts to build a team around him & B) He didn't complain until his stats started to slowly lower year to year, starting from the loss SB LII to PHI all the way to the pick 6 in Tennessee before he scurried to TB. Secondly, Belicheck is a defensive coach. TB12 has an ability that few QBs have: precise in game, second to second, ability to make smart decisions with a football. Mac just doesn't have that. We've seen it for 22 weeks now, that stupid doe eyed look every time he's in trouble. The ballerina slide because he doesn't want to take a hit. Lobbing the ball instead of throwing it. Belicheck may be old and out dated, but as a man who has played the sport under a coach, it's mad disrespectful to lay the blame on Belicheck's feet when there's a whole brigade of coaches underneath him. We're seeing a team at a cross roads in coaching, identity, and play style. It'll be a good four to five years before the Pats become relevant in the AFC East, let alone the playoff picture.

@@kevinbedard27 Have you been watching the same football that I have? NY, a few weeks ago, leads Bourne on a 43 yrd (what should have been) TD throw only to throw it out of bounds. Same play in Dallas, twice, same results. Throws the cardinal sin of a pass once, gets away with it. Twice: pick 6. Overthrowing Gisecki 7/9 attempts in 2 games. Overthrows Parker2/4 att in four games. Overthrows Schuster 3/9 in three games. Like come on, you gon tell me that Belicheck, a defensive mastermind not a QB coach, has to teach the Alabama Mac (Who played with Tua and Hurts) how to throw a ball? Come on. The dude is a bust, plain and simple. I'll give you this, we do need a new O-line. for sure

@@ChefDeath I'm not saying Mac's the guy. I'm just saying the O-line is the bigger problem, and we can't fully evaluate Mac until he has decent time in the pocket to make his reads and his throws. Trying to be accurate while getting hit is really hard.

Had 2001 not happened, there may never have been a Pats dynasty, nor a legendary Tom Brady. Maybe there would be, but I’m not at all sure. Brady was the chosen one. He went through the qb gauntlet. From fighting to start in high school and fighting his way up Michigan from the 7th man. Even after getting to the pinnacle and starts he even has to share games with another qb.. then wins out in the very end beats I think Bama in the orange bowl or Fiesta idr. Then gets drafted 199. Tje disrespect continues. He still fights on and then. Bledsoe goes down. And the tuck rule and getting I to field goal range time and time again. But that kicker was always his cherry on top. Bill had destiny on his side for so long. Now destiny is in Cincinnati. Kansas city. Fucking Detroit. Not in New England anymore. Unless we go to war again. Then somehow the pats will be great again. And I didn't even get to the 30 other legends that played for Bill. Where are they on these teams for Bill now? I don't see them.

True. Here's a perspective from a guy (not in New England) who has been a Pats fan for 25 years..
With no prevailing loyalties to the city, team fandom ends up being more about the players, and so for me it was Bledsoe, Ty Law and Co. that drew me in, and Brady and Co. that solidified it for me as a die hard.
So now that there is a husk of a team with precious few names that have any appeal..its hard to stay as invested in the organization, and I find myself cheering for the Bills and Vikings of the world who havent won. Or the Niners bc look at what theyve built..
I still cheer for the Pats, just not like back in the day.
If we want to say I jumped on a bandwagon for 25 years..All I would ask is, "Is there a pension? Gold watch?"

Again, I’ve only been alive from when the Patriots were good. But my family has been Pats fans since the 70’s when they were mid to below average. Then when they were the worst team in football during the early 90’s, my family still rooted for them. He let Meyers go when they could have kept him. Mac Jones is getting no help. The team destroyed his confidence and wrecked his development in the second year. Belcher is hungry for power so he will not step down. Fire Belichek and trade Jones to a place he can succeed!

I’m a patriots fan and what I think they should do is try to trade for some mid tier offensive linemen so Mac has more time to make reads even if it’s just a little, and maybe scheme JuJu to be a decoy if they believe he’s not trying, or try to motivate him in some way seeing how he went into the season being expected to be the top receiver by many. Also with that being said although most of the receivers are mid tier some can be used very effectively if used properly, in the past we’ve seen both DeVante Parker and Mike Gesicki have success in Miami, Kendrick Bourne made it to a Super Bowl with the 49ers and has only gotten better since then, and Tyquan Thornton the speedster who looked pretty good in preseason started to practice again and will be playing again soon to help this currently damaged reviving core. Best case scenario they’re gonna have a winning season 9-8 if they really want to go for it, worst case they have the top pick in the draft next year which also isn’t a bad idea given the draft class next year is pretty stacked. That’s all and thanks for the content Mike!

This is a fantastic summary of the New England Patriots, recent travails. So well-informed, you would think that you cover the team full-time. Kudos. I could not agree with you more. If the Patriots let Bill go, they are almost certain to drop to the bottom of the league for, who knows how many years? On the other hand if we let Bill design the roster next year, based on recent history, it’s likely to be another bust. How about Tyquan Thornton? Why the reach for Cole Strange? You get the message. The best solution would be to bring in a GM and have Bill remain as head coach. However, Bill is such an immature baby, even if he were to agree with this arrangement he would likely do everything he could to sabotage the relationship. No way to win here.

Tom Brady on some of the struggles in New England:
"I think the results are different from what they've been, but I know that he's still got the same work ethic, he's got the same coaching style. I think the thing that I think as I watch not only the Patriots, but a lot of other things, football's a hard sport. You know, it was very different when I was in there because I could control a lot of the outcome. When I'm sitting here watching from afar I realize, God, there's a lot of variables, there's a lot of things that need to go right in order to have team success. And I was a part of a lot of those teams and I didn't take any of those things for granted. I needed a great defense. I needed a great kicker. Obviously I needed a great coach. I needed great receivers and a great o-line. If I was gonna be successful as a player, I needed all those things. And I was fortunate to have a lot of those things over a long period of time. So, the teams that lose, they're putting a lot into it. The teams that win, they're putting a lot into it. It's a relentless sport and nothing is given to you. It's all hard. Losing is hard, winning is hard. To be in it year in and year out is hard. To lose and have a horrible season is very hard."
“I think that he's(Belichick) got a very consistent approach that he's always taken and, you know, it's the right approach. It's try to prepare the players, give 'em the best opportunity to succeed You know, you get out there on the field in the end, the coaches, once the play is called in the players gotta go do it. And it takes a great coaching staff to win. It takes great players to win. It takes great front office support to win. It's an organizational win. It's an organizational loss. To ascribe a win or loss to one player - and they did that for me a lot with winning and I always say, 'It's not about me, it's about us. And when you lose, as a leader, when you lose you take the blame and you give the credit when you win.

As a Saints fan, they barely talked about the Saints during the entire Super Bowl season of 2009. The Saints have a very strong defense and unlike Dallas, my team hasn’t given up 42 points to anyone.

But, they do want to improve drastically, they need superstar talent on offensive line and wide receivers.

No. Brock rarely makes bad decisions. Watch the actual tape. Mac Jones throws picks because he can't read the defense and throws it straight to the defense. Brock doesn't do this even close to the amount Mac Jones does. Mac has open recievers quite frequently but Jones will throw to double coverage and place the ball in the worst spot. Brock seems to thread those, place them perfectly to be caught.

The Saints defense isn't top 3 but it's number 4, 1 ahead of dem boys. Can't blindly trust what the media pops off with. They are strides better now with the Cowboys recent injuries. Before the loss to the Bucs with an injured QB, the Saints held 11 teams in a row to less then 20 points. Sir if you look up the definition of suffocation I think the Saints fit the bill.

The man thought Matt Patricia calling plays on offense was the right move for a second year Mac Jones and shit surrounding cast, give me a break. Patriots will continue to be shit until they move on from Bill and bring in somebody with a young offensive mind that fits in today's league. Bill still thinks you can win with 9 points and a good defense.

This looking for a diamond in the rough style is a gamble when you don't have great foundation to stand on. We have to spend money. We have done it for our defense only. We have not addressed any of our true issues during the last couple drafts such as offensive line and receivers. Cole strange was a highly questionable draft picks. Juju over Meyer as terrible and to take davante over D hop was outrageous. Anderson at the right tackle is slow and can't get back. So let's get a new GM and keep Bill as head coach

Belichick is now on probation for the first time since losing Tom Brady. You generally have to win 10 games to make the NFL playoffs. And what NFL coach in the NFL today, is as arrogant as Bill Belichick. Certainly not the late Don Shula? Don Shula was a down to earth coach. And liked by his players.

I'm not really sure about your take on Bill Belechick. He is not the ultimate reason why the Patroits won 6 superbowls. It was the consistency of Tom Brady, him taking pay cuts and elevating lesser talent so Bill could invest resources into the defense. He was an elite QB and an all time great.
Bills record before Brady sucked and he was close to getting fired. Now, after Brady, he sucks like he did before.

Too many either don't know about, or ignore, Brady's pay cuts allowing Belichick to spend on his defenses, which were a big reason why their defenses were mostly good.
